BreakFree Alexandra Beach garners acclaim for its pool facilities and prime location near the beach and dining, making it a hit with families and travelers alike. Guests have lauded the family-friendly amenities, though some have pointed out room maintenance issues and early dining closures.
Opinions on value and service vary, with some appreciating room upgrades and staff friendliness, while others cite rudeness and unexpected charges. Cleanliness remains a concern, as praise for the outdoor areas contrasts with the need for improved room cleanliness.

Detailed Reviews
The Break Free resort is ideally situated for the beach and visits to nearby Mooloolaba, it's easy to find and has loads of secure undercover parking.
The staff were very helpful, our arrival paperwork consisted of providing a signature and being handed our card keys.
The resort itself is as advertised, a beautiful lagoon pool with several separate 'heated' pools as well as an enormous hot tub. The gardens are beautifully manicured, the water's lovely and clean and even at the height of the season there's more than enough space for all the guests and their kids.
Our room was spotless and was appointed with a quality TV, comfortable furniture, heavy curtains (apartment is East facing), ceiling fans and a well equipped kitchenette. The aircon unit was modern and whisper quiet, the adjoining bathroom had an enormous shower cubicle, washer and dryer with washing powder supplied. The cherry on the cake was the bed and pillows, as a business traveller I rate these as imperative for a good stay, I slept very well.
Our apartment was on the second floor and had direct access to the pool area via steps from our courtyard which was a good size for a family and was well shielded from our neighbours. The apartments themselves are constructed from slab concrete which means little sound from other residents.
The resort is adjoined to the Black Bunny Café which has a very good menu for adults and kids and is also licensed, also within the resort perimeter are Pizza and Fish & Chips takeaway, both of which were very good.
All in all we had a really enjoyable stay, on our last day I literally had to drag my 8 year old son out of the pool away from his new crowd of 'besties'.
Break Free Alexandra Beach is very much a family resort, the kids outnumber the adults so you should take this into consideration when booking.
We will almost certainly return.

Wonderful pool facilities, but rooms are poorly maintained and not clean. On making dinner first evening we had to clean items (pans etc) that had been left unwashed. Bathroom and bedroom security screens so dirty, there is no air flow. Pool ‘rules’ are not enforced by staff which effects everyone’s stay.

I booked a Studio room for a relaxing weekend away with my Mum. Unfortunately, the studio room I was allocated was on the street side and so there was a lot of traffic noise which meant that sitting on the balcony was not the peaceful experience I had anticipated. Luckily, the rooms themselves are fairly soundproof so with the door closed it was quiet (although not the experience I was looking for). There was a very small glimpse of the sea from the balcony.
The room itself was small but functional. It had a small kitchenette. The bathroom was unique in that the back wall of the bath/ shower (very sizeable but a big step in) was also a wall in the main room so that you could see the shape of the person in the shower from your bed! It is a little tricky to explain! A little weird if you are with someone other than your partner.
Once you were in the main part of the resort, you were away from the street noise. The resort itself seems to cater for best for families with lots of children playing in the pools, especially the heated one. There was also a small playground.
The location of the resort is opposite the Alex Heads Life Saving Club and a stunning patrolled beach. There are lots of lovely walks nearby.
Secure parking is undercover.
I would recommend this for families. I would suggest that the 2 and 3 bedroom apartments are best as they overlook the pool and appear to be away from the street noise. Some of them are positioned so you can access the pool from your balcony (like a swim up pool).

We booked our room in Jan 2019 for a Jan 2020 stay so we could have a swim up room, our booking clearly stated swim up room, booked through call centre as advised to do on their website. Arrive and we don't have a swim up room, all we got was a 'sorry'. We were given a courtyard (or similar named) room, and the surcharge not charged, well surely you would not charge me extra for a room I didn't book!!
Arrived to room and it's best described as broken - knob missing on stove top, the oven and fridge don't shut properly, bathroom shower tap leaks, stained bedding, need I go on. The "best" part of the room, is our ensuite window is next to an outside light and has no curtain, so the light comes in and then shines through a weirdly placed window from ensuite into the bedroom so even in the middle of the night, it's like daylight in our main bedroom, perfect for seeing the cockroaches walking around at 2am. As per other reviews poor rooms seem to be the norm... Obviously management passing feedback onto unit owners is not working for maintenance.
Our neighbours have had their music up so loud we can hear it perfectly in our room and we can hear every foot step above us.

