The Vistadome train is also a great service to/from Machu Picchu. Highly recommend that anyone take the train between Cusco and Aguas Calientes use San Pedro station which is in downtown Cusco instead of the outskirts. Even though it adds some time to the journey, you also make up time and have more comfort because you don’t have to transfer to a car, bus, or van. It’s a great route for rail fans because you do these really cool switchbacks down the hill with great views into the historic city center to the San Pedro station, walking distance (10-15 min) from el centro/city center/Plaza de Armas - one of the most unique train experiences we’ve ever had. This has only been available since around 2019 so I'm trying to tell people this is available!
Dear 757julianx, We are happy to know that you enjoyed your train ride to Machu Picchu aboard one of our train. We will congratulate the staff on board for their great job. We hope to have you back on board very soon. Regards! The PeruRail Team

We wanted to book incarail because they have free parking for clients, but they made a mistake and there were no more tickets. I had to buy these. There is no parking, but the schedule is more extensive and there is plenty to choose from. We ordered on the website and received confirmation that we needed to pick up the tickets at least 24 hours in advance. We didn’t succeed, we had to correspond with them on the website, explain, in the end they said that the main thing is to pick up the tickets at least an hour before departure. Why then all this pandemonium? We arrived in Ollanta 2.5 hours before departure, showed our passport and the card with which we bought the ticket, and the tickets themselves were emailed to us. The places are assigned by the system, but the best ones are those on the left as you go towards Machu Picchu and on the right as you go in the opposite direction, because they are on the river side, and the opposite places are on the mountain side and you can’t see anything there at all. That is, good seats are 5,6,7,8, then the second compartment is 13,14,15,16, etc. And the odd ones are the seats by the window. The views are not great, there is no point in overpaying for a Vista house, and there are large windows and everything is clearly visible. You are given a free glass of water along the way, there is a toilet and space for luggage at the beginning of the carriage. Luggage is not checked. There were people with us who were carrying a million backpacks. It took us more than 2 hours to get there because we had to wait a long time for the train to arrive. Return for 1.40. 300 bucks are the cheapest round trip tickets for 3 people with a child, okay, at least they gave the child a discount. Although the Incas have a 50% discount, these have less. But the final price was the same for both.

Sorry to read that some people found this train journey not good and glad I did not read their reviews before we left for Peru? For us we were excited and so glad the seats were allocated and it was not a free for all as quite busy with other tourists. We boarded in Cuzco for the 3.5 hour journey and felt the guards and stewards were all very efficient and helpful. We were given snacks on board and drink and my husband bought me a prosecco to celebrate our journey. It was fantastic with the Urubamba River running at the side and going through the Andean mountains, absolutely stunning. On coming back from Aguas Calientes the following day I was just excited for the return journey but there was a very noisy family laughing and shouting, and just having great fun. There was dancing and the fashion show and generally a good train ride but it was dark so did not see the fantastic scenery like the day before. Staff came round with the included snacks and drinks but no prosecco to buy? Most of the passengers got off the train at Ollantaytambo so the train was so quiet then. With more than an hour to go to get to Cuzco I asked a stewardess if I could buy a glass of wine or beer and she said she'd get back to me but never did? This was my only complaint as otherwise the train journeys were great.

The PeruRail is the service that takes you to Aguas Calientes to visit Macchu Pichu. The service times are prompt and frequent. The boarding process can get a little chaotic and it can be difficult to understand what is going on. We did not realise there was a waiting room in Ollantaytambo, Cusco until late. The lights went out at Ollantaytambo station which made things more difficult to navigate. However, once the train arrived we found our carriage eventually as it was not in alphabetical order. The seats and service were good and the travel was great. You get great views on the train and a free glass of water. The journey time was around 2 hours. The train is iconic with its blue colour and despite a few bumps getting on it was a great trip.

I would like to record my praise for the people who made this trip unforgettable, the dancers Antony, Cinthia, Javiera and Roberto. The Perurail company certainly made a difference in our itinerary, the trip to Aguas Calientes was very beautiful... but the return trip to Cusco with the Vistadomo train was incredible. With typical music and dances, joy and excitement took over the train. It was emotional and will forever remain in my memory and in my heart. See you soon!

A very comfortable train, I took the one from Aguas calientes to San Pedro (Cusco) I think it was the visit dome. The trip very comfortable and Felipe and Maria, the attendants, treated us super. I had gone with the Inka rail, and it's super awkward, very narrow and the show they teach leaves a lot to be desired. To reserve, a bit of a mess. In Spain the page was not going, here in Peru, but you do not clarify with the options. The boarding was very fast. It's a little more expensive than the Inka rail, but for me, it's worth it when you're tired of narrow buses

It wasn't worth the expense. We set the time at 6:10 pm when it was already dark, meaning we didn't see anything through the windows. The onboard service is almost identical to the other train. Honestly, it's not worth the extra expense.

The show was spectacular, they made us feel better that at home we didn't really expect it. They played special music for us, but also the show was aimed at everyone who was in the car. I deeply appreciate the kindness. The good vibe of the three protagonists of the party on the train that we will never forget. Diana Caesar and Yereni

Took the train to and from AC from Ollantaytambo and it was overall a pretty good experience. The train was a little tight with the fold down table in front. The lineup early am was a little confusing and one of the workers looked at our ticket and told us to get on and then we realized it was the wrong car and she seemed to nod when we got off like she knew that so it was a little odd. The ride back we took the Vistadome which was decent. I didn’t see a lot of difference between the ride there and the ride back on Vistadome. The snack boxes they gave us were just ok - some crackers and cookies and coffee and water, anything else you have to pay for. The fashion show was fun but the prices were pretty high. Music show was entertaining. Train seems to go very slow and stops a lot. We were definitely late leaving AC station and arriving back to town.

Views were great! The train ride was smooth. Mid journey programme such as dancing, live music band and fashion “catwalk” was entertaining. Kudos to the performances! One of the things we felt lack of is perhaps no aircon. As it has transparent windows designed , it can cause a “greenhouse effect” that is very hot. Air-condition came intermittently. ( sometimes there’s a gush of cold air, sometimes there’s isn’t ?!) The server who served our cabin only spoke in Spanish and introduce some of the attraction along the way in Spanish ONLY. Which clearly he is aware that we are not Spanish speaker. I guess due we are the only ones in the cabin that is non-Spanish speaker. It is quite wasted as we might have left out some of the important highlight of the train trip due to language issue. As Peru rail vistadom serves many international travellers around the world, we didn’t expect such issue will arise.
Dear 653lilingt, Thank you very much for sharing your experience using our train to Machu Picchu. We are taking your feedback into account to ensure that all of our passengers can have an excellent travel experience in the future. We hope to have you on board again very soon. Kind regards!
