Detailed Reviews
We have had a trip around Tasmania and this was our first stop. What a magical beginning. The location is beautiful amid wonderful forest and with the opportunity to see plenty of wildlife. Sean and Rosemary are most hospitable hosts, the lodge is immaculate and so comfortable, and Sean cooks delectable meals. We could not have wished for more. And then we had a really interesting guided walk in the forest which was marvellous. I am running out of superlatives....

+1
We stayed one night and it was a most peaceful and relaxing experience. The location is beautiful, set in a green valley with views of the western tiers. Sean and Rosemary are friendly and make you feel very welcome. We chose to eat dinner at the lodge and the food was exceptional - tempura fish and vegetables, sourced from the garden. Breakfast was also exceptional - I have never eaten duck eggs before and they were delicious. Also, Sean makes a mean hot chocolate.
Our room was lovely and comfortable and we slept very well in the peace and quiet. It was a really relaxing stay, with good company and I would definitely return.

We had a lovely room where we could listed to the sound of a babbling brook as well as the contented sounds made by the free range ducks. Rosemary and Swan were lovely hosts. The guided walk was very interesting and the food, cooked by Sean, was excellent. We definitely recommend it.

Thanks for your appreciation of our accommodation and surroundings. The guided walk is one of the highlights for many people who stay, even Tasmanian's who have enjoyed being out and about and learning more about their own island state. We will soon be accepting more people from interstate and trust they will also enjoy learning about the state and fate of the forests surrounding us.

We had the most relaxing, enjoyable and rejuvenating "nature-based" stay at Forests Walks Lodge. Everything about it is authentic and organic. Amazing forests walks to see ancient giant trees, fern forests, and other natural wonders. Sean is the best host imaginable, a great cook and knowledgeable on the area's natural and cultural history. The views from our room were inspiring and peaceful.

When I walked into Sean and Rosemary's lodge, my first impression was that it was a good place to relax! The lounge is beautiful and peaceful with large windows looking out on a gorgeous valley and hills beyond. The rooms are lovely and comfortable and all look out onto that same view. Wombats and echnidas grazed nonchalantly on the grass as we walked by. Sean's dinners were absolutely delicious as were the breakfasts - and one day, lunch, after we came back from our forest walk. As I told Sean, that walk blew me away. Learning about the complexity, variety and age range of the flora was fascinating, and the forest is alive with the sound of birdsong and just a beautiful and peaceful place to walk. Sean and Rosemary are great company and from them we learned so much about the history of the area and ways in which they and others have worked to preserve it. Of all of the lodges and inns we stayed at on our journey through Tassie, this lodge, in the midst of such beauty, was an experience I would repeat in a heartbeat.

The beautiful energy-efficient Lodge was designed and built by the owners, using local timbers and sandstone for the floor. There are panoramic views from every room. Sean is a highly qualified naturalist, conservationist and ...wait for it... chef! So it is not just the wonderful accommodation on offer. There are a range of guided walks through the property's unique forest and delicious three course meals incorporating home grown vegetables. So go for the full experience if you possibly can.

Had an excellent 2 nights at ForestWalksLodge. Sean and Rosemary are excellent hosts. The food was also excellent, with Sean being a great cook, and most of the food either being grown in their own garden or being sourced very locally.
The lodge is a very good working example of passive solar design. Very warm and stable temperature. Well worth the visit just to see and experience this.
The guided botanical walk is a must do add on.
Thoroughly enjoyed the stay

We Stayed at the lodge for 3 nights and loved every minute of it. The lodge was cosy and very comfortable as was our lovely room. We did the guided walk with Sean and learned so much about the world heritage forest. Sean and Rosemary worked very hard for many years and still are to protect this wonderful environment. The included breakfast was amazing . Do yourself a favour and get Sean to cook you a delicious 3 course meal. Sean and Rosemary a wonderful hosts. If you are looking for a 5 star hotel stay away but if you are looking for a very special unique experience spend a few days . We loved it !!!!

We started our stay with Sean leading us on a guided hike. This was truly amazing feature of the Lodge. Sean took us through the history of the forest ecology on a walk that was all within a mile or two of the Lodge. We saw the repercussions of logging that had occurred 100 years earlier. We saw a Tassie rain forest which was tucked into a little seam in the hillside. We saw a massive Eucalyptus tree that was over 500 years old. The magic about each one of these sights/sites was that they were in the exact right spot. A few meters in any direction and the tree does exist through the next 200 year fire, or some other plants take over the environment and crowd out the rain forest. It is humbling to think about how fragile everything is when you are viewing across a 500 year timeline.
The Lodge is nearly completely off the grid—they have fast Internet and they take outside natural gas for cooking, but they generate all the electricity by solar and water power. They have clean pure water off the mountain, and employ an environmentally sensitive septic system for waste.
The décor is beautiful, if a little worn, to the point of making it feel more like a home than a boutique hotel. Hand woven blankets and throws are made by a local talent. The art is reflective of the local scenery. Our room was perfectly comfortable and inviting. After a hard day of hiking, we were treated to a hot bath in a tub big enough for two. The we were able to watch the sun descend on the valley outside our patio window.
The finale to the day was a five star dinner prepared out of the Lodge kitchen. We are 2 vegetarians that have eaten well around the world. This meal will stand up to any served in Barcelona or Napa Valley or any culinary center you can conjure. Sean created a vegetarian meal that considered some of our interests and tasted fantastic. In addition to the flavor, every dish came with an origin story that was fascinating and added enjoyment.

Couple from Prescott AZ asked a question June 2015
Westminster, Colorado2 contributions1 helpful voteHi, Forest Walks Lodge sounds wonderful. We are two couples traveling together and looking for accommodations that offer a taste of the countryside. Are there two bedroom units or just one? How far are we from Deloraine? We are traveling with a car so we have transportation. Thanks for your help.
Dear JimTerri
Sorry it has taken so long to reply but I was not aware or your message until now.
We have 2 bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. There is a common dining room and lounge. When are you visiting Tasmania. Rosemary
The best route by bus
Take the airport bus to Hobart Transit Centre
Take the Redline bus from Hobart to Deloraine (via Launceston)
We can pick you up in Deloraine. How many days do you want to stay at Forest Walks Lodge?
Have you booked your air fare to Hobart because Launceston airport is closer to us?
Dear Morgane
We are a small guesthouse situated in a mountain valley and we take guided walks in the Tasmanian rainforest. We can recommend a range of walks and other activities such as flyfishing for our visitors and help to arrange them. Please visit our web site Forest Walks Lodge for more information.
I hope this helps.
