- travelingfreak71 contributionsIt is an absolutely amazing place although one must be strategic when visiting. First trip was on Friday the third, and there was so much fog, nothing was visible. It was part of a tour, so did all of the cable cars and such, but couldn’t see anything. Had the opportunity to go back on Monday. I took this train from Central Station, bought an unlimited ticket for scenic world, coupled with the explorer bus I got up at the crack of Dawn and I would highly recommend catching the first train to Katoomba. I noticed that across from the Eco bus was just the regular bus that was going straight to scenic world so instead of doing the first six or seven stops on the hop on hop off bus, I went straight, which was key because when I got there around 9:20. I could walk every single attraction and did each twice which was amazing I then jumped on the hop on hop off bus for a nice tour of the valley, back to the train station and back to Sydney. I recommend this versus a tour because you can do what you want when you want and it’s pretty easy to navigate .Visited January 2025Travelled with friendsWritten 5 January 2025
- woobabieRedondo Beach, California53 contributionsWe visited during peak holiday season right after New Year’s Day. It was so crowded. We bought our tickets one week in advance because we heard they were selling out. Tour buses galore when we arrived. Massive groups of 50 people in line. Nice staff but not enough. Wasn’t really clear what line we were entering as the queues wrapped around before the signs. Hard to see the sights in the crammed cable car into the valley with no commentary. We didn’t really know what to see when we got to the bottom of the valley. And it was rainy and cloudy unfortunately, so views were limited. We skipped the scenic skyway altogether. The kids loved dinosaur valley, but it was too long of a walk for our 2 seniors so they didn’t make it. Scenic railway was fun but we wished we could’ve taken it down instead of up. Line was about 30 minutes. It didn’t help that one tour group had 10 people in front of us and then out another 25 people in front of us because they said they were altogether. They should’ve just let us go in front of them. The park is beautiful and nice to be among nature, so 3 stars for that. Just wish there was more organization and more staff at the bottom of the valley to help direct traffic.Visited December 2024Travelled with familyWritten 4 January 2025
- JiggyChicago, Illinois579 contributionsScenic World is a fun experience for all—but for the love of all things holy, do not get stuck behind a tour group! Timing your visit well can make all the difference. The Scenic Railway is the best way to descend to the valley floor—thrilling, slightly terrifying, and an absolute must-do. The Scenic Skyway can get busy, but it’s a lovely ride with stunning views. I recommend riding it a few times to catch different angles—and to fully enjoy the same speech from the driver each time! The Scenic Cableway is the best way to get back up after exploring the Walkway. I’d suggest riding everything at least twice to take in all the views. The Walkway is peaceful, and you can hear plenty of wildlife (mostly birds… and, oddly, dinosaurs), though they’re tough to spot. Speaking of which, the kitschy Dinosaur Valley experience? Not too sure about that one. Best of all, you can enjoy it all in 90 minutes to 2 hours, even with multiple rides. And unlike so many attractions, Scenic World does not make you exit through the gift shop—a small but appreciated touchVisited February 2025Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 February 2025
- James SGold Coast, Australia527 contributionsBought the combination Scenic World entry that came with the Hop on Hop off red bus. When I booked it (through the Scenic World website) it makes you select a time. I had no idea what that time was for when booking. I enquired via e-mail, the question wasn't answered. I still after being there have absolutely no idea what the 10am time I selected had to do with anything, as you just rock up, spend about half an hour in a queue (if you foolishly come via the Scenic Skyway), where the one staff member types in the booking number of everyone who gets off the thing (not there's no staff issuing you a wrist band on the other side where you board). You then can just queue up for any of the three "rides" you want, whenever you want. So yeah, no idea what 10am was about. The Scenic Railway was the reason I wanted to visit, and it doesn't disappoint. When there's misty rain, it is also the only one of the three you can see anything from. For some reason before it goes down or up, the Indiana Jones theme song is playing. Not sure if it technically qualifies as a train, I mean it's more like a non loop rollercoaster. If rollercoasters count as trains, surely the Steel Taipan at Dreamworld, or Joker rollercoaster at Movie World on the Gold Coast would be steeper. You can put your bag or umbrella on the seat beside you, it won't fall out. Likewise you don't need to hold on, you can take photos/videos with your camera as the train plummets or gets winched