We stayed one night at the Ancient Unicorn, breaking the journey from Scotland to Norfolk. The inn is definitely dog friendly. The bedroom was functional, but with a very comfortable bed. Our only criticism was the lack of a mirror in the room to dry my hair. Despite it being a Saturday night, there was nothing to disturb our early... More

I stayed at the Ancient Unicorn some years ago, when it was rather run down and in need of attention. It later closed, but has recently been refurbished and reopened, under new management. The hotel and adjoining buildings are arranged round a cobbled courtyard, and my room was opposite the actual hotel, with its own exterior entrance. I had a... More

Stayed with our dog when doing the pennine way. Very welcoming , breakfast was delicious. Room was fine and spacious - most seem to be on the ground floor which is handy when travelling with a dog. Local area has very nice walks and the castle is one 5 mins away .

Frequented the establishment during a house move to the area, for both for accommodation and meals. The newly appointed room was in the annex and was virtually faultless, thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had various meals over a number of visits in the bar/lounge area and completely won over by the quality and quantity. Bar was by the log fire... More

My partner and I were frequent visitors to this lovely old coaching inn when it was under previous management. Our first visit under current management was a real treat. We sat in the quieter side lounge until our table was ready. It was so nice to see that some time and money has been spent in refreshing the décor and... More

Arrived to find a dog friendly bar, and suitable for older children too... A very warm and hospitable welcome from the staff and locals as well... Stayed for a leisurely lunch, which was cooked to perfection... Nicely priced menu with a good selection of main courses, and good sized portions. Will definitely visit again...

The landlady was very welcoming, making me at ease and looked after. Supper and beer by a warm fire was great. The courtyard room was spacious, lovely bath, comfortable bed, everything you could need. Breakfast was excellent, to set me up for a day exploring the area. So beautiful on a lovely warm spring day with swalllows in the barns.... More

Friendly welcome. Beautiful room. The food is great and the Scottish chef, George, is excellent! Huge servings, just what you need after a day hillwalking. Would recommend everything about this hostelry. Wish we could stay longer,