This place is NOT what it’s advertised as. If you believed all you read in the “resorts” promo stuff (As we did !) You’d be under the impression that you’re actually getting good value for good money..NOT SO!
The only good thing and I mean THE ONLY good things are the location to beach across the road and the lagoon pools/heated pool and spa. The reason these are so good is because this is where you feel like spending most of your time to avoid being inside such a dated and dirty/un-maintained room ! We stayed in a swim up room at pool level (paid the extra $175 for this) which again was nice but it’s what’s inside the apartment that makes it all downhill from there ...
We had four people stay (2 adults/2 children) and got used to having cold showers in June !
We all swam in pool and wanted warm showers afterwards but hot water ran out and we had wait 30mins between the next shower for water to re-heat! They don’t tell you this when you book !! If I’d booked at a caravan park that may have been acceptable but this is apparently a resort ! Most substandard resort I’ve been to..
The tiles on floor were dirty when we arrived
there was hair in the shower drain from whoever stayed here last, we had a family of four and were only provided with two face cloths, outside kids bedroom was very noisy day and night due to location of vending Machine and lift, kitchen utensils, drinking glasses and plates were dirty in the cupboard so we had to wash them prior to use, you can’t actually get any natural airflow through the apartment at night time as there is no security door screen for back patio, AC is only option but is noisy and the vents looked like they could do with a clean too, main bedroom was uncomfortable and mattress needs to be thrown out (sagged in middle !) the list could go on and on but I think you get The jist! DO NOT STAY HERE !

We had a two bedroom room. All fixtures and fittings in the room are dated and dirty. The carpet in one of the rooms was ripped. The bedside lamps in the main room were rusty. The kitchen kettle was mouldy inside. The dishes in the cupboard were dirty and still wet. Around the corners of the room were dirty and dusty. The microwave is just plonked on the bench and the door hits on the kitchen tap. The blinds are old and feel very dirty. Coffee table is unstable and wobbly. A very dirty, tired and dated room. Definitely only 2 starts. The pool is great for kids.

I am an Accor Gold member and have stayed at many Accor properties but this would be one of our disappointments. The location is great and the pool facilities are wonderful but from there on it is all downhill.
We were allocated a room with a shower in the bath with a very high side and for a couple in their late seventies it was very unsafe and difficult to use. We were surprised the receptionist didn't observe our ages and think about the facilities in the room allocated. My wife was quite upset with the cleanliness of the room and midway through our stay spoke to reception requesting a better clean. The staff did clean the room but took all the opened and unopened toiletries and for the last three days of our stay we had to use our own soap and shampoo. The room was very dated but reception did say they were privately owned and it was up to the owners to make modifications and improvements.
On a couple of occasions we returned to the resort late at night and we found the parking almost full with available spaces a long way from the access to our room.
I know you were not aware but as a result of my recommendation 8 couples booked rooms at the resort for the week and many had better and more suitable rooms than ours.

We stayed for 4 nights on the third floor. The first night myself and 3 year old daughter stood on glass shards in our room not long after arriving, we found multiple glass shards from kitchen to dining room to into the bedroom. Reception was very lovely and quick to deal with our complaint and came and vacuumed our room straight away. However this shouldn’t have been necessary if it was cleaned in the first place.
There was also many other signs the room had not been well cleaned, ID card, body spray, coins, socks, hair ties, pubes in the shower, were all some of the Wonderful added extras we received on our stay.
Minus this aspect, the hotel grounds are great, the pool is AMAZING. We went in winter and were still able to swim everyday as there is a heated pool and spas as well as the large cold water pool which has slides and waterfall type features.
The staff that we dealt with were beautifully friendly and very kind and approachable.

