Located in the original winding house for the cable car system and set over two floors, the museum houses the winding mechanism operational from 1902 until 1978. Fragrifert Parfumeur, The Victorian Perfumery, is a mini-museum and perfume emporium all in one. All perfumes are made by me, Francesco van Eerd, and are created using time honoured techniques and with a high percentage of natural materials. Just as they would have been made one hundred years ago. Where nature allows, I even distill my own materials. The New Zealand Portrait Gallery gives us perspectives on ourselves and our place in the world. It is home to a growing collection of portraits. Our exhibitions include painting, sculpture, caricature, photography and new media. These portraits of members of our society spur us into thinking about what it means to be New Zealanders - perhaps even to wonder if there is a character that is particularly our own. The gallery is located in a long, open building, built in 1904 as a waterside store.
