The Confederation Bridge is an impressive structural and engineering achievement. Not to take away from that, but the views from the bridge are not great due to the high barrier walls. Also, if you use the bridge to exit the island, the toll is $50.25 CAD. For more viewing options, I’d recommend taking the bridge to enter the island (no toll) and taking a ferry to leave.

Prior to this bridge being built in the 1990s, you could only take a ferry back and forth to leave PEI. My husband and I drove on here at the end of April. Not great views and not the prettiest bridge, but it got us across. Upon leaving PEI, you need to pay a $50 bridge toll as a punishment for leaving.

A traveler from PEI we ran into in New Hampshire said, "No worries crossing the bridge. You cannot even see the water over the top of the concrete guard rails." Well, that was a fib. If you are "bridge anxious" this will be a bit of a challenge but doable. It is built like a fort and the ride is straight as an arrow. A very well maintained piece of engineering.

Fabulous. A huge bridge, 8 miles long, built on a gradual curve. It carries the Trans-Canada Highway across the Abegweit Passage of the Northumberland Strait and allows you to drive to Vancouver. Best views are from Port Borden front range lighthouse

Our Silver Shadow Bus Tour included a stop at the Confederation Bridge. It is a magnificent engineering structure of 8 Mile bridge constructed over an icy river. There is a lighthouse here also. It costs $50 to cross bridge. The bridge has a curve which is unique. There is a small park by it with Lighthouse, Railroad info, and restrooms. It was a long bus ride to get to the bridge. The Bus Tour was exactly that a bus ride.
