After reading all the glowing reviews we were very disappointed. We paid for a deluxe room, ocean view and a/c. It was very tiny with an old double bed that sunk in the middle and two flat pillows. The pool was cloudy and scummy. The beach was filthy, it looked like a garbage dump. All this would have been forgivable...

My coworkers and I stayed at the Hotel Carara for two nights on a weekend beach trip and had a wonderful time. I had a room with a balcony looking towards the water and was thrilled when I woke up, walked out, and heard the macaws right overhead! The view from my balcony was incredible. We were a short walk...

This hotel was a positive experience. Friendly staff and a short walk to beach behind hotel. I enjoyed reading a book in the backyeard under a tree next to the beach listening to the waves of the Pacific Ocean. After I saw a leaf fall down near me I looked up and saw a Scarlet Macaw on the branch of...

The restaurant was amazing as you could see the beach. The food (both breakfast and dinner) was great also. The dinner was very cheap and the breakfast included in the price. The pool was large and it never seemed busy. The rooms were a decent size and were comfortable. This is a great location if you are travelling from Monteverde...

I stayed here for a night back in 2009. I was on a service trip and we spent a couple days in Tarcoles enjoying the beach and seeing the crocodiles. This was a nice little place with a nice, but rocky beach, an ample pool, and beautiful views. If I ever went back to Costa Rica, I wouldn't hesitate to...

The Hotel Carara is situated right on the beach in a lovely setting, with the sound of the sea and the cries of scarlet macaws and other exotic birds adding genuine atmosphere for the hotel's guests. The rooms are a good size and very comfortable, but the air conditioning is in need of updating. However, this should not put you...

We stayed here while going on the local crocodile tour. While the area around the hotel was unexceptional, the hotel itself was clean, comfortable, friendly and welcoming. Nice pool area and convenient restaurant too.

My husband and I stayed 3 nights at this hotel around Christmas. We had booked a room with air-conditioning with a balcony view, but there was some confusion over the request, and we ended up getting a room without a balcony. The Balcony rooms are brighter. Other than that, the rooms seem to be the same size. The air-conditioning worked...

This is a wonderful little Tico (what the people of Costa Rica call themselves) hotel. Forget the big resorts! If you want to see a little of the real Costa Rica, this is the place. It's not fancy, but it's clean and functional. You can choose air conditioning, or not, the choice is yours. The shower is a little tricky...
