The fort is in the middle of nowhere! So it is a pleasant surprise to enter and see the luxury. Food is unexpectedly delicious! Staff is friendly and courteous. Rooms are nice, large and spacious. Evening fold dances are interesting. A little more about the history, local culture and crafts should be provided to the guests. Great place to relax...

This is the only hotel in luni, a small village not far from Jodphur. The rooms are clean but basic, furniture is old and not very comfortable, but not small. We had no hot water during our visit and electricity fell down 10 times in 2 days. Breakfast is buffet when there are enough guests otherwise they serve at the...

It is a misnomer to call it a ‘fort’ – it is the former residence of Maharaj Dalip Singh and is described as the ‘fortress palace’. Once it was converted into a heritage hotel, new wings were added to complement the existing rooms. Therefore, there are a number of courtyards that you navigate to reach your room in case you...

Fort Chanwa is a wonderful surprise; after driving through narrow village lanes the gates open. You are welcomed into this historical fort which provides a wonderful setting for a change of pace from an India that can become hectic if not frantic. We stayed in heritage rooms which had a "galley" joining them that provided a meeting place to sit...

As your transport squeezes through mud lanes to reach the Fort you wonder where you are going - but once through the huge wooden gates, you are in an oasis. The gardens are lovely and if you get the chance, sit outside your room in one of the leafy, grassed courtyards, sipping a beer, watching the parrots in the trees...

How lucky I was to be told about this wonderful gem. Because of this I made my stay longer and was able to fully acknowledge and enjoy the rich history of this beautiful fortress. It was a welcome break from a busy schedule where I was able to indulge not only in the best evening entertainment I have ever seen...

Fort Chanwa is beautifully done up over a huge area with lush gardens. The property rooms are done up tastefully. The swimming pool was a disaster but luckily there was a pool table to keep us entertained. The evenings can be enjoyed with live music from the local village music and dance troop. We also enjoyed the puppet show. the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Fort Chanwa Luni is Located in the village of Chanwa. Below is the brief description about the history attached along with this Historical Venue. Maharaja Jaswant Singh II Ruler of Jodhpur, Marwar from 1876-1895 A.D is remembered as a benevolent Monarch who steered the administration and economy of the state away from chaos and instability to a period of sustained development, security and justice for all. Amongst the prominent civil servants in this Ruler's coterie of administrators, was a young Charan by the name of KavirajMuraridanji. He was an astute politician and a farsighted administrator. In 1894 KavirajMuraridanji received in Jagir the little known hamlet of Chanwa. There he builds an exquisite little fortified haveli, today known as Heritage Hotel Fort Chanwa. In 1941, however the village of Chanwa became "Khalsa" (belonging to the State) as, ironically Muraridanji fell victim to a law introduced by him in the best interest of Marwar, whereby feudal estates lacking a male successor and without a recognized adoption in the life time of the deceased Jagirdar were automatically resumed by the state, after his death. In the year 1948 Chanwa was granted in "Jagir" to MaharajDalip Singh, the youngest son of Maharaja Umaid Singh. ... more   less
