We stayed here for 4 nights in August. It’s not luxury, but you’re probably not expecting that if you’ve made your way to Isla de la Juventud. It’s a bit dated like a lot of the state hotels in Cuba – some holes in the ceiling in the lobby area and restaurant and pool area is a bit tatty. But...

The hotel staff were extremely attentive, and despite the language barrier on my behalf did their utmost to answer any questions or meet any requests I had. Those that manned the restaurant were especially friendly and welcoming - particularly the older gentleman with the black bow tie - and the food and service they delivered exceeded all my expectations. This...

It's not straightforward to get to, but if you wanted easy you would have gone somewhere else. Cuba is at a moment of change with the opening of its borders. The hotel is plain but clean, the staff are very helpful, the hotel restaurant is distinctly average, mainly due to the limitations of getting fresh veg. The pool is lovely...

I recently had the pleasure of spending 6 nights at the Hotel El Colony while on a fly fishing trip to the Isle de Juventud. Having arrived after an early morning flight from Havana, we were greeted by huge smiles from the reception staff, shown our room, then invited to eat breakfast. The hotel is kept spotlessly clean, the majority...

Probably the only resort/hotel in the Caribbean without guests! And the place is actually beautiful and very well-maintained. It has a big pool and a small beach. The bar that juts out to the ocean unfortunately is not in service anymore because it was destroyed during a cyclone many years ago. The restaurant serves so-so food. The staff here are...

Visited here 15-20 Jan 2015 As much as its documented by many as hard to get to it's really not. The hard bit is confirming bookings in advance but with not many guests you're sure to get a room but it might not be a Bungalow. Fly with Aero Caribbean from Havana (2000hrs dept Terminal 1) to Nueva Gerona (2030hrs...

I'm not giving a poor here because the whole experience was more sad than bad. We've stayed five nights at El Colony, we booked in advance and the touristic operator (Cubaism) system showed us that the hotel was almost fully booked - that was a lie! We've been there in the new year's and it was completely empty, only me...

My husband and I have had the privilege to visit here twice.....in 2011 and October of 2014. We never stayed the night here but rather spent the day here, as we stay in Gerona with our Cuban friends. however we would love to stay here and we have looked at the rooms, they are lovely and very clean. In expensive...we...

A Nice out of the way Resort. Most of the people that come to this resort are going diving or snorkeling. There was a group from England of 28 university students & 3 professors. We had the resort to ourselves during the day. We took a bungalow and it was well worth it. Very nice. This resort runs on 220...

We stayed in El Colony in May - the place was compleately empty. For a total number o 3 guests it seemed that 30 people are employed, performing useless tasks. This adds to the rather outdated architecture, typical 80s resort, very common in Eastern Europe 30 years ago. Despite that the bungalows are renovated: clean, modern and comfortable. The food...

“The hotel itself is amazingly well kept, clean and tidy. Considering that they don't have many guests. Bungalow Locations FYI:- Bungalows 130/131/132/133 are all fairly near the pool and bar area. I stayed in 130 and it could be noisy even when guest numbers are low. Staff enjoy shouting when communicating day and night. Bungalows 136 (136 is at the end of the main block) to 153 (153 is at the end of this run and resort) are the ones to request. If you're looking to be as far away from the pool area and just read a book in silence with an ocean/beach view then 153 is yours! 152 is its neighbour and they are semidetached buildings.”
