For a 5 star hotel service is appalling. We arrived, left, walked around always mostly never acknowleged. It seems like the hotel runs on unqualified youngsters or unaware of the sense of customer service. Same goes for the breakfast area where tables where left unattended, with staff unbothered. Hotel is pleasant witin a peaceful setting, but once again for the standard it possesses lacks in attention to many details. Many improvements needed.
Azores Airline put us up here due to their many canceled flights and it was a pure delight. The location is right next to the beautiful and rugged Atlantic coastline. You can take walks on the trail and actually get down to the water during low tide. The rooms and food are quite good. The experience was great for the Azores and would not have cared if we had to stay another night but Azores Airlines wouldn't keep us there again :(
Really liked the breakfast. Really liked the architecture, and how it all sits on the landscape. a nearby coastal hiking trail is great for a causal stroll, and leads to natural swimming hole in the ocean. too cold in January to use the outdoor pool, but the indoor pool was AOK for short laps and relaxing; the gym is VERY small, but managed to work-in some work-outs, while also hiking and hot-springing at nearby destinations. Piano players were fine, a sweet touch at the bar. the resort does feel like it's "in the middle of nowhere" but with a rental car one can get to many cool places quite quickly.
Definitely recommend to everyone looking for an amazing place to rest. You will need a car to get anywhere but that shouldn't be a surprise in Azores. It's 5min from center and it's easy to organise any road trip to the East and West part of the island. Super clean, extremely helpful staff and good breakfast. I'd definitely go back.
This was our first trip to the Azores Islands – we spent here 7 days in March 2019 and we were very happy with the location, services, cleanliness and the scenic location of this hotel. We couldn’t have chosen a better place. Weather wise --- March is a nice month to visit if you’re not interested in being a beach bum. It’s 10-15 degrees Celsius – cozy enough for a T-shirt and a light jacket, going hiking, visiting tea plantations, enjoying nice views, endless pastures, etc. PROs: • Location – while it’s on the other side of the island vs. the airport, don’t let that scare you – you’re 30 min drive max from the airport and there are several very nice small highways to take you there and make you see the scenic island all around. We actually preferred this location vs. the hustle and bustle and crowded Porta Delgada hotel options where there’s no real view and there’s a lot of noise. In addition, this hotel comes with a gorgeous view of the ocean and dramatic cliff wall – it’s awesome to sit back and listen to the waves crushing just next to you • Parking/ Car Rental – make sure you book your car rental before you leave your home country to get decent prices. The hotel has tons of free and safe parking right in front of the hotel door. If you’re not used to driving a manual, don’t venture off with one – there’s a lot of ups and downs and high mountains and hills, it’s better to be safe. If you arrive in the airport and try to rent a car it’s madness – they are asking for 600-900 EUR per car per week and it’s not worth the hustle. • Gorgeous, safe and very clean rooms – they have everything you need, including free wi-fi throughout the hotel. We had a mountain view room on the 2nd floor and we loved waking up to the sound of cow bells or the the wind blowing through the tall grass. The view of the mountain and endless cow pastures was epic and so relaxing. The design of the rooms is very modern, extremely relaxing, cozy and comfy. The images you see on the hotel’s website or TripAdvisor are real and accurate. • Restaurant/ Breakfast/ Food/ Staff: we had the breakfast included and there were plenty of food options, lots of variety, we also enjoyed the attention to detail the cooking staff puts in. Be sure to try the local milk, butter and cheeses – they are amazing!!! • Pools/ Sauna – we were on the go hiking and visiting the entire island every day, and we spent 2-3 hours in the indoor pool and the 2 saunas every night and we loved relaxing there! It was too cold to use the outdoor pool, and the inside pool is not as big, but you have decent space and you can definitely relax after hours of hiking and driving • Reception staff – is very nice, knowledgeable, funny, and always ready to help provide advice and support. Ask them about the weather before you head out – they have this trick where they look up the mountain and depending on which part of the mountain is covered by clouds they can tell you if it will rain or be sunny. This is very useful in deciding if you can drive up the mountain to see the gorgeous views all the way to the ocean, if you can hike, etc. and not waste an entire day in the rain • Entertainment – they have a fairly decent collection of small boardgames you can borrow and play in the room or in the lobby area. There’s also a pool table in one of the restaurants. THINGS THAT NEED IMPROVEMENT/ CONs: • nothing really --- we really enjoyed our experience and we would love to maybe go back in the future…
