With 2.5 miles of beautiful beaches, an iconic pier and lovely ocean vistas, Lauderdale by the Sea is a small community that attracts visitors from around the world. Here low-rise downtown buildings and mid-century modern architecture exude old Florida charm, even as they celebrate the town’s present-day connection to the ocean — most hotels, restaurants and shops are just a few minutes’ walk from Anglin’s Square, a charming oceanfront gathering place.

The same things that many tourists love such as beautiful beaches, excellent, championship-style golf courses, a plethora of scuba diving sites, and historic sites presumably enamor the celebs as well. One of Florida’s most golf happy regions, the Jupiter area is home to miles of spectacular fairways. You can tee up at more than 50 courses in and around Jupiter such as Jupiter Dunes, Cypress Links, Jonathon’s Landing, Emerald Dunes Golf Club and the PGA National Resort. For beach lovers, popular places to sun and fun include Jupiter Beach Park, Juno Beach Park, and Blowing Rocks Beach on Jupiter Island. Dive enthusiasts have access to more than 30 artificial reefs such as King Neptune, a nine-foot statue of King Neptune and his turtles, and Breakers Reef, a two-mile reef with a five to fifteen foot ledge brimming with fish. Sightseeing highlights encompass the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse and Museum and the Dubois Home, an 1898 pioneer home listed on the National Register of Historic Places that was built on an ancient Indian Shell Mound.

While South Beach, with its hip nightclubs and pastel-hued buildings, gets all the press, other sections of Miami are just as hot and offer culture, recreation and more. Spend the day soaking in the sights and sounds of Little Havana or soaking up the rays at Haulover Beach Park. Explore the Art Deco District or take the children to the zoo. Catapulted to fame for its part in the 1988 Winter Olympics, this former coal-mining town in the Canadian Rockies is a perfect base for visiting some of the country’s most impressive national parks. First stop for most visitors is the ski trails in Canmore Nordic Centre Provincial Park. Contemplate natural wonders at the Museum and Geoscience Centre, and mush through the snow on a sled-dog tour.
