Impressionist gallery in a railway station
We got in for free on the first Sunday of the month although you need to book in advance. Entry process was easy. The museum is in the old Gare d'Orsay railway station so the building itself is magnificent and you can look through the giant clocks for views of the Seine. The content is Impressionist and Art Nouveau plus statues. The Impressionist gallery at the top of the building gets very crowded so get there as early as you can. The other rooms are much less busy and very enjoyable. Lots of explanation about the collection in each room. The early cinema content is very good. The museum is right by the Seine and is easily accessible from the Metro.

    Go early
After reading the reviews of failures with paying for easy access, I decided to just turn up on the day. I arrive 8.45 am for 9.30 opening. I didn’t prepurchase any tickets, so was in that queue (no pre purchase). I was 16th in my queue. They opened the queue for pre purchased, no time slot first. After 10 minutes, they closed off that queue to allow my queue (no pre purchase) to enter. Clearer alternating those queues. I had no problems with this process. I was there mainly for Impressionists. And was happy with my last minute decision.

    Best art museum in Paris!
Our favorite art museum in Paris. The 5th floor has all the impressionists we love. The museum is busy but not crazy crowded like the Louvre. Highly recommend. If you bring a backpack you have to put it in coat check.

    the temporary exhibits!
I have been to the Musée d'Orsay on many occasions now and this year we visited the temporary exhibit "Van Gogh in Auvers-sur-Oise", assembling his last 70odd paintings painted during his last 2 1/2 months from May to July 1890 in Auvers sur Oise.... Very well done, and some works not shown before in a public space. It's best to make an advance online booking, to avoid a long queue on the day and time of your visit. Under 18 year olds visit for free!

Great must see museum in Paris...
Great museum, make sure you book in an advance. We bought a dual museum pass with Musee Rodin which is 1/2 a mile away and well worth a visit in tandem. Go straight through the start and up to the top by fastest means possible then work down. Some amazing art and to get best value 2-3 hours. I would eat elsewhere but there is a nice cafe at the top (by the looks of it - not used or reviewed). A must see museum in Paris.

    Spent about 2 hours
Arrived around 9:45 on a Tuesday with a Museum Pass and no pre-booked timeslot (I don't believe it's available for this museum). There are multiple lines but if you have the MP, you will need line C1. The lines look daunting but luckily, it only took us about 15 minutes to get in. I probably preferred this museum over the Louvre just because of the sheer size of the Louvre. The Musée d'Orsay is much more manageable. First, it's much less crowded but you just need to go early because it starts filling up after 11. It's also very well organized so if there is a certain artist or a certain era you'd like to focus on, it's easy to find. My favorite was of course Monet and looking at all the impressionist paintings. And I'm not even an art person but I found myself lingering around some of these paintings. We spent about two hours there and saw pretty much everything. We did breeze through some exhibits we were less interested in so I can see an art lover easily spending a half day to full day here. Definitely worth a visit! Even if you don't have the MP.

    Dream fulfilled!
It has been the fulfillment of my long cherished dream of seeing the works of the Impressionists and post-impressionist painters. The paintings were displayed to perfection in a gallery crafted out from an old railway station, an amazing idea! I was transported to sheer ecstacy!

Excellent to visit. Better than the Louvre?
A lazy Sunday morning, and we headed off for a day of culture ….. to the Le Musee d’Orsay. The d’Orsay building itself, which is impressive. Originally a railway station (1900); then Hotel; finally converted to a museum (1986), housing one of the worlds largest art collections of Old Masters (from 1848 to 1914). It was fascinating to view paintings from the likes of Van Gogh; Monet; Toulouse-Lautrec; etc. We spent hours there.

    Great Museum Experience
Well worth the time. Suggest getting tickets ahead of time, use the open time option. That way you can go when you want and skip the non-ticketed line. We picked what we were interested in (Impressionist artists) which helped us focus on the right floors.

  • Musée Marmottan Monet Hotels
Located in a 19th-century mansion, this museum's fabulous collection of Impressionist paintings ranks second only behind the Musée d'Orsay. Museum Marmottan Monet is the setting for the world's largest collection of works by Claude Monet and Berthe Morisot. As one of the foundations of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, the Musée Marmottan opened to the public on June 21, 1934. In keeping with its founder’s wishes, the small or ancillary rooms (kitchens, bathrooms, etc.) disappeared in order to create bigger spaces and facilitate visitor circulation. Apart from this physical adaptation, other changes awaited the museum as the aura of the Académie des Beaux-Arts attracted new donations and bequests. The museum enriched its collections and opened a new chapter in its history.
