I stayed 5 nights at the lodge. For relaxation that was a good amount of time. I would have definitely had a better stay if I had rented a car. I was traveling alone so I was really not comfortable walking alone too far by myself. Yes, you can walk into town but you need hiking shoes because some of... More

I loved how peaceful this lodge was! Super close to quaint monteverde but off the beaten path so it felt totally private when you were there. Views were spectacular as each room has a deck (if on upper level- house closer to reception would have best views )! Bird lovers heaven. Rooms are simple- cabin like and perfect for this... More

We stayed for three days at the Cala Lodge and found it to be a very peaceful retreat, which attracts birds. The owner, Francisco took us on a birding tour, where we saw the male and femal quetzals! The staff were very accomodating and the small kitchen allowed us to also prepare food. It was beautiful lodging, with a large... More

Cala Lodge was built on three acres of property or 1.2 hectares of forest right next to the world renowned Children’s Eternal Rain Forest which has an area of 52.800 acres and it is the largest private reserve of Central America. What I really love about this place is that even though it is a short walk from town, it’s... More

My wife and I are elderly S Africans .In terms of value for money it was far better than anything else we experienced in Costa Rica .The lodge is very well located in the forest but within 10 or so minutes walking of most of the attractions in the town. The accommodation is spacious,we had a suite, quiet, and comfortable. The owners are most... We stayed two nights at Cala Lodge and left loving the experience. This is a great escape run by a lovely couple who work very very hard to accommodate every need. In fact it's worth going just to meet them. If you are a birder (which I'm not), or "a ticker" which is a birder's birder then this is the... More

We really enjoyed the breakfast room and common deck, especially watching the colorful birds feasting at the fruit feeder. Jossie at the front desk was extremely helpful and kind, setting us up with a wonderful naturalist tour of the cloud forest, recommending the nearby butterfly garden--an interesting place within walking distance--helping us change our coffee tour to the afternoon so... Spotless Suite, very tastefully decorated, comfortable beds and pillows, A TUB, beautiful balcony surrounded by lush green cloud forest, birds, monkeys, families of raccoons (or similar) all seen from our balcony. Fully equipped kitchenette with everything we needed. Francisco, the owner, spoke perfect English, gave us helpful advise with maps and tips of places to see. We plan to return... More

My husband and I stayed at the Cala Lodge for three nights and we absolutely loved our time there. We came to Monteverde from Arenal and hadn't booked any activities yet. Loved the location. Just a small taxi ride from the noise of the city near good restaurants and fabulous for enjoying nature. The bird platform was a highlight. View from our room all the way to the gulf. Spacious and clean. Very comfortable bed. Best part was a hot bath and tub (our previous location lacked hot water) . Rachel... More