upwards. Scenic Skyway lets you take in Katoomba Falls on one side and Three Sisters on the other. When the rain mist clears up that is. Best to wait around and let others pass in the line if it is not clear (do this for Scenic Cableway as well). Some easy walks on the non Scenic World side of Skyway, including Katoomba Cascades. But because you're next to Skyway there's plenty of people around, including Japanese and Indian large tour groups who don't wait the few seconds needed for people to take photos without them in it. This also is a factor on "the rides" where many tour group participants try and push you out of the prime position you have stood at with nonsense like "we together". I always congratulated them on their marriage but said that doesn't mean I'm moving from a spot I got to first. Scenic Cableway is the least interesting of all three rides. I was disappointed when boarding it after the railway, to find it went from the valley floor back to the restaurant/giftshop where the other rides leave from instead of another area with lookouts/walks, like the Skyway does. Besides the "rides" there's not much other than a few items from the pre Scenic World coal mining days to see when walking around that you won't see everywhere in the National Parks.Visited March 2025Travelled soloWritten 14 March 2025
- Anne SLeeds, United Kingdom616 contributionsWe came here on an Indian Pacific Train excursion. To get to the visitor centre we took a glass-bottomed cable car across the gorge. We then proceeded to go down into the gorge by a very steep railway. Once at the bottom we were taken on a guided tour of some of the walkways through the ancient rainforest. The reason we have not awarded 5 stars is that our guide, although very informative, went on too long and didn't realise when people had stopped listening. Overall an interesting place.Visited October 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 December 2024
- Rae RUnited Kingdom29 contributionsThere is no denying the views are incredible and something out of this world. However, do expect to spend most of your time at Scenic World queuing. I appreciate its tourist season, but it does seem as though they let too many people in. Also, tour buses tend to get priority over you and this will cause delay. We made the mistake of catching the 09:09 train from Central to Katoomba as our ticket was for 12:00. If we were to do it again, we would have got the earliest entry and caught the first train. Although waking up at the crack of dawn isn’t ideal (the train is 2 hours long then you need to catch a 20 minute bus), it would be much better to miss the crowds. Tourists were very pushy and don’t care about personal space which obviously can’t be helped by the team members but it goes back to the point that there seemed to be too many people.Visited January 2025Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 January 2025
- Julie ETweed Heads, Australia98 contributionsThe blue mountains Scenic World was amazing. We travelled by train from Central Sydney station and the trip was very relaxing. Arrived at Katoomba station and purchased our tickets from the kiosk right at the station and chose the Blue Mountains Explorer Red bus to take us to the sights. Excellent drivers and information and we went straight to Scenic World. The staff were excellent and though it was school holidays with a lot of people we were able to access all the attractions without too much wait. From those guiding you onto the attractions to the food stalls everyone was very helpful and friendly. Great place to visit and well worth spending time exploring all the walks here with easy access for those who are "older" .Visited September 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 28 September 2024
- Patricia QSydney, Australia102 contributionsWe went to the Nocturnal. This is at night and the lighting was beautiful as you walked along the walkway between the Scenic Railway and the Scenic Cableway. We thought that we would finish off with a meal at the end. DON’T DO IT. The choice is minuscule and the cost exorbitant. We ended up ordering 2 hamburgers and a small chips to share with a side water and iced tea and it cost $65.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 13 April 2024
- Traveller N3 contributionsIt's a great day to spend time with your family here, with plenty of hiking tracks around. This well-developed tourist location offers not only cable cars, but also buses that take you around to various viewpoints. My kids loved the steepest cable car. They were extremely excited and treated it like a rollercoaster. However, this experience comes with an not so cheap entrance fee;)Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 17 April 2024
- Sharryn MBrisbane, Australia23 contributionsAttended the Nautical Experience and wow it was excellent. Highly recommend to all ages. We took the Scenic Railway down, walked the boardwalk to experience the light and music show then the cable car back up. Crossed the floor to jump on the Sky walk before leaving. Great night had by all!Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 10 May 2024
