we stayed here for a week on a dive trip.
I cant highly recommend this place enough!
the staff were super friendly, informative & nothing was an issue.
the room had a great layout - bed to one side, kicthenette to the other side with full cooking utensils & large fridge. the ensuite bathroom was huge & drying racks provided ability to dry clothes. the communal laundry was available if you didnt want to hand wash.
the store next door was conveniently located. and you are so close to the eating options.
we hired a car & there was plenty of space for parking out the front.
i loved the louvered front door - allowing fresh air. air cond inside plus ceiling fans throughout.
i also liked the dining area out the front of the room overlooking the garden - perfect brekkie spot!
this accommodation was perfect & i plan on coming back!!

Our awesome holiday started with a warm greeting by Flynn with an airport pickup. After settling into our apartment, Flynn took us on a free tour of the island, which was very helpful. Seaview Cottages is situated at the south end of West Island, just a short walk to the cafes, grocery store and club and just across the road to the beach wall. Each room is self contained with en-suite and a well stocked kitchenette. The little extras were really helpful like glad wrap, zip lock bags and food storage containers as well has picnic hamper and blanket. There is also access to a communal laundry with all you need to do your laundry right down to the washing powder and a communal kitchen in the gorgeous gardens.

Just posting this review to thank Levi and Belen for being so understanding about us having to cancel our booking in early February . This was due to a covid19 state of emergency in perth and permisison to travel was revoked by the IOT territory.
Levi and Been (via agoda) allowed us a full refund for our 11 night , 3 room booking .
Outstanding customer service is unusual these days as many resorts and airlines do not refund. We would love to re-arrange at some point . thanks so much

Had a fantastic stay with Levi and Belen. Loaned me fishing gear and advised on where to fish, cooked us dinner the first night. Internet vouchers very reasonable. Outdoor kitchen was awesome. Coffee machine was well used, capsules $1 each. Rooms nice and comfortable and great to be able to wash our clothes before our flight. Hosts happy to do anything to make sure you have a great stay. Just make sure you confirm checkout time before your last day. Would go back in a heartbeat. Thank you x

We had heard such great things from former very welcoming property managers so we were disappointed with our experience.
The room was clean and a very comfortable bed and everything was present as advertised. Unfortunately the outside kitchen was quite dirty with some very smelly goods in there. The current property manager and partner seem to have adopted a mentality that we were experienced a few times on the island- meaning we tolerate you but we you aren't really welcome and an inconvenience We don't care if you need anything or your experience could be improved with communication - you get whatever we feel like giving or sharing with you.
Very dirty beaches except on South with beautiful spots like scouts and yacht. Not the tropical beauty I had hoped for. For me this holiday is a disappointment as very expensive and felt more like a 5 star detention island. I will not be back and to be honest will not recommend this island and as soon as the borders are open I will take my money elsewhere, where I feel welcomed and appreciated.

Stayed for a week. Clean with a comfortable bed. Nice verandah outside room and good outdoor meeting place in the garden with BBQ. Unfortunately the hosts were noticeable by their day to day absence and only had basic communication with their guests. You need to disregard comments made in earlier years as they were different hosts. The kitchen is extremely basic. Microwave but no microwave bowls, etc to do anything. No toaster. No hairdryer. Wifi $35 for the week.

We stayed here for one week at the beginning of February, in what is referred to as their low season. It was very quiet with very few tourists around. Weather was lovely, hot & sunny but not humid, a few episodes of rain but those passed over quickly.
We picked Cocos Seaview based on previous reviews / website information, and whilst we enjoyed our stay, it was not quite as expected.
We stayed in the Blue Room, which is the one adjacent to the owner’s accommodation.
We found this room to be dark with little natural light, a glimpse of a sea view, the kitchenette was tiny (whilst very well equipped, the space is more suited as a tea & coffee station rather than self catering) the ceiling fan kept the room cool at nights but on very hot days when we needed to use the air conditioner, it was not that effective.
Our share of the verandah was small and we did not consider it to be that private. (Each room has their own section of the verandah which is separated by a sheet of wooden lattice, but it does not span the whole width)
Location is good, it’s not far to walk into the town, and the Indian Ocean is just 50 metres away (the ocean is not accessible though at this point, there is no beach only a man made wall to sit on)
The highlight of our stay here at CS was Ray’s tour of the island on arrival. He was a great source of information, very helpful with our queries & questions and it was very enjoyable.
The Island residents were very friendly, and always waved to say hi.

