Harrogate is also known as "The English Spa." For centuries, visitors have flocked to the mineral hot springs. Today, those springs still soothe the body while the placid RHS Harlow Carr Gardens and Yorkshire Dales national park stimulate the soul. Tea rooms, architecture, and art galleries are the main pastimes in this pleasant town.  With four rail stations for easy transport, travellers can board trains running between Harrogate and York, Leeds, Knaresborough, and London.

Skiing at Hahnenkamm and the Kitzbühler Horn, Kitzbühl's two primary ski areas, is the thing to do during the town's winter season. Boasting more than 60 lifts, Kitzbühl has slopes for everyone from beginners to professionals, who gather annually at Die Strief for the skiing World Cup.

You’ll find vineyards and olive groves in Bardolino, as well as beaches on beautiful Lake Garda. This town isn’t as popular as other area resort towns, so you shouldn’t find huge crowds here (except perhaps during the local olive oil and wine festival in late September and October). If you’re travelling with kids, make a beeline for the Gardaland and Aqua Paradise amusement parks.

Just north of Cinque Terre, Levanto is often used as a gateway to those less easily reached villages, but has much to offer on its own in the form of sand, sea and sights. Its great waves make Levanto very popular with surfers. Hikers love the surrounding hills, gorgeously covered in pine and olive trees. The town’s medieval castle is perfectly preserved, and several beautiful old churches are here. Many of Levanto’s most important buildings are centered on Piazza della Loggio, the town square.

Vermont's largest and perhaps most cosmopolitan city, Burlington beckons with the perfect blend of old New England charm, arts, culture and nature. Located on the shores of Lake Champlain, between the Adirondack and Green Mountains, Burlington is one of those places you can't help but fall in love with. During the spring and summer, the streets come alive with festivals and outdoor concerts. The picnic benches, playground and bike paths of Leddy Park are filled with warm weather revelers, and opportunities to swim, fish or just kick back on the beach abound. In the fall, the Burlington Bike Path is bustling with leaf peepers who come to view the vibrant autumn colours. In winter, lace up your ice skates and head to the Paquette Arena or grab your skis and head to any of the nearby resorts. Church Street Marketplace, with its early 1900s architecture, great restaurants, live entertainment, one-of-a-kind shops and well-known stores, is the focal point of the downtown area. Anytime of the year is a good time for chocolate. Be sure to stop by Lake Champlain Chocolates for a tour and taste.

<p> Whether your favourite beach activity be lying back and enjoying the summer sun, preparing your own family picnic to enjoy on the beach, or fishing for the various local species from one of the two fishing piers, you will find it all available on your holiday doorstep. Boat trips are also readily available in the area, either purely for pleasure cruising or for fishing.You may wish to enjoy the spectacular views afforded by the large sand dune that is Jockey’s Ridge. Those interested in history may wish to go along to the Wright Brothers’ Visitor Centre, or the Bodie Island Lighthouse and the former keeper’s house, the latter now a museum. Taking the family on one of the nature trails will allow them to see everything from dolphins to local birds of prey in their natural environment, while the more energetic have the option of hiring bicycles to take in the beautiful countryside in a very effective fashion. </p>
