We hosted our small wedding at Fisherman’s Lodge, Maitraya in March 2021. Originally we had booked for February 2021, but due to a COVID lockdown had to postpone until March. Mandy and Michael the property managers could not have been more helpful, absolutely amazing, including assisting us with securing a different caterer at short notice.

We could not have wished for a more helpful couple than Mandy and Michael, they were extremely accommodating and flexible in meeting our requirements. In addition they made sure the property was pristine for us and our guests. Mandy ensured there was enough cutlery, crockery and glasses for our guests (16 in total). The needs of all of our guests that stayed in the Lodge were exceeded!

We hired a small marquee which was erected on the side deck and extra tables and chairs for seated dining inside. Nothing was an issue for Mandy and Michael. Mandys communication was always outstanding, proactive and instantly responsive, and her support was highly appreciated.

If you are looking for a stunning location for a small private wedding, with support and assistance from genuine and sincere property managers, we highly recommend this property.

My wife and I hosted our wedding at Maitraya Estate and stayed at the main house for five nights, all in which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Michael and Mandy were exceptionally accommodating and easy to deal with.

We had a large marquee setup on the side of the main house, generators, toilets, catering and flower deliveries with Michael being heavily involved with coordinating.

It was such a great property and would highly recommend it to anybody. The views go unrivalled. They are just spectacular!

The grounds are well maintained with plenty to do either lakeside or oceanside. Plenty of balls, bikes, rods, pool toys and alike for kids also.

The sauna, spa and pool were great.

A large fridge for events was very helpful and I especially liked the fact it had a secluded wing with its own verandah, kitchen, laundry, family room and bathroom.

The fully equipped theatre room with foxtel was also a winner.

A great time.

We stay at the Fishermans Lodge at least once a year and always have a great time.
The views are breathtaking and we love fishing in the lake and off the beach.
The lodge itself is very comfortable and sleeps up to 10 people easily.
The kitchen is fantastic for a big cook up, and there's pay TV so we don't have to miss the footy.
There's also mobile reception and Wifi.
The upstairs bedroom is superb, with marvellous views of the coastline.
It's a great family venue as our kids like to walk and play outside, while we relax or fish.
For a group of people looking for a comfortable getaway, the lodge is hard to beat!

Upon our arrival items were damaged, dirty and the property wasn't maintained. There was no water for the toilets. There were light fittings missing off the lights in the kitchen and lounge areas, there was a broken drawer in the kitchen, heat mark stains on the dining room table. The bathrooms were extremely tired, missing tap fittings and the shower curtain was old and dirty. Outside the bar fridge is totally rusted, the BBQ is dirty and tap fittings missing. There was no advice about WiFi connectivity.

There was no Covid safe cleaning procedures recorded. The only notice was on the pantry door which was "to close unattended doors as we do get inquisitive snakes" and on departure you "have to clean the premises yourself." This isn't the acceptable standard to be Covid safe.

For $800 a night for 4 people, this was a con job, sadly I admit I was conned.

Overall an incredibly disappointing experience, we refused to stay and left the same day. We are seeking a full refund.

Wow ! What an impressive place this is ! The views out to the ocean are just breathtaking! We stayed 3 nights here and I can definitely say we were pleasantly surprised by this hidden gem . So peaceful and relaxing , it was just what we needed . Getting to relax in the bath with a glass of red and seeing the whales frolicking in the ocean was an added bonus . Clean and tidy , everything that we needed was there . Couldn’t fault it really . Thanks Mandy and Mike

A return visit. This time for a family holiday for 10 adults and 7 grandchildren. This amazing property, with its magnificent accommodation and superb facilities meant that there was something for everyone and everyone had space and serenity. Beautiful surroundings and gardens a myriad of sporting facilities, indoor pool and spa, gym access to a delightful beach. What more can one want during the Summer in Western Australia. Self catering with excellent facilities
Peace, beauty, seclusion, serenity

What a place, three of us stayed in the aviators cottage. If you want you can stay in the BIG House- luxury first class, bring the family. The setting of the property is stunning- set on the Southern Ocean outside of Albany close to two people's bay. The cottage was magical, we were supplied with fresh eggs, fresh bread a bottle of magnificent local wine. We were left in peace to wander and retreat.
See you again in September 2013.

Whilst the main property is of a high standard, unfortunately the Aviators Cottage is not. We chose this property as we flew in and landed in our own plane.
We booked a year in advance and for all that time I was trying to ascertain if there would be an outside table and chairs provided. Some 6 weeks before our arrival as I had not heard back from the owner, as promised, so I called the Manager. I was told that our booking had been cancelled and there was a new Manager. After our stay we sent an email with feedback, read below, and received a very poor, disappointing response. Amongst other comments we were told that there are 3 levels of accommodation, which is not advertised on the website.
Please read:
Hi Mandy
We enjoyed our stay at the Aviator’s Cottage over Christmas and thank you and Mike for transport to collect and return the hire car.
On the positive side: The view was wonderful, peaceful and quiet, open, high ceiling in lounge/kitchen, having a washing machine, and watching wild birds.

