Located in the Allegheny Mountains of Tucker County, Blackwater Falls State Park is named for the amber waters of Blackwater Falls, a 57-foot cascade tinted by the tannic acid of fallen hemlock and red spruce needles. The falls, along with a few of the park’s other features like Elakala Falls, Lindy Point and Pendleton Point Overlook, are some of the state’s most photographed spots. Visitors can enjoy the scenic views year-round by taking the steps to the falls or using viewing platforms. The park has 20 miles of hiking trails, the longest sledding magic carpet on the East Coast, a comfortable lodge and more.

Timberline Mountain is a ski area in Canaan Valley, West Virginia, with over 20 trails for skiing and snowboarding. With a peak elevation of 4,268 ft and a 1,000 ft drop, Timberline Mountain offers a variety of terrain for all skill levels. Timberline Mountain was purchased in 2019 by the Indiana ski area Perfect North Slopes, which has been family owned and operated for more than 40 years. Under its new ownership, Timberline Mountain has undergone over $15 million in capital improvements over the past 2 years, including the replacement of the mountain’s chairlifts with new state-of-the-art Doppelmayr chairlifts. The new summit chairlift is the first high-speed six-person chairlift in the state of West Virginia, carrying passengers to the summit in under 5 minutes. Visitors can relax in the renovated and expanded base lodge, where they can grab a bite at the Slippery Slope Bar & Grill.
