Detailed Reviews
Check-in was great, Very professional! we booked a first-floor mezzanine room. There was no elevator I was aware of. The room was practical and well heated. The shower room was very small with a tiny basin, (you can't fill a bottle), the shower had good water pressure with warm water. so overall a win. The room is cosy for 4 people but we knew that when we booked.
The restaurant offers good sized portions, especially the kid's meals. The second night we ordered 1 for our 2 kids to reduce the waste. The dishes on offer were your solid choices for the hungry pioneer. Steak, curry, ribs and burgers amongst offers. I didn't look for veggie or vegan choices sorry. There is an open fire/kitchen haze within the bar-restaurant so you do leave with the flavour in your clothes.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and definitely will go back again.

Stayed ANZAC weekend with the crossing package which included 2 nights, 2x breakfast, shuttle to and from the hike and a packed lunch (also paid an extra night). A really good deal and the packed lunch was great. The rooms are well appointed although the bathrooms are tight with the door closed - shower is nice and hot after a day of activities. Restaurant is good (we ate there three nights) - recommend the steak. Enjoyed the stay and the service and staff were outstanding. Cant wait to return.

Many thanks for your great review. We're pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to hosting you again. The Tongariro Crossing Package is very popular, not only because of its discount but the convenience of having all arrangements — transport, lunches etc, — done for you.

We booked a deal which included 2 nights' accommodation, transport to/from the Tongariro crossing, breakfast and packed lunch for the crossing. It was excellent value. Breakfast was nice. The service was friendly and helpful.
Currently being negatively impacted by low tourist numbers, so businesses like this will be struggling.
We recommend this hotel if you are doing the Tongariro crossing.

We stayed at The Park Hotel as they offered a summer Tongariro Crossing package deal. My friend and I stayed two nights for a cost of $200 each. For this we got a return shuttle to the track, cooked breakfast on both days, a packed lunch on the day of our walk and access to the spa pool and wifi.
Overall this was great, the room and bathroom was very clean and the food delicious.
On our arrival to the hotel we were give information about the track, options to pick in relation to shuttle times and a choice of what we wanted in our lunch for the hike.
Overall excellent service in every part of the hotel including the bar and restaurant.
Only downfall from my point of view were the thin walls and rowdy people in the next room and the lack of an extractor fan in the bathroom.
100% would stay again. They organised everything and made the process so simple.

This is a 3 star motel style hotel, in which the rooms are on two floors around a central garden. The room was freshly decorated and the furnishings were fairly new and it had a clean, but utilitarian, feel to it. The room was, however, a bit small and the bathroom was tiny, so much so that the door was a sliding door that gave visual privacy but no sound deadening. Overall, it was cramped. The floors were pretty creaky so that when the room above us got up early it woke us, even though they were not being particularly noisy.
The restaurant was better and served homely food, of good quality, and was able to cope with very big groups without delay to the casual guests. There is no pretension about it – order in our food and drink at the bar and find a table. They were doing a brisk trade – quite possibly there were few other places to eat. Breakfast was a buffet and reasonable. Service was prompt.

Thanks for your review. We agree that our bathrooms are small but not much we can do about that except reflect it in the good value pricing. On the plus side our showers have very good pressure and unlimited hot water. As our typical stay is 2 nights most people find it suitable and excellent value. Our king sized beds do use up a bit of space but guests really like them.

My son and I were on the last night of a motorcycle tour of the North Island. Heading north, we decided to avoid SH1 and ride through the Tongariro National Park on SH4. An overnight stay at The Park was in order. What a great stay it was. Arriving at dusk, we washed our bikes and the staff provided clean towels to wipe them down. No fuss. Excellent service.
The room was warm and cosy. Super comfy single beds with electric blankets on tap. Modern bathroom with a great (hot) shower. Fast uninterrupted WiFi. A big and healthy dinner in the dining room followed by an uninterrupted sleep.
Fresh cooked breakfast with coffee and we were on the road again. Excellent professional management and staff. Stay there if you can, With the bonus of great scenery and avoidance of the Taupo tourist traps, stay at The Park if you can. It’s definitely worth it. Glad we did.

What a great review - many thanks for those appreciative words. We're almost exactly halfway between Auckland and Wellington so we agree it's an ideal location to stop when you're heading up (or down) the North Island. It's very satisfying to finally be able to offer fast wi-fi. At last National Park has fibre broadband and we've got the fastest available — Fibre Max.

I wish to start with the positives. All staff where exceptionally polite and helpful. This was via booking before arrival, on arrival as well as every encounter during our stay. They even let us check in 30 minutes early. The breakfast and other food is really what makes this place okay. A good little lunch pack for the Tongariro crossing as well. The shuttle used was on time, polite and informative. The room was clean and to an average standard of climate control due to a heater and electric blankets. Now the negatives. We barely slept either night due to all the noise because of no sound proofing. We could hear people talking and walking outside, next door as well as above us. We did not have kids above us but people that where busy and we could hear every shower or toilet break. Not relaxing at all. No room service was done due to them being under staffed as we where told at 6pm when offered clean new towels on our second day. Our drinks at the bar where great besides having to fish out bugs of our Tequila shots! We specially looked for a close place to the crossing with hot pools or similar. They obviously allowed too many people with the same package for the weekend as it was continually packed in the allowed times. We wanted to play a board game or cards but all of these where in terrible condition, dirty or neglected. Will not be back in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to post a comprehensive review and the positive comments on many aspects of your stay. The staff certainly appreciate a mention as they do make a real effort. Thank you for drawing our attention to those aspects of your stay that were not up to your expectation. I believe one of our 2 spas may have been out of action as were are in the process of an ovehaul to ensure both are running properly as they are very popular. We will attend to the deficiencies in our games available for guests - they should be up to scratch. It's certainly very annoying to have noisy neighbors in nearby rooms, having experienced it myself in some (much fancier than ours) hotels, so we can understand your reluctance to return. Our apologies for not servicing the room - not good enough. It's been a tough year for hotels in the Covid environment be we are on top of it now and doing our best to give all guests the best possible experience.

The Park Hotel provided everything we needed for one night following the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. It was in a convenient location, with a restaurant in house. The room accommodated family of four with small bathroom and fridge with tea and coffee making facilities. Would recommend to those prior to or following completion of the Tongariro Crossing or surrounding walks!

Did the Tongariro Crossing 2 night package. This has got to be the best value two night activity package around. Could not fault the Park Hotel. All of it exceeded our expectations given the price. Staff were super friendly. Food, rooms, transport and all the other extras made the weekend a great experience. Not to be missed during Covid closure times when the usually frantic crossing is much quieter.

The Park has an alpine lodge feel with reasonable restaurant. Sometimes there is a wait to be seated on an evening and the meal choice for vegans was limited. The room was tight for 3 people with a very snug bathroom area but the shower was great- plenty of hot water to sooth aching muscles after the Tongariro crossing. There are electric blankets on the beds and I think in Winter it might feel a bit chilly in the room - the electric heater was a necessity! We didn’t realise the hotel could arrange drop offs/pick ups and would probably have taken advantage of this service. Beds were comfy though and would recommend - just room size might be an issue for multiple occupants.
