Diphlu River Lodge is the only lodge at Kaziranga National Park that is situated right at the border of the park. We offer all-inclusive stays from three to ten days. Our well-trained naturalists take you out into the park by jeep, elephant or even on foot. We also offer jungle and river walks, village visits and boat rides on the Brahmaputra river where you may also get to view the rare Gangetic River Dolphin. With only twelve twin-bedded cottages, eight of which are individual and four semi-detached, Diphlu River Lodge is intimate in size and built using natural materials (like bamboo, thatch, etc.). Besides comfortable beds, each cottage has a pleasant sit-out as well as a writing desk, mini-bar and a small fridge. A complimentary selection of tea and coffee and an electric kettle is also at hand for when you need a cuppa. The bathroom has a rain shower and a roomy dressing area with a fitted wardrobe.

NOT A QUITE JUNGLE RESORT. Not peaceful at night, everything is good but a group of boys playing loud music and singing at night starting from 09 pm till midnight, we had morning safari but we couldn't sleep peacefully on the night of 30 November 2023. Restaurant staff are very good they took care of us like a family. Restaurant staff is very professional. I only liked the rooms and restaurant. At night Diphlu River Lodge is not peaceful.

We were participating in a meeting and had the opportunity to stay in Diphlu river lodge. The ideal lodge to stay in Kaziranga. First and foremost , build most appropriately for location using local material and without disturbing the land . The staff experience was remarkable with most off them coming from the villages close by. The enthusiasm is very evident in all the staff and each of them are stakeholders. Kaziranga being world heritage site and one of the best locations to view the Indian rhinos and wild water buffaloes. All the birdlife is varied.

Well, first of all, ours was a last minute reservation because of a bad experience at another accommodation. So, we were really really grateful at being able to find a room at the last minute. We were told upfront that we would need to spend the last night in another room. When asked if anything would be different in that room, we were told that the room would be identical, but just share a wall with another room. Fair enough, we thought. But the second room was half the size of the first. The bathroom was half the size. The upkeep was nowhere near the first room we had - so that was a terrible disappointment. It cost the same and the staff NEVER mentioned the difference in the room size. They apologized for it, but our experience was ruined. For a resort this expensive, we thought that it was verrrry odd that the safari vehicle was a rundown, generic vehicle - no branding of the resort anywhere and super uncomfortable. The first evening, there was also a huge tyre under the seat, which made seating uncomfortable. We also had to ask the driver to slow down a few times, since we were holding on for dear life on the highway. It seemed very unsafe that he was breaking speed rules. The resort advertises that the internet connection is weak because they're in the middle of nowhere.... Ummm.... they're right by the highway. That's not the middle of nowhere. I didn't understand why the internet was so spotty there! We've stayed in a way more remote location in Assam and we had excellent internet connection there. I do have to mention that most of the staff was great. The restaurant staff took really good care of us. Rahul, in the restaurant, was super nice. Julie, at the spa, was probably the best massage therapist I've ever had. Simply amazing! Overall, I think Diphlu is overrated and not worth the money they charge. It's a pretty resort, with some very nice elements, but we've stayed at another resort in the area earlier, that was way way better and much less expensive. …

I'm late with this review but review this property I must so here goes. This was our first time in Assam & it happened to be my birthday as well. We stayed for 4 nights here & I can't fault anything- from the cottages to the food, service ,safaris everything was exemplary . We had planned on booking a river front room but they were already sold out.The manager, Mr. Bijoy Baruah assured my husband that he would do the best he could & he delivered. We were given the corner cottage ( I think it was 9) with a view of the river & we were really happy with our room....these rooms are in fact bigger than the river front rooms. The cottages are rustic & beautifully done up with the arts & crafts of the North East. Bed was great & bathrooms comfortable. The balcony in Machan looking out onto the river was my favourite place to be in our non safari hours....just sipping coffee & watching the birds on the river, oh ! I miss it just thinking of it. We found the food to be substantial & good with more hits than misses. On my birthday they surprised us with a special table on the terrace romantically lit up with lots of candles & plants. The plated food was delicious & the ambience wonderful. The outdoor lunch on the riverside is one of the must do's. The lodge surrounds are pretty, our room faced the rice paddies & everything was so lush & green. Assam is so green & the Kaziranga NP is one of the most beautiful forests in India- huge waterbodies, in Feb Flame of the forest flowers everywhere, cute Rhinos & even cuter baby elephants dotting the landscape....we enjoyed all our safaris & our naturalist was very good at spotting not just the bigger animals but the birds & reptiles too. In our four days there we also took a nice walk in the forest with our naturalist Diganta which was fun too. Another must do is the river cruise on the mighty Bhramaputra River. We took the early morning slot & after a lovey drive through winding roads surrounded by tea gardens we reached the jetty & transferred to their very comfortable motor boat. Luckily the skies were overcast that day making the river look even more beautiful & serene with playful Dolphins accompanying us partway. The staff very ably spearheaded by Bijoy Baruah were great....nothing was ever too much trouble. My husband loves fish so they made sure that there was always a portion of fish on our table including the fish from the Bhramaputra river. And then on our last evening we got chatting with some other guests who had checked in earlier & they turned out to be the owners of the property. We really enjoyed meeting such a lovely couple. No wonder the place has such happy vibes ! Thank you so much Bijoy & to everyone of the staff. We hope to return someday ! …

