Fremantle, historic maritime city

Fremantle (known locally as "Freo") is the port that services Perth, located at the mouth of the Swan River, just 22 kilometres (30 minutes travel) south of Perth city. Fremantle was the site of an early tent city settlement in 1829, followed closely by establishment of Perth a few kilometres further up the Swan River. Fremantle has a strong historic maritime association and it is still a busy port city. The suburbs between both cities merge, so it is one continuous city area along the Indian Ocean coast.
