THE 5 BEST Montreal Chinatown Accommodation
Chinatown Montreal Hotels
Bakeries, markets, restaurants, and buffets crowd the brightly graffitied streets of Chinatown, the city's aromatic destination for pan-Asian cuisine. Distinguished at its entry points by towering vermillion paifang gates, the compact neighbourhood acts as a focal point for the Chinese community, hectic with educational facilities, cultural centres, acupuncturists, and foreign-language newspapers. Especially vibrant in the warmer months, when the sweet smell of dragon beard candy along the pedestrian walks of Rue de la Gauchetière signal the beginning of the outdoor street fair season, Chinatown is a treasure hunter's dream, with enough knickknack and curiosity shops to tempt even the pickiest shoppers. The convivial vibe picks up after dark, when the area's active nightlife offers evening crowds their choice of drink, dance, and midnight snacks of pho or oysters. Chinatown's mix of new and old, with herbal remedies being sold alongside pop-culture DVDs, gives the area its own animated brand of moxie.

- Asdum491 contributionsCraving foodEnd of day and hungry as hell made my visit all about targeting restaurants. I went to Coco bakery first and had a reverse dinner, dessert first! I then looked at all the stuff my daughter would want me to buy and ended up eating at Oh Dumplings on Clark Street. I love the decorations on De la Gauchetière Street and the door structure that defines you are in Montreal’s Chinatown.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 6 October 2023
- IAN DWigan, United Kingdom26,333 contributionsLooks rundownI don't know why but why do Chinatowns in most cities look rundown and seedy. This one is no different and having also gone on this trip to the one in Toronto this seemed much more rundown. Still the usual large amounts of restaurants but I couldn't find a bakeryVisited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 18 May 2024
- Tony CLeicestershire, United Kingdom57 contributions‘Don’t judge a book by its cover!’‘Don’t judge a book by its cover’ It is small in size to other ‘China Towns’ we have visited. Although the streets seemed a little run down due to the building works going on, once visiting the stores it’s a total different experience. Very friendly staff, wanting to speak English once they realise you are not ‘local’. We ate twice in the local restaurants, excellent value for money. The only downside was encountering people living on the streets, which is an unfortunate problem anywhere.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 July 2024

- Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal) HotelsThe historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.Read more

- Quartier des Spectacles HotelsThe bar-none entertainment district for music and arts, Quartier des Spectacles is an interactive playground that delights the senses. It totals over 30 performance halls, with the vibrant Place des Festivals at its heart. The outdoor event space features glowing towers, glass edifices, and granite-lined bike paths, and hosts annual festivals, concerts, and comedy nights. The cinema, theatres, and exhibition centres are entwined with external art projects, exemplified at Montreal's Contemporary Art Museum and appearing along every walkway of the Promenade des Artistes in the form of sculpture and public works, from digitally-enhanced swingsets to glowing fountains. Design, performance, and alternative music come together here, a stone's throw from the lively Latin Quarter along Rue Saint-Denis, the quintessential after-party spot for dinner and a drink following a day of jazz, poetry and play.Read more
- Quartier International HotelsDesigned to connect and beautify unused space, today the Quartier International is like a transversal piece of modern art. The distinctive design flair is most apparent at its focal point, the Palais des Congres, a convention centre and retail space with a multi-coloured glass exterior and an equally bold interior motif. Outdoors too, the Quartier is friendly towards public art exhibits along its stylish, plotted city squares, with extra-wide sidewalks meant to encourage long strolls and shaded benches available for absorbing the atmosphere. Fresh air and promenades characterise the area, from the foliage of Victoria Square to the fountain of Place Jean-Paul Riopelle, while the restaurants along Rue Saint-Antonie Ouest and Metro stops modeled in the Parisian style give off European glamour.Read more
