My lovely wife and I stayed four nights between Christmas and New Years. We stayed in the room with it's own spa, which is well worth getting, if you can. Everything about Mt Michaels is superb. From the luxurious sheets on the bed, the delicious breakfasts, the incredibly large rooms and adjoining bathroom and change room, the sensational views to all the appointments that you will thoroughly enjoy. However, without a doubt, the best part of staying at Mt Michaels Lodge is the care and concern shown to all guests by Fiona and Alistair. If you have the opportunity book your accommodation now. You will be thoroughly glad you did. If you can find anywhere better to stay, anywhere, I strongly suggest you buy it!

Excellent accommodation. Beautiful views, especially this time of year when the leaves are golden. There is a self contained suite, which has own ensuite, laundry, mini fridge and outdoor spa facilities. Good level of privacy even as the hosts stay on the same property. The hosts were lovely. Excellent location if you're wanting to spend a good amount of time visiting the wineries around Central Otago. Good restaurants short drive away. Would stay here again.

Thank-you Fiona and Alistair (and the gorgeous Cooper) for sharing your stunning location and house. We stayed in the spa lodge self-contained accomodation which had everything you need for a luxurious stay. Your attention to detail, care and excellent facilities made it a wonderful stay. After a day of cycling the Lake Dunstan trail (recommended) the spa and a bottle of Otago Pinot Noir was simply bliss.

We stayed at Mount Michael Lodge for 2 nights in early January 2023 as part of a trip around the South Island.

Fiona and Alistair were wonderful hosts, striking the perfect balance of friendly and professional. The accommodation was outstanding, the perfect venue for a stay in the Central Otago region.

A highlight of our stay was the wine tour Alistair arranged and hosted for us. Alistair listens to what types of wine interests you and designs a bespoke experience. His personal relationships with the wineries and restaurants in the region make for a very memorable day. Alongside this Alistair also makes his own wine and as such is extremely knowledgeable and happy to answer questions, simple or detailed.

Would not hesitate to recommend.

David and Susan.

Fiona and Alistair have got it nailed here! We spent two nights here and wanted for nothing. Fabulous big room with casual seating area and TV etc. There is a washing machine, tumble drier and an iron with ironing board. Lovely clean outdoor pool and really good cycles to borrow too. The breakfasts were just perfect (Fiona is happy to get you whatever you like).
Our hosts were interested in making our stay enjoyable - and they achieved that with gold stars.

With stunning views of Lake Dunstan and the mountains, you will find Mt Michael Lodge about 50 minutes drive from Queenstown airport. Words cannot describe the feel and look of this stunning boutique B&B situated in a private vineyard. If you are feeling energetic, 45 parallel is a step away, there are push bikes at your disposal, the property has an outdoor heated pool and spa. Each room has an ensuite, a kitchenette, free wifi, free parking and breakfast is included. Be prepared to go trout fishing (optional) if weather permits with your charming host Alistair, and get to know your charming hostess Fiona who is also a fabulous cook. Spend at least 3-4 nights to explore the region.

The Mt. Michael Lodge was the most perfect start to our longish NZ holiday. Less than an hour outside of Queenstown, you are at the doorstep of that bustle if you want it, but also in the quiet tranquility of a small-town vineyard and steps away from some of the best Pinot Noir tasting rooms, great walks, beautiful vistas, and lovely drives. The Lodge itself is both private and welcoming. Fiona and Alistair are brilliant hosts, who provide spectacular food (book Fiona's dinner!) and great touring advice. Everything on Fiona's table was homemade, fresh, and divine. The bed was perfect, and the views from the bed spectacular, even when the winter fog was rolling in. (Also, try the spa when the winter moon is rising!) Stay here!

If you look up "bed and breakfast" in a dictionary, there will be a photo of Mt. Michael Lodge. Every detail managed by Fiona and Alistair is done to perfection. They were such a joy to be around, it was like staying with family. They were quick to sit and talk with us, sharing stories about life in New Zealand. The beautiful grounds are in the middle of a private vineyard, owned by them and several adjacent property owners.
We were a party of six, occupying four rooms, and all of us found great things. The rooms were spacious, with one of us getting the self-contained suite with a washer and dryer. (Allow time for the drying, however.) They have a nice-sized pool and hot tub that we enjoyed.
When we arrived in late afternoon, Fiona and Alistair were already working on an arrival dinner, featuring BBQ'd chicken and sumptuous salmon coated in panko. Carrots and potatoes from their garden, plus a salad rounded out the dinner. I'm not sure if dinner is part of the first night routine, but it sure hit the spot with us.
The breakfasts for our three mornings were to die for. Fresh berries from their bushes were the highlight, but the omelets, poached eggs, bacon, and pancakes were all delicious. Did I mention, Alistair maintains a huge garden, and they grow almost all of the fruits and vegetables they serve? He even grafts his own tomato plants. Fiona is an outstanding chef and proudly showed off her library of cookbooks.
Alistair knows his wine and loves Central Otago Pinot Noir. He customized a winery tour and tasting in the region for one of us.
On our departure day, they filled us with ideas of stops to view as we continued our journey over to the West Coast. Everything was right on target, including the suggestion to try the whitebait sandwiches from a street cart in Haast.
Mt. Michael is not large, but that is part of its charm. I highly recommend it for anyone staying in the Cromwell-Wanaka area.
