If you visit Leipzig, you also have to visit the Bach Museum. It’s that simple.
You can’t visit Leipzigs’ Bach without visiting his Museum. You will find relics, original music paper, Bach ‘piano’ and cello but you will also be able to sit, relax and enjoy his wonderful music. Fantastic museum.

    A must visit museum!
A superb museum particularly for lovers of Bach music and the history of baroque music. There is plenty of interesting displays to read and watch and a copious supply of recordings of Bach music to listen to. Over the road is the Thomas Kirche where one can see original instruments of the baroque period and hear live performances of Cantatas and the Passions.

A must see to the Bach enthusiast
Located in the former Bose family home across St. Thomas church where Bach spent most of his career as a musician. It has interactive displays along with manuscripts and some of the instruments that belonged to the composer. Definitely worth a visit.

    Great interactive museum on Bach!
Excellent Museum on Bach and his family. Located in the Bose family home (close friend & colleague ) right across from the church where he spent most of his career. Great displays of original scores. Very good Interactive displays where you can stop and listen to many of his works. And the original organ that he performed on. Audio guide available in English and very informative. Highly recommend especially for lovers of classical music!

Our new permanent exhibition, Our History. Dictatorship and Democracy after 1945, highlights new themes and explores the post-reunification period in more detail. Here, visitors are taken on a journey through history – from the years after the Second World War to life in former East Germany and today’s Federal Republic of Germany. Why was East Germany founded? Who held the power in the country? How did people live, work, debate and celebrate? Why did the GDR fail? How has Germany grown together again after reunification? What are people’s issues and concerns today? To explore the history of a divided Germany and the years after reunification, the exhibition showcases over 2000 photos, films and objects, from the table in the SED’s politburo to parts of the fence at the Federal German embassy in Prague. In addition, contemporary witnesses not only share their own experience of these events, but show, though their personal stories, how political events affect people’s everyday lives.
