The website told us they would be open, but when we got there there was no food to be had. Dining was only for guests staying at the hotel, apparently. They were only too pleased to take car-parking charges off us though. Waste of time.

I read some comments in the thread about, manager Per Garen being notorious in the Norwegian press: can anyone expand on this?
Also each time there is a negative review the same comment comes back from hotel about people not really staying there, sounds bizzare, I assume you stayed there, what happened?

This is very weird... I thought this hotel was excellent and what I can only assume was the manager (the guy who ran the front desk) was beyond friendly to me. I was travelling by myself and every time he saw me he would strike up a conversation which was nice after being in Norway by myself for several days where everyone mostly keeps to themselves.
I mean maybe I am just used to roughing it out, but I did not notice anything wrong with my room... the bathroom was a little dated I guess, but the towels were fine...
Honestly, the reason I intend to return here is just the location, the view, and the waterfall in the backyard. I wish I was there right now, it was just beyond beautiful.
