I loved visiting this. I went both in the afternoon and at 7am. I strongly recommend visiting early morning. Theee were no tourists at all and I was able to get all the pictures I wanted, catch a service and wander around in peace and quiet. The afternoon is heaving with visitors, you can’t move and the guys at the entrance try and sell you bits of string - they place them on your arm and then want money from you - they are a nightmare. It has a very steep hill to climb to get to it but there is cable car that’s about 2.50. And that will take you almost to the top. Overall it’s a beautiful place

We arrived at 10am to avoid queuing which worked well on a weekday. Admission is free, and you can elect to climb the dome for only €8 which we did. Lots of stairs but the views were worth it and I enjoyed climbing over the rooftop. The dome exit brings you back out in front of the main entrance so you don’t have to queue again to get in. This is an active cathedral with services throughout the day when you may have to wait to be admitted, or if inside must stay silent.

Visiting Sacre-Cœur was an incredible experience—the basilica itself is breathtaking, with its gleaming white domes standing tall over Montmartre. The architecture, intricate details, and serene interior make it one of the most beautiful churches in Paris. That said, it was VERY crowded, especially on a nice day. The stairs and plaza were packed with people, and while the views over Paris were spectacular, finding a quiet moment was tough. Despite the crowds, it’s worth visiting—just be prepared for long lines, street performers, and lots of tourists. If you want a quieter experience, arriving early in the morning or later in the evening might be the best bet.

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Montmartre or simply Sacre-Coeur as it is known to most people is a lovely 19th century church built on the hill of Montmartre. The church is free to enter though you should take note that you may have to wait in line for 20-30 minutes or even longer at busy times. The interiors of the church are beautiful but we were just as impressed by the magnificent views of Paris from Montmartre hill. If you're interested in seeing the city from the top of the basilica, you can buy a ticket for the dome tour but bear in mind that there's 300 steps to the top of the church. We didn't end up taking the tour as we found the views from the hill itself sufficient.

I suggest timing your Montmarte stop in the late afternoon so you can see the area during the day and stay long enough to see this majestic basilica during the night. The view of the city is great but you’ll have lots of other opportunities to enjoy a scenic view from the top. Walking up the hill of Montmartre, the basilica slowly being revealed as you get closer was a memorable sight.

Anyone who visits Paris cannot miss going up to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, from which you can see an extraordinary panorama, especially at sunrise and sunset. Always a very popular place, you can access it from the stairs or with the convenient rack funicular, which you can take using metro tickets. The interior of the basilica is also interesting, where you can climb (for a fee) into the dome, with a tortuous staircase of 300 steps.

Indispensable visit, without a doubt and I recommend coinciding with the sunset, one of the best views of Paris and after sunset you will see the Eiffel Tower illuminated. The surroundings and the neighborhood of the artists is ideal, it is not only the views of Paris, the basilica and its surroundings, it is worth going through Paris and walking through this neighborhood visit its recesses full of art and finish in the famous Moulin Rouge....pleasant walk to go without haste, in between you can visit the cafeteria and fruit shop of the movie Amelie, museums, pastry shops, the square of the artists.... A great memory for your eyes!!

Entrance is free and is a visit that does not take long. A few tips for travellers: be careful, be careful with the bandits on the streets near the church, do not sign the below signed ones, do not give conversation to walking sellers. And if you are using the Navigo to move around the city you can use the little road that is on the left of the staircase to go up and down, saving the immense staircase that leads to the top. Enjoy to take pictures of the city up there and stroll around the neighborhood around the church, there are many shops, restaurant and sights there

This is a colossal minor basilica constructed upon the hilltop at Place Louis Michel in the Montmartre area of the city. The building is an eclectic Neo-Romano & Neo-0Byzantine blend of architecture and was constructed between 1891 and 1923. Opening hours are 6.30am to 10.30pm daily and entry is free. There are several massive domes that dominate the facade as you approach. Within there are subtle use of decor and space, the stained-glass windows are most notable. Views from outside Sacré-Cœur of the city are really nice. Note that the walk up the slope to the entrance is fairly substantial. Just something to keep in mind if you have mobility issues.

Not our first visit to the Sacre-Coeur but this time we were staying in Montmartre so could easily walk up from out hotel. It was a gloriously sunny and warm day too, which had clearly brought everyone out as although it was busy, you can get in really easily, being free. The church itself is very imposing because it's right on the hill there, gleaming in white. Inside is suitably hushed but you can be forgiven for thinking it's an old building when infact it was completed just 110 years ago. There is an additional viewing area in the church dome which is about €8 entry on the way out. It's definitely worth a visit and the views on the hill are amazing. There's also so much to explore in the streets around the church. We love Montmartre anyway but this is the focal point of the whole area.
