At Hutsadin Elephant Foundation we provide a better, safer, and more caring life for our elephant family that have been rescued from circuses, logging, mistreatment, injury and ill-health.
When you visit us, on entering the Foundation you will notice that there are no walls, fences or gates and the area is completely open and next to a busy main road. Chains are necessary at the Foundation for the safety of the elephants and visitors. Elephants are large and potentially dangerous animals and chains are an important and responsible aspect of managing elephants in a traditional way in South East Asia where there are no enclosures to safely contain the elephants.
We offer our visitors a range of activities that promote a close interaction with our elephants in a safe and enjoyable environment, for both elephants and visitors. Your support will help us to obtain secure land and bathing pools for our elephant family to enjoy.
We look forward to seeing you soon!

- David S6 contributionsMy children and wife greatly enjoyed this experience, I probably have a more critical view. We walked with an elephant, the guide and a mahout handling the animal on a looped path in the scrubland feeding the elephant sweet potatoes and taking pictures. Afterwards, we could spray water on the elephant. The elephants here were supposedly recued/retired from worse situations and it seems they treat the animals relatively well. The elephants get to walk around outside in the scrubland with the visitors. However, while waiting for tourists they are chained up on very short chains. The guide told us the animals could roam more at night, but if that is true it would also be on a longer chain of some sort, as there is otherwise no way to stop them leaving the property, and I am skeptical. The high price is supposed to also help raise funds to improve the property, though the goal which a poster said was already reached of 1 million Baht is not that much. With 400 visiting families like ours the revenue would be 1 million Baht - obviously only a fraction could go to investment, but still. There is also a religious dimension to the activity there which was not explained. I had hoped to meet an English speaking volunteer to learn more, which is why we went on Friday at 10am, which is when that was advertised. But instead there was a German speaking volunteer who we were told was not comfortable to speak in English...Thank you for your review. We are pleased your children and wife greatly enjoyed their visit to Hutsadin Elephant Foundation. When you entered Hutsadin Elephant Foundation you will have noticed that there are no walls, fences or gates enclosing the Foundation, and the area is completely open and next to a busy main road. This is why our elephants are chained. This traditional hands-on system utilising chains is normal in Southeast Asia where there are no enclosures to contain the elephants. Although our elephants are used to being around people, they are large and potentially dangerous animals. The chains are a necessary part of managing the animals for the safety of both elephants and visitors, and a method they are both familiar and comfortable with. Your comment about fund raising is a bit confusing. A large % of the fees paid by our visitors for their activities goes towards the care of our elephant family including food, water, Veterinary care, mahout (elephant carer) and staff costs. It does not all go towards funding property improvements. It is disappointing an English speaking volunteer wasn’t available to speak with you as I have no doubt they would have been able to address your concerns. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.Written 13 February 2025This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited January 2025Travelled with familyWritten 3 January 2025
- PacoBatangas Province, Philippines10 contributionsOur visit to the **Hutsadin Elephant Foundation** was an unforgettable experience. The foundation is doing incredible work in caring for and protecting elephants, and their dedication to these majestic animals is truly inspiring. It’s clear that the well-being of the elephants is their top priority. We spent a wonderful time interacting with the elephants, learning about their daily routines, diet, and behavior. Our guide was fantastic—knowledgeable, passionate, and engaging. He made the experience even more special by sharing interesting facts and stories about the elephants, helping us connect with them on a deeper level. The kids absolutely loved it! Seeing their excitement and joy while being close to the elephants was priceless. The foundation also does a great job educating visitors, especially children, about the importance of elephant conservation in a fun and interactive way. Overall, Hutsadin Elephant Foundation is a place I highly recommend. Their amazing work and the unique experience they offer make it a must-visit. Thank you for creating such beautiful memories for our family! 💚🐘Thank you for your review. We are delighted you had an unforgettable experience at Hutsadin Elephant Foundation. Educating our visitors about Asian elephants in captivity is one of our key objectives so we are all delighted that you recognised this. - Michael DNottingham, United Kingdom24 contributionsWe chose this place as we didn't want to ride or see elephants doing tricks and boy we wasn't disappointed at all. The staff are so friendly from the minute you walk through the entrance and I didn't find that we were pushed into selecting a particular tour at all and we were given all the time we needed to decide with the time duration clearly stated. We chose the walk and education tour which I would highly recommend, it was 1000 tbh per person but as we found out later just what the money went towards and how much it takes to keep an elephant which is staggering. We had such an amazing time there and would recommend a visit to this sanctuary.Thank you for your review. To hear you had such a fantastic time and Hutsadin Elephant Foundation didn’t disappoint is so gratifying for us all. We love to hear comments about our staff too and are pleased they were very friendly and allowed you time to choose your activity. Our Education and walking activity is very popular and we are delighted you highly recommend it and are encouraging others to visit Hutsadin Elephant Foundation. Thank you for your support.Written 24 February 2025This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited February 2025Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 February 2025
