What an amazing place. Wanted to know some history about Saladin and the Citedel. I literally came here and wandered around on my own, 1 person on entry asked if I needed a guide and I refused. After an hour or so I made a video saying I should have used a guide and literally 30seconds after a man sat down offered to tell me all about the history, my prayers were answered. The staff, people and children here were all amazing. I felt like a star, kids asking for selfies with me and all sorts...asking where I'm from, saying hello and being very very friendly. I walked an hour to the Citedel from my accommodation without any issue. Well worth a visit! Abdullah the guide (see photos of me and Abdullah) introduced me to the manager also who was amazing 👏

This is a great location for those who are interested in historic places. You must visit this place for at least half a day to be able to visit all areas, including the Mohamad Ali Mosque. This is a paid visit and cost around 5 USD per ticket for visitors ( non Egyptians ) It is advisable to avoid the visit in summer as it gets very hot. I visited this place in December and it was a great weather indeed.

Fortified complex within which there are beautiful examples of Islamic religious architecture and some interesting museums. Other aspects worthy of note are the terraces, from which you can enjoy a suggestive panorama, and the city walls itself. The entrance ticket includes access to all the sites that can be visited. The atmosphere is very serene and festive, especially due to the numerous school groups on trips. Boys and girls often ask to take a photo together, intrigued by foreign tourists. I would recommend agreeing to the photo, but always with people of your own gender or mixed groups. Inside the complex there are bathrooms (in various places) and a cafe. Take at least 3 hours for the visit because the citadel is very large and rich. Bring a hat for the heat, appropriate clothing for religious sites and water if you don't want to buy it on site.

The Citadel complex sits atop the hills of Cairo with views that provide a panorama of the city and yes you can see the pyramids. Consisting of the old Fort, the stunning Mosque and some other buildings this is an interesting complex. The Mosque along is worth the visit with its echoes of Hagia Sophia, the internal geometry of the building is inspiring. There are plenty of tour groups but the size of the citadel allows them to be easily managed. Worth the visit

Great and interesting site. Please be aware that it’s very difficult to get an Uber out of this place, the connectivity on the app is very bad. You will most likely need to get a local taxi which is what we had to do to get across to the bazaar, which also has bad uber connectivity.

The largest citadel in the Islamic world is perched on a promontory where you can overlook the old city of Cairo. What we saw: Our visit enabled us to inspect the walls and towers, walk through a garden, visit the Muhammad Ali Mosque (Alabaster Mosque) and view Old Cario spread out below us from the terrace. We were shown the site of the Massacre of the Mamluks. What we didn't see: According to the old sign there is the Museum of Al Gawhara Palace, National Military Museum, Museum of Royal Carriages, Open Garden Mosque, two other mosques (Al Nasir Mohammad Ibn Qalaun and Sulayman Pasha) on the site. However, we didn't visit any of them and we're not sure if they required extra entrance fees, were closed (as many guidebooks say they often are) or they just weren't included in our tour. Based on the information in the guidebooks they may not have been of great interest.

It was first built by Salah al-Din, the first sultan of the Ayyubid dynasty. So, it is also called Citadel of Saladin. Salah al-Din is a great leader who is highly respected in both the Muslim and Christian worlds. The area of the castle is huge. Due to time constraints, I just visited two important mosques in the castle: the Muhammad Ali Mosque (a must) and the Al-Nasir Muhammad Mosque. In fact, there are other places worth visiting, such as the Al-Gawhara Palace, the National Military Museum and the Sulayman Pasha Mosque...etc. Looking forward to visiting them in the future.

The Cairo Castle, also known as the Saladin Castle, is situated on a small hill in the ancient city of Cairo, overlooking the city of Cairo. It has been the official residence and administrative center of Egyptian rulers since the 12th century. The Saladin Castle is part of the historic city of Cairo, part of the World Heritage Site, and is an important tourist attraction in the city of Cairo, including the palaces and several mosques, museums, among which the most popular is the Mohammed Ali Mosque, which combines Ottoman Empire with European Baroque architecture, the sophisticated circular roof roofing, the sharp ceremonial tower, the walls of a large number of snowstones, the dark green dome of the prayer hall is covered with golden sculptures, brilliant and magnificent under the lights, can be called the representative of Islamic Egypt. The walls on the west side of the castle overlook the ancient Egyptian city and the remote pyramids, but the ruins of the old city, where the Sultan or Governor looked to his own territory.

The citadel is an amazing place to see the Cairo city, especially the pyramids at distance during sunset. There’s great history to the place, if you wish to learn more about it. Else just take a cup of coffee and enjoy the amazing Egyptian landscape. This place is a must if you’re visiting Cairo.

Visiting The Citadel during our guided tour of Cairo was absolutely worthwhile. The highlight inside The Citadel is the Mosque of Mohammed Ali, which showcases the grandeur of its time. The ceiling and the interior space are truly breathtaking.
