Interesting and informative and the visit involves walking around the site on wooden walkways or paths. Numerous holes venting steam, but the mud holes were dried up when we visited. The tour takes about an hour, but no geysers or other “wow” features.

Visiting Craters of the Moon in Taupō felt like stepping into another world! This unique geothermal area is a must-see for nature lovers and adventure seekers, offering a fascinating glimpse into the power of the Earth beneath our feet. The well-maintained boardwalks made it easy to explore the bubbling craters, steaming vents, and hissing fumaroles up close. The experience was both eerie and mesmerizing, with clouds of steam rising from the ground, creating a truly surreal atmosphere. The landscape, shaped by geothermal activity, felt almost like walking on another planet! What made the visit even more enjoyable was the peaceful setting and stunning views. The gentle, easy walk took us through a variety of geothermal features, with several lookout points offering panoramic views of the steaming valley. The subtle smell of sulfur added to the authenticity of the experience without being overwhelming. For a small entry fee, Craters of the Moon offers an affordable and unforgettable adventure. It’s an easy, family-friendly walk, perfect for anyone wanting to witness Taupō’s geothermal wonders up close. Don’t forget your camera – the steam rising from the craters makes for some incredible photos! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Highly recommended for a unique and otherworldly experience!

Amazing views and an exciting experience. A small fee to get in but paving and erecting of paths were in very good confirm with great viewing platforms so well worth it. Great information throughout the walk. Would recommend.

Great place to visit and stroller / push car friendly. Total time needed with an infant is more like 85-100 minutes (including reading all the info upon entry), whereas if it's just adults you can do it in sixty minutes. There is plenty of information to read upon entry as well. Only restrooms are located at the main entry/exit point.

It is a pleasant 45 min walk that allows you to fully understand the strong geothermal activity of the region. You walk among craters and fumaroles according to a marked route. That’s nice. Afterwards there are much more impressive sites near Roturoa.

It was my first visit to a geothermal area. A nice walk, would be very exposed in heat or rain. Lots of steam vents, most of mud had dried up but could hear it bubbling. Only $10 to enter, nice gift shop and parking is easy. It was OK we thought. If you have been to other sites around Rotorua, probably one to miss.

We went to Craters of the Moon while staying in Taupo. It takes 45-1 hr to walk the trail. $10 nzd per person. There are toilets. Good souvenirs. The grounds can be warm so, wear something cool.

At 10 dollars per adult it was a pleasant hour stroll. The craters were cool with bursts of steam. Be sure to read the information signs, we learnt a lot. We visited Orakei Korako and Wai o Tapu parks on our trip, but I thought this added something we hadn't seen at either park. The park is hot however so be prepared for that in the heat of the summer.
