We ate here a couple of times during our stay in Spreyton for a wedding. The staff were amazing catering for all 25 or so of us! To top it all off when our taxi didn't arrive on the morning of the wedding all of the staff dropped everything and drove the 14 wedding guests to our venue in Hittisleigh!...

We've travelled a lot in the UK and have eaten at a lot of pubs and restaurants around this fine island, but there are very few places as welcoming and relaxing as the Tom Cobley. We visited last year whilst staying in the area, and despite being nearly 90 miles away in Dorset this year, we were determined to make...

Just a quick review of the Tom Cobley. Myself and my Wife visited a couple of weeks ago, whilst out for a drive around the back roads of Devon. We drove into the quaint little village of Spreyton and found this wonderful and charming village Inn. The sun was out and a couple were sat outside this stunning venue. We...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Tom Cobley Tavern is a small country inn which serves the parish of Spreyton and the surrounding area. It is the hub of village life; on most evenings locals meet for a game of darts or cards. Enjoy a relaxing break in a typical unspoilt village local. Spreyton is a quiet village with a population of approximately 300 people, a primary school, tennis and cricket clubs and a beautiful church dating from the 14th century. Tom Cobley, celebrated in the folk song describing his fateful journey to Widdicombe Fayre, was a considerable landowner in the parish and is buried in the churchyard. The Tavern has a traditional small bar with open fire and a new snug area where a host of real ales and ciders are served. There is an attractive dining room and an adjoining dinning area, which opens onto a beautiful garden with country views. Upstairs on the first floor there are three bedrooms, which share a bathroom and separate WC. Room 1 comprises of a double bed, Room 2 comprises of two single beds and Room 4 a single bed. On the second floor there are a further three bedrooms, two of which are en-suite and the other has a private bathroom. Room 5 and 7 comprise of a double bed and single bed and Room 6 a double bed. All rooms are equipped with wash basins, central heating, Digital TVs with DVD players, radio alarm clocks with CD players, a hair dryer and complimentary toiletries. Food is served daily, with a separate lunchtime and evening menu available, including a daily specials board. Homemade food is served using as much local produce as possible. A small but interesting cellar of moderately priced wines is kept. Dogs are welcome in the bar area only. A traditional public house nestled in a pretty country village. ... more   less
