Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Good study place. The University of Sydney, the school of choice for my postgraduate studies, has been a very unusual experience for me. Beautiful campus, professional lecturers are the keys to ensure that I get sufficient knowledge.

Stayed here over New Years as every hotel / hostel was booked or ridiculously priced! We found this was our cheapest option and considering it’s a bit away from the harbour we managed to get about pretty easily. The accomodation was very basic with just a double bed in the room and a wardrobe, shared bathrooms in the corridor but always toilet/shower available. Breakfast was included in another building very basic. Main problem was there was nowhere to park our car unless we wanted to pay $50 a day so we had to find a public car park and then walk back and forth to the accomodation personally I think parking should be included. Other than this we didn’t spend much time in the room only to sleep so worked out well for us. Very basic so if you like luxuries don’t stay here, but if you literally need a bed this is fine

Had to wait over an hour after check-in time while we waited for our room to be cleaned. Then when we got to our room it was terrible. Firstly there was no air conditioning and so it was horribly hot and uncomfortable. The bathroom was filthy, huge handprint on the mirror and the sink has dirty. The sheets on the bed felt plastic. Was supposed to have basic kitchenette facilities but that was an old dirty microwave and a couple plates. Could not even fill the kettle from the bathroom as it would not fit! Would never stay there again, it was badly organised and they did not seem to care.

Arrived to find the bathroom was in desperate need of a clean. Grime & filth in the shower & basin. Toilet with marks & floaties! Disgusting. Fortunately staff moved us to another room. It was cleaner but still not what you expect at a hotel. I know this is student accommodation but you expect cleanliness when you’re paying $130 a night. Odd smell in hallway & room. Pillows were paperthin & matress was uncomfortable. The only saving grace was the helpful staff however I will never stay here again.

I stayed in a studio apartment on the top floor. There is no AC and no heating. No microwave. Despite paying $100 cleaning fee before moving in, there were marks on the wall and what can only be described as organic debris on the bed frame. (Hair and such). It can also get quite noisy at night with parties and such both within the village and from the adjacent collages. Not having running hot water for around a day or so has been a bit of an issue in the latter half of the year as well. I would recommend this place as an undergrad looking to have fun. However, if you're at Uni to actually get some real work done I would move literally anywhere else.

I have been to the Sydney university village on december 2016. I requested for swap room during the period as I found many small cockroaches in the toilet area, as well as in the living area. I had requested to swap room for the following date, but the condition of another room still the same. The village management team did pay very little attention on the hygiene issues of the room that i have booked, even they claimed in e mail the cleaning process for the room had been finished. It is pretty hot in the summer time for a room without air con in sydney, Australia. Hence, it must be consider well before booking the room of sydney university village, as the price is not cheap in compare to alternative accommodation in sydney.

When reading this review it is important to know that we stayed in January the hottest month in Sydney. Over the 3 days we stayed here the temp was 36 to 40 degrees. This location is normally student accommodation, but "transforms" into a hotel during the 3 month uni shut down at the end of the year. Most of the furnishings are very old, worn and what you would expect has been abandoned at the end of a uni year. We had two rooms and both rooms the chair was so badly worn and torn you could see large patches of the whitish inner stuffing of the chair. There was also an ottoman in each room, the type that the top comes off and you can use for storage. These were fake leather type ottomans, they were also terribly worn with the covers peeling away to expose the inner stuffing. In room 116 (a double en-suite room) we found crushed potato chips inside the ottoman. There is no hand soap or face washer. There was a constant supply of baby cockroaches in both rooms. There was a ceiling fan in both rooms but in the peak of Summer - which is the only time this place is a hotel and not a uni dorm the ceiling fan is all by useless. Our rooms were so incredibly hot it was impossible to sleep. I've stayed in many hotel, guest houses, back packers, resorts, even cube hotels and this is only the 2nd location that didn't provide air conditioning - the other was when we stayed with a native tribe in the hills of Malaysia. Even a back packers has air conditioning. There is no parking at this location. Parking was a bit of a hit and miss with one staff member suggesting we park under the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. When we drove around to this parking lot there is a price list - $10 PER HOUR. Refusing to pay this we went back to the hotel and asked again, vague directions were given and on following the directions (take a right at the lights and right again) we ended up in a different parking lot for the hospital, it has a daily rate of $25. But is open air and there is a clinic between the hotel and this parking lot. I'm not sure what this clinic does but each of the 3 days we stayed there were new piles of vomit to avoid on the foot path. We will never stay here again, if it had air conditioning the hotel would ok. But for the money, the bugs, lack of soap and furniture so worn you wouldn't be able to gift it to a charity, it is a no from us. There are some nice features The building is beautiful. There is a mini fridge in the ensuite rooms. There are towels, a little bottle of shampoo and conditioner. There is a great 7/11 nearby.

We booked into St john's college, university of Sydney, over the new year period. The university lets out rooms during the holiday period. The room was comfortable with en suite facilities, no air con but it did have a fan. Overall it was excellent value for money and the breakfast was very good too.

Lovely place to stay, shame about the selfish people who are staying there who like to set the fire alarm of at least once if not twice a night in the early hours. They also like to make a lot of noise during the night, especially if they have been out. I know it's not the uni's fault but they should kick them out as it's unfair. However the uni moved us which was a fair enough compromise. There's a kitchenette which is ok if your staying for a couple of days, but there's only so many times you can have beans or soup. You often have to ask for some new plates and cup as they go quite quickly. Other than that it was a good value place to stay, free tea and coffee, shower goodies and towels. The $10 breakfast the chief cooks is also pretty awesome to!

This hotel is located just off King Street In Newtown, a street with great restaurants, shops and character. It is easy enough to find although finding somewhere to park while checking in can be a bit of a hassle. As I was staying there on the weekend I thought that parking may be free on the streets as their website says that parking can be purchased during the week. But parking on the nearby streets in four hour parking until 10pm on the Saturday night. I asked the staff about parking but they didn't really seem sure about what my parking options were so I ended up paying $15 for the day to park with them. The room was a decent size and although the hallways smelled badly of mildew the room was okay - especially after I opened the windows (which do not have fly screens). There was a towel and toiletries but no bath mat or face washers etc provided. The reception area did provide a map and luckily an after hours number to contact should I have an issues. I went out to my friend's party and when I returned (at 130am) I couldn't get into my room - the key wouldn't work. So I had to call the number and the after hours person came up promptly to let me in. In the morning the having a shower the tap handle came off the hot water tap and I managed to put it back and have a shower. I then went to leave and as it was before office hours I needed to return my key to reception but because my key did not work i could not follow the instructions to leave it in the office and yet again had to call the after hours person. Overall I think that the accommodation is okay if you just want a bed and don't mind the hassles but for $120 a night it would have been possible to staying somewhere a bit less smelly and with fly screens so you are not at the mercy of the mosquitoes.
