A moving tribute to the Australian contribution to world conflicts
I found this much more interesting than I thought I would. It contains some excellent audio visual presentations on the timelines of conflicts as well as personal narratives. It presents a thought provoking insight into the Australian perspective on the conflicts that the citizens of the country has been involved in. I would return to learn more if we had time. I found it a really engaging experience.
Thank you for such an insightful review. We genuinely appreciate you taking the time and are delighted to hear that the experience surpassed your expectations. Our curators and programmers have done such a fantastic job with the Galleries and we're so glad you enjoyed the various types of storytelling. We'd be thrilled to welcome you back when time allows!

A must see if visiting Melbourne for first time. Moving memorial and staff very friendly
While visiting Melbourne for the first time, I stopped by the Shrine during a rainy day. The shrine is a lot bigger that I thought, as there is also a museum in the basement with interesting artifacts and info about the various engagements by the Australian military. The staff was very friendly and providing various info and tips about the shrine. The rooftop balcony has nice views of the city skyline as well
Thank you for the kind review Cody. The Shrine is a great place to visit on a wet Melbourne day. So glad you enjoyed your time here, we'll forward on your positive feedback to the team.

    Amazing Museum....A Must Do !
This was by far the best war memorial we've visited in Australia and New Zealand. It is well laid out and filled with stories of men and women from Victoria and other parts of Australia and hundred of artifacts supporting or explaining these stories. There are a lot of audio-visual presentations in the various hallways and display areas. The displays are well lit and easy to ready. The staff is very helpful and friendly. There are ample number of clean bathrooms and a nice gift shop. The view from the balcony gives a nice overview of the very large property as well as the Melbourne skyline. We spent 3 hours there and enjoyed every bit of it.
Thank you for taking the time to leave such an outstanding review! We're thrilled to hear you found the Shrine to be the best memorial you've visited in Australia and New Zealand, and were particularly happy to hear you appreciated the time and effort put into the audio-visual presentations (which our passionate team have worked very hard on). Our staff takes great pride in being helpful and friendly, and we're delighted that you had a positive experience. We'll be passing your feedback on. Spending three hours exploring and enjoying every bit speaks volumes and is truly appreciated. Hopefully we'll see you again soon!

    Meaningful Tribute to the Anzac.
We have not been to the Shrine of Remembrance for many years so while in Melbourne we decided to take a look at the downstairs improvements. The Shrine is in the Royal Botanical Gardens it's a wonderful & respectful memorial to our Fallen Anzac. The three levels house the galleries, crypt, sanctuary & the balcony, gallery displays artifacts from all wars plus peace keepers & peace makes operation. The crypt shows WW 1 conflict plus the father & son statue but for me the Sanctuary is what the shrine is all about. The balcony overlooks Melbourne but there are many stairs to climb to see the view. The staff were friendly and very helpful explaining to us about the memorial. I believe this is a must do while In Melbourne. Highly recommend
Thank you for sharing your experience! We're glad you had the opportunity to revisit the Shrine of Remembrance and explore the new highlights within the Shrine. It's heartening to hear that you found it to be a wonderful and respectful memorial. We appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you back again soon.

    Remembrance
Visited with my wife on the way to the Botanic Gardens. Very imposing building remembering the people who gave their lives over two world wars. Although we didn't take a tour, just wandering around the outside and viewing the eternal flame was an amazing reminder of how terrible war is.
Thank you for sharing your experience. We're glad you and your wife had the opportunity to stop by. Even without a tour, simply being in its presence can evoke powerful reflections on the sacrifices made in war. We appreciate your visit and your thoughtful review.

No guided tour needed, terrific memorial of all that has served from WW1 and beyond
Stopped by another near mine who actually told me about this really nice memorial for all those who served in the military from World War 1 and beyond. On beautiful grounds & overlooking Melbourne especially when you climb to the top. Little confusing at 1st because the memorial & building whereby inside is below in a different area. Give yourself enough time through all the artifacts, crypt and the "balcony" at very top, I walked up which is a little extreme if you're out of shape but there is an elevator. Great history throughout and definitely well done, and free of charge to enter. Donations accepted Walk across the way to the Botanical Gardens also free to enter. Tram stops below the hill.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We're delighted to hear that you were recommended to visit the Shrine of Remembrance and that you found it to be a beautiful memorial for those who served in the military. We apologise for any initial confusion you experienced, we are always trying to improve wayfinding around the Shrine. We're glad to know that you found your way and appreciate the artifacts, Crypt, and the stunning views from the top. Your mention of the elevator option is helpful for those who may find the climb challenging. We're pleased that you found the history presented throughout the memorial to be engaging and well done, and we truly appreciate your support through donations. Thank you for visiting, we hope to see you again soon!

Wonderful Memorial to those who Served
I visit the Shrine of Remembrance every time I visit from the UK. It is a wonderful memorial to all those who served alongside allied forces in World Wars 1 & 11 and the various other conflicts that have followed. The Shrine is set in beautiful gardens and is free to visit. Standing on the steps gives great views towards the city. The galleries beneath the shrine are a must visit and provide a great record from an Australian perspective of the important contribution made by so many brave Australians.
Thank you so much for your heartfelt review and for your continued support of the Shrine, even from all the way across the globe in the UK. We deeply appreciate your recognition of the significance of the memorial. Your support and appreciation mean a great deal to us, and we look forward to welcoming you back on your future visits. Thank you again for your kind words!

    Fabulous !
Surprising! It’s been 30 years since I visited and the visitor’s centre is fantastic as I never was able to go inside the memorial before ! Make sure you go to the visitor’s centre lots of interesting artefacts and the draw card is the view from the balcony !
Welcome back! Thanks for sharing your experience. The visitor center and Galleries are great additions to the Shrine and we're so glad you enjoyed your time here. The artifacts are definitely fascinating (and at times harrowing) and the stunning view – the balcony is a real crowd-pleaser. We hope to see you again soon!

A must visit in Melbourne to understand Australia and NZ war impacts and is free entry
We found the history very informative and emotive regarding Australia amd NZ involvement across major world wars and their key roles and impacts. The place has lots of rooms on two floors with many displays to browse around, as well as being able to go up to balcony for outside city views. The location is close to royal botanical garden which we visited and was amazing despite is winter and a rainy day.
Thank you for sharing your review, your understanding of the sacrifices made, and the significance of this memorial is deeply appreciated. Despite the weather we are pleased you still enjoyed the balcony views.

    Memorial
This shrine contained a significant amount of details and artifacts from many different wars and peace keeping deployments. It was so much larger than the one in Sydney and we spent at least two hours here. We first made our way through the underground entrance. A video overview and coffee and gift shop were located right as we entered. The galleries were a short flight of stairs up and exhibits were well organized and engaging. It was a testament to the recognition and honor to those who served. The Sanctuary was up at ground level and a quiet place. If one happens to visit on November 11th at 11AM then you can see the sun illuminate the central commemorative stone. From here we finished our visit by climbing up to the balcony where we had an aerial view of the entire grounds and of the Eternal Flame.
We are so pleased you enjoyed your visit to the Shrine of Remembrance and that you found value in everything we offer. It is wonderful you were able to explore all the spaces inside the Shrine for the full experience of the memorial. We hope you are able to visit again.
