With a history of more than 400 years, the garden had in the past been the property of various known samurai lords. These beautiful gardens are located outside of the Imperial Palace. Access to the gardens is open to the public although the palace itself is off limits.

The current palace was constructed in the same spot where Edo Castle used to stand. Most of the palace grounds are not open to the public except for the East Gardens, which are accessible on select days.

A large, torii gate stands at the entrance to this shrine built in memory of those who lost their lives defending Japan. Many officials still come and offer prayer annually on August 15, the anniversary of Japan's defeat in World War II.

Open on the first and third Sunday of each month, Japan’s largest outdoor antique market is sure to satisfy antique lovers, with stalls selling goods both from Japan and overseas.
