Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed at Mount Michael Lodge for 2 nights in early January 2023 as part of a trip around the South Island. Fiona and Alistair were wonderful hosts, striking the perfect balance of friendly and professional. The accommodation was outstanding, the perfect venue for a stay in the Central Otago region. A highlight of our stay was the wine tour Alistair arranged and hosted for us. Alistair listens to what types of wine interests you and designs a bespoke experience. His personal relationships with the wineries and restaurants in the region make for a very memorable day. Alongside this Alistair also makes his own wine and as such is extremely knowledgeable and happy to answer questions, simple or detailed. Would not hesitate to recommend. David and Susan.

Thank-you Fiona and Alistair (and the gorgeous Cooper) for sharing your stunning location and house. We stayed in the spa lodge self-contained accomodation which had everything you need for a luxurious stay. Your attention to detail, care and excellent facilities made it a wonderful stay. After a day of cycling the Lake Dunstan trail (recommended) the spa and a bottle of Otago Pinot Noir was simply bliss.

Excellent accommodation. Beautiful views, especially this time of year when the leaves are golden. There is a self contained suite, which has own ensuite, laundry, mini fridge and outdoor spa facilities. Good level of privacy even as the hosts stay on the same property. The hosts were lovely. Excellent location if you're wanting to spend a good amount of time visiting the wineries around Central Otago. Good restaurants short drive away. Would stay here again.

My lovely wife and I stayed four nights between Christmas and New Years. We stayed in the room with it's own spa, which is well worth getting, if you can. Everything about Mt Michaels is superb. From the luxurious sheets on the bed, the delicious breakfasts, the incredibly large rooms and adjoining bathroom and change room, the sensational views to all the appointments that you will thoroughly enjoy. However, without a doubt, the best part of staying at Mt Michaels Lodge is the care and concern shown to all guests by Fiona and Alistair. If you have the opportunity book your accommodation now. You will be thoroughly glad you did. If you can find anywhere better to stay, anywhere, I strongly suggest you buy it!

Fiona and Alistair have got it nailed here! We spent two nights here and wanted for nothing. Fabulous big room with casual seating area and TV etc. There is a washing machine, tumble drier and an iron with ironing board. Lovely clean outdoor pool and really good cycles to borrow too. The breakfasts were just perfect (Fiona is happy to get you whatever you like). Our hosts were interested in making our stay enjoyable - and they achieved that with gold stars.

We had a fabulous time at Mt Michael. Everything was perfect, but especially the food and our hosts. We would highly recommend taking advantage of Fiona's amazing cooking skills by enjoying dinner at the lodge (which for us was amazing fresh fish and vegetables straight from the garden). The room was lovely with beautiful views and an amazing private outdoor spa. Location is great, being far enough away for peace and quiet yet close enough to access everything to see and do in the area. Thank you so much for a very enjoyable stay!

We had a wonderful two days at the Mt. Michael Lodge in the Pisa Room during December 2018 on our honeymoon. Fiona and Alistair were incredibly welcoming and we loved getting to know them. The views from the property are gorgeous and we were very comfortable in our large room. Fiona and Alistair recommended a great restaurant for our first night there (and arranged pickup and drop-off through the restaurant as well, which was amazing!) and were so kind to cook for us on our second night, which happened to be Christmas eve. The lodge has a great location and is a quick bike ride or drive to the vineyards in Cromwell, or a short drive to Bannockburn and the wineries along Felton Road. We enjoyed touring around the area but also spent a lot of time relaxing by the pool or on the porch outside our room. Breakfast was exceptional both days. We hope to be back in the future!!!