- bh90sBangkok, Thailand64 contributionsMy family and I visited Hutsadin and were blown away – what a fantastic place! We visited on a Monday so that we could benefit from the English-speaking volunteers as advertised on their website. Our volunteer was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable, introducing us to the four elephants at the centre and our Mahout. We took the youngest of the four elephants for a walk, feeding her along the way. We then were able to wash her down afterwards. It is clear to see that these elephants are in good hands and are well looked after. There is plenty of space for them in their pens, plenty of space outside to roam around and ample food and water. We would like to thank all of the staff at Hutsadin for a phenomenal experience; would most certainly recommend visiting to anyone coming to Hua Hin!Thank you for your review. We are delighted you had an unforgettable experience and were blown away! It is really good to hear that you visited when our Volunteers were available to enhance your visit. We are so pleased you could see that our elephants are in good hands and well looked after. - Susan CManokwari, Indonesia26 contributionsVisited here with my husband and 4 kids ages 7, 10, 13, and 14. The kids loved taking a lesiurely walk around the field with an elephant, stopping often to feed her cucumbers which were included in admissions price for walk/bath. After the walk and bath, we read some of the literature about the elephants and enjoyed an ice cream that was included in admissions price. This was such a fun experience and all 6 of us enjoyed it. We spent one hour here on our way to Tree Tops Adventure Course.Thank you for your review. We are so glad you came too! It is so nice to hear your 4 children loved walking with our elephant. It is also very pleasing to hear that after your activity you read some of the literature about our elephants (and enjoyed an ice cream!). As Volunteers, we have spent a lot of time creating the information about both our elephants at Hutsadin and general information about elephants in captivity, to hopefully give our visitors a better understanding of the work we do and the plight of the Asian elephant. - jmbluxLuxembourg731 contributionsA self-financed foundation that takes care of elephants that are sick/injured or worn out by forestry work, or other fairground animals. A large proportion of the staff are volunteers. For the modest sum of 800 Baht, you can walk your protégé, feed him bananas and give him a shower. A must-do !!!Thank you for your review. We are delighted you view Hutsadin Elephant Foundation as “a wonderful initiative!!!”. It is pleasing to hear that you view ฿800 to walk, feed and shower our elephants is a modest sum. - Louisa G14 contributionsWhat a fantastic experience to get up so close and personal with these majestic creatures. I went back a 2nd time with my husband so he could expereince it too. We walked along the fields, feeding the elephant, before showering her off. She appeared well cared for at all times and we were glad to hear that at night time they are given free run of the fields, and only wear the ankle chain in the day. The volunteers are clearly passionate about the caring for the elephants. Our contribution helps feed, house and look after them humanely.Thank you for your review. It is lovely to hear you have a memory of elephants and happy memories! As you say it is a fantastic experience to get up so close and personal with our elephants. The fact you came back for a second time to share the experience with your husband makes us all very happy. Our Volunteers are passionate about caring for our elephants and love to share their knowledge of elephants with our visitors. - GrandTour35594004533Scottsdale, Arizona41 contributionsA memorable experience at the sanctuary! We went on a day (Wed.) when there would be English speaking volunteers and did the activity with the walk and bath. Our volunteer was very knowledgeable. She told us about the sanctuary and how the elephants came to be there along with some information about each elephant. There were 4 elephants when we went. The walk with the elephant was a neat experience. We also each got a basket of bananas to feed the elephant along the way. At the end, we each got to hose off the elephant with water. I was surprised that we were the only 2 people during our walk and bath. There were other couples at the sanctuary, but they kept each group separate. I didn’t expect the elephants to be chained in their pens and to receive no safety tips before heading out with the elephant. When asked, the volunteer told us how to walk with the elephant safely and why they were chained up. I felt like the elephants were loved and well cared for. The elephant caretakers sell bracelets and other jewelry. I bought a cute bracelet as the money goes to the family of the caretakers. Overall, we made fun memories!Thank you for your review. We are delighted you had a memorable experience at Hutsadin Elephant Foundation. It is great that you chose to visit on a day when you knew our English speaking Volunteers would be available. As you experienced, our Volunteers are very knowledgeable and love to share their knowledge with our visitors. We are sorry that you were not given any safety tips before setting off on your walk with one of our elephants and were only told how to walk with the elephant when you asked. This is certainly not acceptable and will be taken up with the Volunteers. Safety of our elephants, visitors and staff is our number one priority and a safety briefing about walking and being around our elephants should be given each and every time. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. With regards to the chains (as your Volunteer told you, when you asked) you would have noticed during your visit the Foundation has no walls, fences or gates and is completely open next to a busy main road. Elephants are also very big and potentially dangerous animals and the use of chains is necessary and an important part of managing elephants in a traditional hands-on system in South East Asia where there are no enclosures to contain the elephants. - Susan M2 contributionsWent to Hutsadin today with my husband and daughters who absolutely loved the experience! We got to walk, feed and shower the elephants. The staff were very friendly and the opportunity to spend time with these beautiful animals in such a close up setting was fantastic. I would highly recommend it and it’s far better than riding the poor elephants.Thank you for your review. We are delighted your daughters absolutely loved their visit to Hutsadin Elephant Foundation. It is pleasing to hear you found our staff friendly. As you quite rightly say spending time close up with our beautiful elephant family is fantastic. You will have created memories that will last a lifetime for your whole family. Thank you for highly recommending the Foundation, we hope you will all come back and see us again in the future.