After reading about Maitraya, and it being promoted as a luxury retreat, we expected the same standard of facilities and attention to detail as it would seem are provided at the main residence and Fishermen’s Lodge. This was not the case.
We would like to give some feedback as we believe there were things that need attention to make the stay just that bit more pleasant and value for money.
I understand you had just taken over as Managers when I first contacted you so it is no reflection on you that the whole booking process was messy, and on talking with you I discovered the booking had actually been cancelled.

Outside
We made the booking a year in advance and were negotiating for that year to have a dining table and chairs outside. This should be standard equipment, and provided as a matter of course.
Initially Louisa told me we could take the indoor dining table and chairs back and forth. Of course this would be almost impossible, and guests should not be expected to do this. This is a very heavy piece of furniture.
Then when we arrive we find a folding plastic table and plastic chairs. We would expect better than that.
There is a barbeque but no table to put items such as cooking tools, plates, food and condiments. Imagine trying to cook like that. We did and it was very difficult and unsatisfactory.

Lounge area
The ceiling lighting in here is not pleasant. It needs a table lamp or standard lamp in the corner.
Couch cushions need to have velcro or something attaching them to the seat to stop them from sliding out as you sit on them, and having to constantly push them back.
There were only five dining chairs inside.
In the kitchen: as we were going to the shops we asked if there was cling film and got told there was, but when we arrived back at the cottage we found there was none.

Main Bedroom
There needs to be more surface area besides the small chest of drawers to put small items, glasses, jewellery, make up etc. Also hooks would be useful.
The mattress is very hard and not a comfortable night’s sleep. It needs a softer mattress topper.

Second Bedroom
There is no wardrobe and nowhere in here to hang or put anything other than the floor. It needs a shelf and hooks and another set of drawers. Unlike the website photo there is no towel rail in here.
There needs to be a light and switch at the head of the top bunk. At night, trying to get down from the top bunk there is no way to turn on a light to see where you are going. It is impossible to reach the bedside lamp. This is potentially dangerous.
There is not one power point in the room other than the one behind the head of the bunk bed, which is impossible to access.
Placement of bunk bed does not allow window blinds to be easily opened and closed - one has to lie on bottom bunk and try to reach the right cord without being able to see it
All in all: bedroom with bunk beds did not supply the comfort expected for the money we paid.

Bathroom
The sink is just a sink. There is nowhere, other than the floor, to put toiletries, toothbrush, make up etc.
There are no towel rails and just one hook. So where are we meant to put our towels? In the main bedroom we hung them on the wardrobe doors. In the second bedroom they were hung on the foot of the bed.
There is not one power point in the bathroom.

We hope you find this feedback useful, and you are able to implement some of these changes for future guests to enjoy.

RESPONSE: (Not in it's entirety)
One key positive regarding the estate is whilst having a small number of accommodation options we do have three categories covered: Luxury, deluxe and affordable. They are all different and it is my hope they appeal to different people with different needs.
MY REPLY: (Not in it's entirety)
Thanks for your reply which is, unfortunately, very disappointing. Please specify where on the Maitraya website there is a differentiation in the quality of accommodation venues.
I cannot find any reference to the Aviators Cottage being ‘affordable’ and therefore the least expensive of the options.
It would seem that you are suggesting we should have expected a lesser quality accommodation.

RESPONSE:
Thanks for your reply.
I am so sorry you found my email reply disappointing, obviously not my intention.
I had truly hoped to convey we do appreciate all feedback and all constructive comments are valued as tools to assist us in delivering the best accommodation options moving forward.

Firstly, we are glad you did overall enjoy your stay with us. The views are spectacular and the entire estate is so peaceful
and relaxing.
We did read all your suggestions and assessment of the cottage and have made note of all of those comments. The hooks and towel rails are
are easily installed in the immediate. Some of the other points need raising with the owner and a bit of discussion but they were certainly heard
and absolutely appreciated.
Thank you once again for taking the time send through your combined thoughts once again.
Wishing you all the most wonderful week.
MY REPLY:

Once again you have disregarded the most relevant of comments in our latest email also. All this does is add another layer to the dissatisfaction.

NO RESPONSE. Needless to say we feel they have not dealt with this very well. The owner has been included in these emails.

We stayed at the Fisherman's Lodge and we found the views spectacular. The house was presented very well. The house itself was so secluded and relaxing that we hardly ventured out. There was no need to! We did make the short drive to Nanarup Beach which is a great and safe spot for kids to have a swim. Little Beach is not that far away either, but less suitable for small children to swim. On our second day at Fisherman's Lodge we woke up early to watch the sunrise. That was amazing. We also lunched on the deck, which was fantastic. We gave the top floor room to my sister as a birthday present, and she soaked in the tub twice, with the breathtaking view of Taylor's Inlet and the ocean in front of her. We hope to return someday. Worth every cent! Troy and Narelle were great.

We stayed at the Guesthouse area which is part of the main house. The house has everything you need, spa, heated pool and theatre room. The Views are Magnificent and the property is massive. All guests has access to your own private beach and lagoon as well as private lake for kayaking or fishing. The property is a bit dated but overall an excellent estate!
