This place is temporarily closed. The Pergamonmuseum is a three-wing complex. The museum houses three of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin’s collections: the Antikensammlung, Vorderasiatisches Museum, and the Museum für Islamische Kunst. The impressive reconstructions of massive archaeological structures – the Pergamon Altar, Market Gate of Miletus, the Ishtar Gate and Processional Way from Babylon, and the Mshatta Facade – have made the Pergamonmuseum famous throughout the world, with the result that it is the most visited museum at the Staatliche Museen and in Germany as a whole.

Pergamon Museum Visit Before Their Long Term Refurnishment
I was fortunate to visit the museum before it is closed for long term refurbishment. Good collection of Middle East antiques. Museum Island is definitely a must visit in Berlin. I will visit them again.

Like going to Babylon for a few hours
This archaeological museum is one of the most beautiful I have visited. It is easily accessible as it is located in Berlin on the museum island, decidedly expensive but absolutely worth it just to admire the gate of the Miletus market. Don't miss the installation The Panorama, when we saw it we were truly amazed! Unfortunately, the museum cannot be completely visited as it is undergoing renovation, so I recommend checking on the official website what is visible and what is not visible at the time of the visit.

    May/June 2024 Temporary Museum
The main museum was being remodeled as of May/June 2024. I found the temporary museum to be amazing. This was one of the best murals that I have ever seen. Your Museum Island combo ticket can get you into the temporary museum.

    Masterpieces of the World Heritage
Like the other exhibition complexes of the Museum Island, the Pergamon Museum was built to house trophy antiques accumulated in huge numbers by German archaeologists in the 19th century. The museum's most famous exhibit is the Pergamon Altar from Asia Minor, so huge that it required a separate hall with a wall height of more than 15 m. The altar was excavated in the resultant excavation on the west coast of Turkey, near the city of Bergama, by Carl Humann in 1878-1886. The monument, dating from 164 BCE, is part of a complex of royal palaces, temples, library and theatre. Equally impressive is the restored market gate from Miletus, built by the Romans in Pergamon in 120 AD during the reign of Emperor Hadrian. The museum also exhibits a roasting collection of Greek and ancient Roman sculptures (some of which bear traces of original paints), Islamic art, statuettes and clay tablets. There are exhibits from Sumer and other parts of the Middle East.

    An epic journey through time!
Wow, the Pergamonmuseum simply blew us away! The sheer scale of the exhibits is incredible - expansive, vast, grand barely do it justice! Walking beneath the reconstructed Ishtar Gate and exploring the intricate details of the Market Gate of Miletus was breathtaking. A must-see for any history-loving couple visiting Berlin!!!!

  • Neues Museum Hotels
The opening of the Neues Museum marked a key chapter in the history of 19th-century art, museum design, and technology. Designed by Friedrich August Stüler and built from 1843 to 1855, the building suffered severe damage during World War II, after which it was left as an abandoned bombsite. Emergency measures to secure the structure were only taken in the 1980s. Painstaking restoration work got under way in 2003 and was undertaken by the offices of the British architect David Chipperfield. The museum reopened its doors to the public in 2009 and combines geographically and thematically related exhibits pooled together from three separate collections at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin: the collection of Egyptian art from the Ägyptisches Museum und Papyrussammlung, of prehistoric objects from the Museum für Vor- und Frühgeschichte, and of classical antiquities from the Antikensammlung.