Pleasant stay and lovely rhino sightings! Couple things which can be improved are presentation of food; we ordered continental and the sides were the same every day, the rooms too can do with a little more improvement in the decor! The safari jeeps are completely runned down which definitely needs to be cleaner and more comfortable. I am also comparing these to the Taj safaris in MP which are fab and and similar costs! But yes over all lovely green lush property and nice to visit for a couple of days. I must point out Gaurav who was very helpful and nice, so was the staff. Said the above our check out process was ruined by the manager Nabajit Sarma who had a chip on his shoulder and actually sounded arrogant from the start. At check out we were handed a porforma invoice and on asking why , he didn't react very well and mentioned we will get the gst invoice later. There was also a mistake in the billing and we had to contact head office for that as well. So my suggestion is that they should have someone to address these concerns at the resort irltself and not make their guests wait for an invoice and wrong biling. Even when we checked in , as we had missed the resort I had reached the property and told him they must have a sign board to which his simple reaction was we don't need one and the guests can just call! In that case why run a resort! Also that they don't take any last minute check in, but when we wanted a room for someone vising, they gave us the room immediately without us even contacting the head office for a booking! So why the attitude????!!!! Found it weird. THIS IS THE REASON FOR 3 STARS. …

Excellent accommodation very clean and well appointed. Staff are very helpful and keen to make the stay as comfortable as possible. Placed just outside the game park means that the journey in is not to long. Lots of Rhinos in this area with buffaloes and elephants. Rooms are up on stilts around the edge of a paddy field. Food and attention to detail in the restaurant were really great.

Kaziranga National Park is an out of the world place! We were totally blown away by the flora, fauna and variety of animals! What made the experience richer was staying at Dhiplu River Lodge! We had heard so much good about this place and we must admit it was beyond our expectations! To have the luxury of great beds, 24hrs hot water, air conditioning, Wi-Fi at a remote place such as this ,was fabulous! It’s a rustic, earthy place with warm friendly staff, great food and well curated activities, making the stay worth the time and money! The safaris were accompanied by their expert naturalist who carried their binoculars. Without the naturalist and the binoculars one will be deprived of fully experiencing Kaziranga in all its glory! Must visit place according to us!

A wonderful experience. Classic rattan & local textiles set you in a place to remember. Amazing in house naturalist came to Kaziranga with us and was excellent at spotting birds and wildlife. Remarkable group of singers each evening at sunset set a special ambiance. Small, curated gift shop. Authentic and local items at a reasonable cost. Very good food. Especially enjoyed our outdoor lunch by the river with elephants. Elevates entire experience of being in a special place. People who work here as well as villagers were friendly and without artifice.

Response from Bijoy Baruah, General Manager at Diphlu River Lodge
Responded 16 Apr 2023
Dear Tess, Thank you so much for appreciating all the various aspects of Diphlu River Lodge that make it special. We love that you noticed and appreciated our singers: we typically alternate between all-male & all-female troupes from the local community naamghar (a prayer hall) and they sing borgeet (Assamese devotional songs composed in the 15th century). It's a beautiful experience and a very important tradition of the daily life of the Assamese community. Thank you for appreciating our gift shop too. I wonder if you had the chance to visit our in-house weaving unit adjacent to the Lodge? There, you'll find our team of local weavers on wooden handlooms preparing some of the most exquisite mekhela chadors, saris and soft furnishings for the home, which we then sell in our gift shop. I'll certainly pass on your compliments to our chef, who loves to show off indigenous food from his riverine tribe too! And lastly, we love your comment that the people you encountered on this trip were without artifice. This is indeed the Assamese way. We once had a guest remark that she had never met people who looked as genuinely happy as they did, and this stayed with us just as your comment will. Thank you again and we hope to welcome you again soon. Best regards, Diphlu team

Stayed here 3 nights for safari in Kaziranga NP. This was an idyllic location along the river with either individual or adjoined cottages that were comfortable, clean and provided nice space to relax after a long day. The shower was large and encased all in glass giving you the feel of being outdoors but in complete privacy with lots of hot water and a heavenly rain shower-head. The main dining lodge was a wonderful place to observe more wildlife while watching the river and eating a delicious meal. The staff was excellent and provided a high level of service. Would highly recommend staying here if visiting Kaziranga!

Overall a pleasant and productive stay at the Diphlu river lodge. Everyone did their best to ensure a great experience for us. Amenities, food and safari drives were all excellent. We’re grateful for the hospitality of everyone in the staff. Exemplary management from Mr. Bijoy Baruah. We will return and will recommend to friends and family. The only suggestion I have is to make sure that you match an English speaking naturalist with the guest that speaks English. My teen/ young adult kids know English and do not speak Hindi; they felt that they could not get the best out of their Safari experience as our driver/ naturalist spoke Hindi and very little English. Thanks

Response from Bijoy Baruah, General Manager at Diphlu River Lodge
Responded 16 Apr 2023
Dear Sree, Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We're so glad to know you found your stay with us wholly satisfactory on all levels. Thank you as well for your suggestion - our guides are all local boys from nearby villages and their English skills could sometimes show a lack of confidence on their part as they may sometimes naturally revert back to Hindi, which is a language they're more comfortable with. I will, however, certainly be helping them build their confidence in English to ensure a better experience for all our guests. Thank you so much again, and we do hope you're able to visit us again. Best regards, Bijoy Baruah Lodge Manager