Caught a Greyhound coach from Brisbane so I arrived too early for check in at 2. My room was ready by about 1.30 so only a short wait. My booked room was actually a one bedroom pool view but I was given a pool side room, so on the ground floor with direct access from the verandah into the pool which was great, although the weather was not really pool weather and I didn’t use this facility.
The apartment was quite well equipped with a hob, microwave and an electric frying pan as well as cooking utensils and crockery and cutlery. In the shower room there was a washer and dryer. Although I was only there four days there was a mop and bucket and hoover, and that is how I found out that the rooms were not serviced. I eventually found out information about cleaning and emptying bins etc via a QR code on the fridge. But no one had mentioned this at check in.
The wifi was described as high speed internet but it was not that fast. And although there was Foxtel on the TV and a TV capable of Netflix and YouTube it was impossible to connect the TV to the internet to use these options. The Foxtel channels were quite limited. There is also a TV in the bedroom.
One of the bits of information that would have been useful to have when booking (I am slightly disabled) was with regard to the bathroom. There is a small square bathtub enclosed by glass with a shower over it, but no handles to help you step in and out. The top of the tub was about mid-thigh on me, and it was quite tricky to negotiate, particularly as there were no handles. I don’t know if they have more accessible showers in other rooms but I coped (badly).
There are some restaurants and bars at the front of the hotel on the esplanade but these were closed on a Wednesday when I arrived. And some were closed as the building is being renovated. Luckily there was a very well stocked small shop on the corner and I also had a car so could do a supermarket shop.
If you want a pool towel it is an extra $3 and if you run out of anything in the room such as tissues or loo roll you have to go to reception to request but they were fine about giving these out. One of the downsides of my stay was the acoustics in the building, the floors are all tiled and consequently when the family in the apartment above me started playing tennis before 7 a.m. the noise woke me up, not sure why they thought bouncing a tennis ball on a tiled floor before 7 was acceptable but they clearly did. I could hear a lot from the upstairs and the next door apartment throughout my stay there, so this is definitely a negative.

Dear Wales_solo-traveller, Thank you for taking the time to review our property, I was pleased to read that you enjoyed your stay with us. I was sorry to read that your stay was negatively affected by the noise of the surrounding units. While almost all of our Studio and 1 Bedroom apartments have a shower over bath, our 2 and 3 bedroom apartments all have a walk-in shower. I am sorry if you were not made aware of this at the time of booking. I hope we can welcome you back to our Resort when you next visit the Sunshine Coast

Another awesome stay with you guys.
We requested a big balcony room which we got...luckily it wasn’t so busy.
Our tv broke the 2nd day and this was fixed with no issue.
We hired a porta cot for our baby which was all fine however it would be good if it came with an additional mattress as the ones porta cots come with are rubbish...I used spare cushions and pillows from the rooms to add some comfort.
The pool is seriously the best we’ve stayed in. So much room. The main lagoon pool was quite warm which was surprising as normally it’s refreshing but still nice to swim in and good for our 8month old- however the two smaller pools were spa like temperatures and far too warm to use through the day (for us anyway) Slides were popular with our kids as always.
Great fish and chips and pizza just outside the resort. Cold rock and the new gelato bar didn’t disappoint and the awesome beach across the road.
With our balcony room it would be good to have a safer flooring as when you get out of the pool and walk up the steps it’s quite slippery.
Apart from that everything was great.
Until next time 😀😀
We requested a big balcony room which we got...luckily it wasn’t so busy.
Our tv broke the 2nd day and this was fixed with no issue.
We hired a porta cot for our baby which was all fine however it would be good if it came with an additional mattress as the ones porta cots come with are rubbish...I used spare cushions and pillows from the rooms to add some comfort.

There is a bbq area that is for the use of all guests - as to using your own portable weberq on the balcony - you would need to contact Breakfree themselves.
The 2 bedroom swimup room our daughter had did have a large fridge - we think there was an oven and pretty sure it had a large enough balcony to sit 6 ppl.
There last week, no it is no longer open. Advertising said it was, seats still there but permanently closed.
