PROS: *friendly staff,
*Good location but noisy. There is a day and night market across the road along with 7-11. Very handy but with this comes noise 24hr a day.
*Room is big enough and clean with small balcony and excellent AC.

CONS: quite a few.
*Rooms lack basics like tea/coffee making facilties, no safety deposit box and not even a safe for the visitors at reception. This means leaving valuables in your room or carrying them.
* No Pool
*No hot water. We managed to get Luke warm water the day before we left. The rest of the time it was cold, even after running form 30 minutes.
*Breakfast was THE WORST I have ever experienced in an Asian hotel. No choice, not fresh, one tea bag for 3 litres of water. Literally have eggs, rice and maybe 1 or 2 other (poor) offerings. Fruit was generally one choice.

Would I stay again? I’m not sure. They could make a few basic changes and I’d be happy to stay here again but I think the hotel @Sakon Nakhon will be a better option next time and only a few hundred metres away. I’ve travelled Asian a bit and do not have high expectations but if they want tourists to stay here they need to improve the basics at least.

Comfortable room, very large. Near markets and big stores. Buffet breakfast could be improved, all asian. Wi-fi is poor. TV has only Thai language. Staff speak English and are very knowledgable about the province. Locals know this place as the MJ.

My wife and I have stayed at the MJ 3 times this year-June, July and October. We use it as a base to visit our daughter at Kasetsart University, Sakok Nakhon campus 15 km out of town. Our home is in Ubon.

The hotel is okay. We get a room for 800 baht/night with breakfast. Room is clean, quiet and the breakfast adequate.

Staff are not that interested in guests. Only 1 man at the desk speaks English but as I speak fluent Thai that is not a problem. Last week when we stayed they had no internet computer but they let me use their own laptop as there is a wireless network throughout the hotel. I will bring my own next time. Also in the restaurant for breakfast, the cook cooked up special thai vegetables for me without MSG. Service was great.

I think the hotel is saving on staff as there seemed to be hardly anyone around-only one waitress in the restaurant.

We find the location very convenient. We enjoy the wonderful park about 1 km down the road. Great to walk and jog around in the evening. Then there is the Green Corner restaurant only 500 m away. What a restaurant. Serves Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese and European food; has its own bakery with different breads including wholebread and the usual range of cakes; serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. We won't eat anywhere else. Very clean.

I wish every town had a restaurant like Green Corner.

Sakon Nakhon is defintely not a tourist place like Mukdahan and Ubon and not international like Khon Kaen and Udorn. I am just comparing North East Thailand cities.

Therefore don't expect good service and don't expect much English. However, the people are very nice even if they don't go out their way to help you. It is the way they are.

It boils down to this. There isn't much choice in Sakon Nakhon. The MJ is the best one by far.

Situated right in town. Night Market and city shopping is a comfortable walking distance. Large car park. ALL the staff are very polite and courteous and for a long timer visitor to be called by your first name is nice. The hotel is very clean and all facilities excellent. English speaking reception. The rooms are spacious, homely, peaceful and quiet. Never ever have I had to make a complaint in any respect. This hotel gets a very big thumbs up from me.

I stayed at this hotel for two nights. It seemed to be a part of Thailand that does not have a lot of tourists. The hotel has very basic amenities. It is pretty much a roller cot in a room with a bathroom. The water pressure is absolutely horrible. I could not take a full shower due to low pressure. Also the main floor bathrooms had cockroaches. I due have to give the hotel credit because the linens are clean and it is a good place to stay if you are only concerned with sleeping. There is also free wireless internet throughout the hotel. I paid 800 B per Night.

Sakhon Nakhon is in the middle of nowhere and good hotels scarce. Most foreign visitors are married to Thai nationals.
We booked a superior room for 850 baht a night (around £12). The room was very spacious, with ample room to walk round and a separate relaxing area with coffee table and lounging chairs.
The hotel including bedding etc is spotless, room service immaculate. Food is excellent and the hotel is smack in the center of town walking distance to shops, bars, and the fascinating locall market is 20 yards away.
Hotel has its own night club or separate 'subdued' cabaret, and a snooker hall.
Bathroom and shower also spotless but go for the 6th floor the water pressure is much higher shower blows you away. And avoid room 414 the housemaids phone is outside the door rings every 2 minutes day and night ! I really am nit-picking now !
You can get a suite for around £35 a night !

Clean and functional. Strategic location, within walking distance to shopping and eating options. Beds, like in much of real Thailand, are rock hard. A few things to note - very few taxis in this town. If you need a ride to the airport, it may not be possible to get a taxi. When I needed to go the front desk tried and failed. To her credit, the hotel's GM drove me to the airport herself!
