Széchenyi Lánchíd, or as the locals call it, the Chain Bridge, is Budapest’s showstopper, connecting Buda and Pest like a bold statement that demands respect. You walk onto that span, and it feels like stepping into a legend. The iron chains glisten against the Danube, a testament to engineering that’s stood the test of time. You can almost hear the whispers of history echoing through the air, reminding you that this bridge has seen it all—the triumphs, the tragedies, the everyday hustle of a city that doesn’t quit. As you stroll across, the views hit you like a freight train. To one side, you’ve got the majestic Buda Castle looming large, and to the other, the stunning Hungarian Parliament Building flexing its architectural muscles. It’s a postcard waiting to happen, every angle more picturesque than the last. You catch the sunlight dancing off the water, and for a moment, it feels like the whole city is winking at you, saying, “Welcome to Budapest.” But here’s the thing: while the bridge is impressive, it can get a bit crowded, especially during peak tourist hours. You’ve got to navigate through the throngs of people, and that can take away from the experience. Still, the Széchenyi Lánchíd stands proud, a symbol of connection and history that can’t be ignored. You leave feeling like you’ve walked through a slice of Budapest’s soul, and despite the crowds, that’s something you’ll carry with you long after you step off.

One of the most important landmarks of Budapest, connecting Buda and Pest. A pretty popular location for tourists, if you want a nice photo I would suggest a visit in early morning. The view is pretty nice from that location. A must see in Budapest.

Almost all the bridges in Budapest are wonderful, especially at night illuminated, but this bridge stands out for its history as it is the first permanent bridge in the city and Hungary. If you see the photos shared you will notice that it has no ornamental chains and this is because the Nazis blew up the bridges and had to be rebuilt. This is what the guide explained to us, although on the internet it appears that instead of cables it has a chain. Mystery!

The Szechenyi Lanchid - or Szechenyi Chain Bridge if you prefer - another iconic landmark of the city of Budapest - you've seen it in movies, videoclips, etc. It was built between 1840 and 1849 based on the design of the English engineer William Tierney Clark with the actual building process supervised and led by the Scottish engineer Adam Clark. When it was built it has been the first permanent bridge over the Danube in Budapest. It is 375 meters in length and 15 meters in width - built of iron and stone - and it has a very beautiful design - for those of you who are into architecture for sure it would worth some time spent and admiring this construction. On both ends of the bridge you shall find statues of lions - beautifully carved in stone ( there is also an urban legend attached to these lions , but I let you find it out) - those also worth some pictures. When in Budapest it is definitely worth including the chain bridge on your to see / to do list ... for sure it is worth it.

Among the different bridges of Budapest is certainly the most characteristic, especially in the evening when it is illuminated. We saw it both in the evening during the cruise on the Danube and during the day, crossing it to reach Buda from Pest. I recommend covering up because it blows a lot of wind

There are many bridges built on the Danube River, but this is the most iconic of them all. It's structure is absolutely amazing and can be seen up close when walking across it. It's also the perfect spot to get some breath taking photos and videos of each side of the city, the river itself and it's bridges that cross it. It's also worth visiting the bridge both during the day and again at night.

A beautiful passage over the Danube River, the Corrents Bridge, in classic style. It was the first permanent bridge connecting Buda and Pest, built in the mid-19th century. It underwent a major reform in 2023 and currently attracts everyone’s eyes by its magnetism that attracts everyone’s eyes. It is the natural path for those who want to visit the Buda Castle and the Fishermen's Bastian. It is worth walking through it and appreciating the details of the structure and the stone entries.

I will never forget this experience! This iconic landmark truly captures the essence of the city, with stunning views. When we walked across the bridge, we felt a deep sense of history, as it was the first permanent bridge to span the Danube River, connecting the two sides of the city. The architecture is simply breathtaking, it has these majestic stone lions guarding each end and the beautiful suspension cables stretching high above. The bridge provides a fantastic vantage point for taking in panoramic views of Budapest’s skyline, including the Buda Castle and the grand Parliament building. It's an especially magical sight at night when the bridge is beautifully illuminated, casting a golden glow across the river. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, a photography lover, or just someone who enjoys breathtaking views, the Széchenyi Lánchíd is an absolute must-visit. The surrounding area has plenty of cafes and restaurants

The Szechenyi Chain Bridge is beautiful and historic and is an iconic site in Budapest. It was an architectural marvel when it was built in 1849 and was the first bridge across the Danube in Hungary connecting Buda and Pest. It was rebuilt after WWII as the original was blown up by the retreating Germans with only the towers standing. If the lions that guard each end of the bridge look familiar, they are the same design that was installed at Trafalgar Square in London around 20 years later. There are several ways to experience the bridge. It is easy to walk across on your way to Castle Hill as there is a pedestrian path. Views from the Danube embankment or from a boat cruise on the Danube are terrific. The bridge is particularly stunning at night when illuminated especially with Buda Castle in the background.

Over the past few years the bridge has been renovated, and as one of the many bridges on the Danube, that connects Buda and Pest, it is both impressive in both the day and evening times. Visited on Easter Monday, when parts do the city have traffic restrictions allowed easier photos without the usual traffic flowing . Lit up at night
