Rented the large bungalow for 2 days. Bungalow situated with road to cross before entering beach. Very well laid out bungalow. Place is extremely quiet, and there is not much to do there. Cafe across road very mundane. You have to drive +10km to get to a restaurant (and they all close real early). The place is nice enough, just a bit boring. No wifi, no reception for mobile phone, no tv.

Amazing spot in the Daintree on Thornton Beach.. bungalows are small and cosy, but is exactly what we expected.. Great service, beach only 60 odd steps away.. Secluded and stunning. Noah's beach a nice walk away as well.. You can't go wrong with this place so just book it quick as the full up fast..

I travelled up to cape trib earlier this week with my partner and spent 2 wonderful days staying at the Thornton beach bungalows. Amazing location - surrounded by forest and across the road from Thornton beach. You go to sleep listening to the waves and rainforest animals. Also really convenient for both cape trib and the daintree.
Karen was really helpful and recommended some activities for us before we got there, and then helped arranged a kayaking tour with paddle trek.
Would definitely recommend!

My husband and I and our daughter stayed at Thornton beach house for six nights and it was just beautiful. A perfect position central to all the activities the Daintree has to offer. Karen and Drew were most welcoming and helpful with suggestions of things to do and bookings. The house was a nice open plan living space, an easy space to relax and feel at home, well equipped for self catering. If you can't live without live t.v. and phone service then it may not be the ideal place for you, but to us it was a blissful retreat. A great range of dvd movies were supplied and enjoyed as well as a good range of reading material.. Proximity to Thornton beach meant it was so easy to enjoy long beach walks and the cafe across the road where you could sit with a coffee or glass of wine and enjoy the beach view was a bonus. The garden area bordered by rainforest was a lovely place to relax and listen to the birds. We would definitely return.

We spent three nights in the Beach house with my young children. The house was lovely and spacious. It was clean, well appointed and very comfortable. The house was situated amongst a beautiful garden and partly surrounded by forest. My children loved playing in the garden and watching the beautiful blue Ulysses butterflies flying around it. The side of the house was all louver windows which made it cool and breezy as well as making us feel if we were part of the surroundings. It was across from a sublime beach. The owners, Karen and Drew, were extremely helpful and helped book tours and gave us great advice. it was a real treat staying here and I would definitely stay again.

My husband and I stayed 3 nights here, the location is very good, on the main road opposite a lovely beach. There is a cafe across the road where you can buy all your meals, but it closes at around 5/6pm. The bungalow was very clean and tidy with an en suite bathroom. Our only issue was the bungalow was a bit too small. There is not much room for luggage. In the room there is a small jug for tea and coffee, plates, dishes, utensils, and a chilly bin which you need to supply ice for. I think that the larger house on site would be more comfortable if staying longer than 1 night.

We stayed 3 nights in the large house which is situated behind the two petite bungalows. We loved this place, and it was the perfect size for our family. The house is modern, clean and spacious, using solar power and rain water to ensure minimal impact to the surrounding pristine rainforest. The location in the heart of the Daintree is ideal, with a stunning beach just across the road (just out of sight behind some trees) and the forest a few metres behind.

The house has two good-sized bedrooms and a couple of day beds, and can easily sleep 6 or more people. The louvres throughout the building ensure that the outside breeze and sounds of nature fill the house - although this did mean that during the winter it did get a little cold at night. This was especially true of the bathroom - which had no windows (only flyscreens) - which did mean that it was particularly cool in there - the screen from the bathroom into the garden was also a little flimsy and perhaps the installation of a proper door here would be a good addition. Also note - if you are arachnophobic beware of the bathroom at night!

As there is only solar power here, there are limited appliances (no microwave for example), but the kitchen is otherwise well equipped with a good-sized fridge to allow you to stock up on food (there are few dining options nearby, and the cafe across the road is limited in its options). It is also worth mentioning that there is no TV signal, internet or mobile phone coverage here - so you are quite isolated from the outside world - although of course, that's part of the attraction of coming here!

The garden is a good sized with plenty of seats and a BBQ, so if you do come with a larger group or have some visitors it is perfect for entertaining and letting the kids run around. The owners are friendly and live not too far away and are happy to help with any advice and booking of tours. We booked on the local crocodile viewing boat tour, and saw a few big crocs (don't forget your mozzie repellent though!).

Overall, this was a great family base to explore the region and if you do get the chance to spend a few nights in the Daintree it is a great experience to see all that this area has to offer, particularly in the mornings and evenings away from the tours that come through during the day. I would highly recommend staying at Thornton Beach House which truly felt like a home away from home during our all-too-short stay here.

We rented the villa at Thornton Beach Bungalows for 2 nights - there's only 1 villa (2 bedrooms, sleep 6) positioned right at the back of two bungalows.

Great facilities, fully equipped kitchen and large outdoor area with gas BBQ.

The beach is just a short walk away - great tropical beach HOWEVER you really don't want to go for a swim as there are salt water crocodiles swimming around the place ;-)

Overall a great spot to spend a couple of days as you explore the Daintree and Cape Tribulation!

We stayed 2 nights at thornton beach bungalows and loved it. The location is amazing just across the road from the most beautiful beach, which felt like a desert island as we walked along it.
The bungalow is small, a bedroom which is also a kitchen and a wardrobe, the use of space is so clever, and a great shower in the bathroom. Lovely products left for us to use, my hair was so soft after using them.
It is so very peaceful, no phones, no internet, we sat on the verandah watching fire flies and the stars come out, listening to the sounds of the night, which included the ocean rolling in. We spoke to each other more than we usually do!!
We also went on the discovery cruise, Alan who took us on the boat was so informative, it made it even better. We were cruising along when a massive croc decided to go for a swim, heading straight for us, so Alan carefully manouvered the boat out of his way! Thanks karen for booking in advance for us.
If you want to get away from it all, give these bungalows a try, we definitely recommend them.
