This hotel was on our Audley travel itinerary. The hotel and Monteverde are over rated. The hotel is clean, pretty basic, reached down a very bumpy path about 10 minutes from the village. Once you are there, there's nothing to do, the food is average, verging on poor and what's more it's expensive. It costs $20 for the return trip...

Drove here ourselves in a 4x4 from Arenal in 2.5 hours (not 4 as we were told). The roads are bumpy and many may find it arduous. We, however, like off roading. We had a warm welcome. The staff were very nice. We stayed in a mountain view room (a steep little walk) which was clean but basic. Great view...

Perched high in the cloud forest 2/3 km from the village and a 15 min walk to the Monteverde Nat'l Cloud Forest Reserve. The "roads" to the village are terrible most of the time. The hotel is quite neat and tidy and the staff are all very pleasant. The Mountain View rooms do indeed gives great view but not meant...

The room was lovely, with an extra sitting room overlooking the ancient trees and gardens at the Trapp Family Lodge. Staff was helpful to a fault. Very restful and moments away from the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.

First, parts that can be better: The hotel is the closest to the Reserve - however, the road in and out of the hotel to the town and almost all other activities (except the Reserve, I suppose) is very bumpy and not a short ride, either, especially when the weather is wet. The amenities of the hotel can be better:...

We stayed in a mountain suite which had a great view of the cloud forrest opposite. The room was great – loads of space, clean and nicely done out. It's not luxurious, but it is down to earth comfort. The staff were very helpful in recommending tours (do the Trapiche coffee/chocolate/sugar tour and spend a day in Monteverde reserve -...

The view from the mountain suite is unreal. Staff is nice. Don't expect a lot of fluff, it's a quaint and humble, but large family owned establishment that has an amazing location tucked away from the main hotel area. The hotel's diligence to their sustainability accreditation is evident. The restaurant is nothing to rave about, but served its purpose with...

Like other posters, I'll say it's a bit tired, When we got to our room after a day's driving to find our room had such a bad damp smell it made us both sneeze and feel a bit 'ick' . They changed our room on request which was better but it kind of put a dampener (so to speak) on...

We really enjoyed our two night stay at Trapp. The staff was very friendly and the property was well maintained. They even took our dinner order before the night tour and had it ready upon our return. We also really liked the fact that the property was situated away from town. In fact it was the last hotel before reaching...

Disappointing stay here. Low season, rooms are tired, bathroom quite dirty and very damp. Needs refurbishment. Breakfast and staff very friendly though. You can get a taxi into town for $10 and recommend doing so as dinner and bar closes at 8pm