A bit about staying on West Island / Cocos.
TO TAKE
Suggested items to take are reef shoes, sunscreen, insect repellant and as much food as you can take within your luggage allowance.
GETTING AROUND / BEACHES
Hire a car. Not all roads are sealed so be prepared for a bumpy ride at times. Recommend Cocos Autos – great customer service here from Helen (we paid $65.00 a day)
The nearest beach is aprox 4kms away (Scout Park)
Whilst the coast line is beautiful, not all of the beaches are accessible.
There are only two beaches marked as “swimming beaches” – Scout Park and Trannies. However, these are shallow, and / or rocky, and not that great for swimming.
A wade over to Pulau Maria Island (snorkelling area here) was disappointing. In the middle of the island was an old “camp site” with rubbish ++.
A ferry runs between West Island and Home Island every day, and detours to Direction Island (good swimming & snorkelling spot) only twice a week (Thursday & Saturday) and leaves you there for aprox. six hours.
Would not consider this a beach holiday destination, but good for water activities such as kite surfing, wind surfing, canoeing, fishing & diving.
FOOD & DRINK
Eating out is extremely limited in venues and opening times. The Tropika (open every day for all meals and serves fabulous fish & chips), Maxi’s By The Sea café (limited opening hours), pizza on a Sunday night at the Cocos Club and Wick’s Café (at the airport) is open for a few hours on a few days only per week.
The supermarket opened 8 – 3 pm (closed on Sunday)
The Cocos Club opened every day at 5 pm (only spot for a drink)
Between 3 pm and 5 pm – there is nothing open.
There is a baker - which only opens when flights are departing, who bakes fabulous bread & brilliant croissants !

Accommodation
Ray and Susan are fantastic. Very welcoming, and happy to assist you with anything. Ray will give you a tour of the island when you arrive, letting you know where it is ok to swim, where all the stores, food places etc are. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Very basic in its contents, but when you have a backyard like they do here who wants to spend any time in the rooms? All your basic cooking utensils, glad wrap, glasses, mugs etc can be found in the rooms. And down in the communal BBQ area, there is more then sufficient items to help get your food cooked. There are ice blocks, back packs, drink bottles etc to allow you to pack a bag for any day trips. There are also plenty of BBQ areas around the island you can set up in for a lunch or dinner, and you will mostly have the area and beach to yourself! We would recommend bringing as much food as you think you will need for your stay, even if it means checking in a second bag. On our flight many of the locals had large polystyrene Eskis filled with food items. Just be mindful of the quarantine restrictions, but in general meat, fruit and vegetables are fine. A lettuce here cost us $9.20 just to put it in perspective. So paying for the extra kgs of food in checked bagged will be worth it.

The Wall
Staying at Cocos Seaview you will very quickly become accustomed to what is known as 'The Wall'. About 5 meters from your accommodation is a concrete wall that looks out on the ocean. While the water here can't be swum in due to the incredible waves breaking over the rocks, and the few Gummy sharks that are floating around, it is still pleasant to sit and ponder the meaning of life. Perfect for watching the sun set, for the first cuppa in the morning, and the night sky is something to be seen. Endless stars, planets, satellites and even the odd shooting star can be seen for miles. Something you do not get living in the city.

Getting Around
There are bikes for you to borrow to cycle around. The island is very flat so it's not too strenuous, but if it's hot and humid, kind of takes the relaxation out of your time away. Scooters and cars are available to hire. Scooter is about $300 for a week and cars are bout $75 a day. Great way to get around and really be able to explore the island. Especially to get up bright and early and catch a sunrise on the other side of the island.

Ray & His Boat
One morning Sue and Ray took us out on their glass bottom boat. We headed out past the shores of Home Island, past Turtle beach, stopped for some snorkeling at the old barge which was AMAZING, then a quick snorkel off the shores of Direction Island. The tides and wind make it difficult to get out on certain days and does restrict the times you can be out for. But the snorkeling around the old barge was well worth the trip. At times there can be dolphins, turtles and rays unfortunately for us we weren't so lucky to see them this time round. While the ferry can take you to Direction Island it was a great experience to snorkel the barge. And Ray is always there to keep you entertain and fill you in with his extensive local knowledge, or some made up stories!

Scrounges Golf
I like to call this afternoon organized chaos. I don't play golf, and not even really good at mini golf, but this afternoon was one of the most entertaining I have had in a very long time. Everyone tees off together, then in teams you take your next shot from the closest to the whole and when you get to the green there are balls going everywhere. But the team captains seemed to know what was going on and who scored what, so you just walk along (with cooler bag supplied by the club), beer in hand, chat to the locals and have a good laugh. And yes the course is right next to the runway which you do have to hit across for 2 wholes, where else in the world can you do that? So if you are around on a Thursday at 3:30pm head on down and have a hit!

While getting to Cocos Keeling Islands can be a journey and flights are not the cheapest, it was well worth the trip. We had days of having the beach all to ourselves, and having no phone reception was probably the best thing to help shut off from the world! While I have been to Fiji and Thailand, I would come back here again in a heart beat for the perfect holiday to shut off from the world. Absolutely recommend taking a holiday here, and you must stay with Ray and Sue!

Cocos is paradise all year round. Depending on why you wish to come: November to March balmy with slight breeze. Lagoon like glass. March through to May can be wet but still beautiful. June beautiful. July through to September constantly breezy (wind/kite surfing season). October beautiful. Temperature constant 23-31 degrees C. Humidity up with less wind.
