It is home to the Eureka Flag – one of Australia’s most revered cultural artefacts and textile treasures. The Centre is surrounded by the scenic National Heritage-listed Eureka Stockade Memorial Gardens. I The Eureka Stockade resonates profoundly in the Australian national story. The Eureka uprising was a transformative social movement that deeply informed the development of modern democratic Australia. The Eureka Centre explores the cultural impact of the gold rush and tells the stories of the men and women who risked their lives in the fight for miner’s rights. A good history lesson
We took the local bus from the city centre to the Eureka Centre which is set in lovely grounds on the outskirts. The museum was smaller than we expected but it provided us non-Australians with a good historical overview of events we had not heard about before. The onsite cafe was also very good for a coffee break.

    Excellent. Very interesting.
Next stop, to the Eureka Centre, a mini-museum that has been built on the site of the original Eureka Stockade. This was really good, depicting the events leading up to the infamous Eureka Stockade rebellion. It also had the original Eureka flag, which became the emblem for modern worker / unionist rights. That was also good. And a great cafe for coffee and cake.

    EUREKA STOCKADE HISTORY
Not a huge museum but it explains well the history behind the Eureka Stockade and the significance it has in Australian history. The original stockade flag is on display and the associated memorabilia helps set the scene for life in those times. The Memorial Park next to the centre is also worth a stroll through...a number of different memorials all linked to the Eureka Stockade story are each special in their own way...Pathway of Remembrance, Pikeman's Dog, Eureka Circle, Stockade Monument Lake Penhalluriak. The cafe in the centre is a great spot for a break during your explorations of the area.

    A Must See
This is a very important Historical Spot that is a must. I have returned several times as there is a lot to take in. Perfect place to spend a few hours in and then you can enjoy their cafe for a meal or a snack. The team at front desk are amazing and friendly. If you are a local to Ballarat and can prove your address with your drivers' licence etc, it is complimentary access to the museum.
