The hotel has seen better times. For the price we were charged we expected something better. The other two hotels, El Establo and Belmar, were sold out so we ended up booking here. The bad experience started with the staff at the front desk. They seem to have anemia, low energy or both at the same time. Perhaps the manager...

The room mas much bigger than expected.. very very nice with beautiful view and two queen sized beads. the breakfast was nice the staff was great. I would totally recommend it, not a very romantic site (not for a honeymoon stay) much more appealing for families.

The rooms here are very variable. Our room was a strange layout having a sepearte little sitting area and a limited view of only trees. The fridge was missing and when we reported this to the reception we got a curt response. The en-suite shower room was minute, the only way to sit on the toilet was to move the...

We spent 3 nights at the Fonda Vela but wished we had stayed longer. We had a lovely, spacious room with beautiful views across the forest, and enjoyed the pool and the extensive grounds with forest walks. We saw a wide range of birds, capucin monkeys, white-nosed coatis, and agoutis in the grounds. The staff were very friendly and helpful...

4.5 km out of St. Elena on the worst gravel (no gravel only boulders) road. The attitude of the restaurant staff was poor, couldn't get rid of you fast enough. The pool looked beautiful but was unheated, no towels where we were directed to find them and half the balls were missing from the pool table. The staff at reception...

Very nice hotel in Monteverde. Recently, my wife and I spent 3 nights at HFV and found the hotel room very spacious and clean. Broad green grounds for walking with restaurant and pool a short walk from all rooms. Best surprise was the restaurant. We were told it was the best food in the area and it was wonderful. The...

We had a pleasant stay at the Fonda Vela. Room was good, food was excellent and staff was helpful and friendly. Make sure you don't miss watching the sunset from the hotel, it is absolutely breathtaking.

My wife and I recently spend three nights at the Fonda Vela and absolutely enjoyed our stay. Although the rooms could use some rehab they are comfortable enough. More about this later. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The views of the gulf of Nicoya are spectacular and they are very close to two different reserves, Monteverde and Curi-Cancha....

First you should not check into this hotel unless you have private transport. They are quite far out of town but there is no complementary shuttle service. Another minus is without private transport you have to eat at the hotel and the food is very mediocre. The last disadvantage was while they advertised that they had wifi there was no...

Where to begin? The room: walked into the room and was hit with the strongest smell of Raid or an insecticide. Immediately saw a two inch cockroach on the wall that scampered away. Old bedding, dirty shredded screens on the windows. Older dirty chairs in the sitting area. The safe was demolished and smashed. The bathroom was filthy with mold,...
