From start to finish our holiday on this island was perfect.

Accommodation:
The ocean villas are very large and like new. The bathroom has an outdoor shower and is really great. The room is air conditioned and has a large window front facing the sea. The terrace is also very large and not visible from the neighboring villas. You have absolute privacy.

Diving:
For us it was a pure diving holiday. It was possible for the guests to do 3 dives daily. Night dives were offered approximately every 3 days, depending on the moon phase and current. Only small dive groups were formed (max. 4 pers) who were always travelling with the same guide during their stay. The crew of the dive center actually took care of everything (equipment is taken and put on the dive boat and assembled, then everything is brought to the base, cleaned and put away by the crew, the dives are printed and handed over at the end) There is an air-conditioned camera room.
The underwater world is simply colorful and diverse and indescribably great.

Cuisine:
Indonesian cuisine meets Austrian cuisine!
The food was really awesome! There was always a large selection, which was individually selected by the guests in advance. In addition to the 3 main meals, there was a snack between the first two dives, as well as coffee and cake in the afternoon. Everything was very tasty very decoratively arranged.

Thank you.
A special thank you to Barbara and Christian who have given this place a very special atmosphere with their warmth and presence. They were always there, always listening to their guests and showing genuine interest in our experiences and wishes. They are absolute all-rounders and have created a place of well-being.

Conclusion:
An island that is already fully booked with 16 guests is pure luxury! No wish was left unfulfilled. For divers a paradise.

The diving center:
Perfect service. The guides really take care of everything. A vacation all around - you will "dive" here! And Barbara takes care of everything in a touching way. Every wish is fulfilled - no matter how "difficult". For example, we didn't want any drift dives and every morning the current conditions were checked and a suitable diving spot was chosen. Thank you again for that. The reefs around Kusu are absolutely intact. Pure fish soup. Trips didn't last longer than a few minutes - the "longest" about 10 minutes. After the first morning dive, we go back to the base, where a small snack (delicious) and a drink are waiting for the hungry diver. Barbara is also always there and has an open ear. Our guide Rival took care of everything and diligently showed us the smallest animals in the sea. Thank you for that.

The resort:
Barbara and Chris have fulfilled a dream here and you can see how much the two of them have put their heart and soul into the Kusu Island Resort. Beautiful bungalows in which many "beach finds" have been creatively incorporated. Great. The two are there around the clock and always have an open ear for the guests' wishes. You have to be clear that you are here to dive and relax! Excursions are offered, but we did not go on any of them - our goal was just to relax and dive. Massages are offered, these are carried out in the bungalow or on the terrace - wonderful. The food is delicious - absolutely sufficient (never hungry) and here too, Barbara caters to your wishes. You have to be clear that you are far, far away on an island and everything has to be brought in by boat. We really enjoyed our stay, we left relaxed and totally refreshed after 11 nights (unfortunately). Many thanks to all the good spirits who were always attentive and helpful. Thank you!

After the arduous journey, the motto was "Just relax and enjoy".

The bungalows are luxurious and equipped with great attention to detail.
The terrace is wonderfully usable, as you can lie in the shade, without a view to the neighboring bungalow on the sea and doze.
At high tide, the staircase of the terrace can be used as an entrance to the sea.

Barbara and Christian have created a little paradise with a lot of heart and soul and take care of their guests touchingly.

Diving was super comfortable and varied.
The countless dive spots are only 3 to a maximum of 12 minutes away by boat.
A dive group consists of a maximum of 4 people (usually only 2-3) and the assigned super-love dive guide carefully took care of equipment and divers.
The diving area is wonderfully varied and offers a lot of variety and above all a lot of marine life.

Many thanks to Barbara and Chris and the whole Kusu team

I will definitely come back!

we chose this resort less than a year ago and were looking forward to unique diving on pristine reefs

Once on Kusu, you will first receive an approximately 1-hour monologue/lecture about what you are not allowed to do, where there is no internet and when you will not have electricity. Exactly what you want after 35 hours of arrival, even before you have even 20m on the island behind you.....

The villa matches the description, however, when booking it was not quite clear that you do not have Wi-Fi or mobile phone reception. Only in the restaurant and at the dive center there is limited access to the Internet. Also at night the power is turned off in the entire resort, they have absolute darkness, no emergency lighting whatsoever..... all not up to date. This also means that no air conditioning works at night, but you are comforted by the statement that you have a mosquito net and can open the doors. The only problem is that the mosquito net is not closed and is more like a curtain and lots of animals march through the bed like that. On the second night we had several spiders in bed the size of a saucer.....photos on that I spare you.... You have zero privacy in the villa, you cannot close the windows opaquely... Maybe a couple would like to have "adult time" for themselves? In the morning at 5.30 am it is daylight as you cannot darken the windows.

The catering situation was also disappointing. In our eyes, all this is kept very minimalist, a slice of bread is declared as an appetizer!, often lunch and dinner are basically the same. Also the food is constantly repeated, so we had the same soup 5 times within a week...... Everything also seems to have been counted exactly, you have to decide the night before what you want to have breakfast. If you want an egg instead of the pancake, big problem..... We have not seen anything of the acclaimed Austrian cuisine.

The focus of this trip was diving for us. The corals are in very good condition, but you also have to expect some garbage on the reefs. Very surprised we had to take note that there is no emergency equipment such as oxygen on the dive boats. Reason: we are always only a few minutes from the island. For me a no go and does not show responsible dive management. Every minute without the addition of oxygen may count here. Except for the sponges, you will have the same underwater world in the Maldives.

After all the impressions and especially the very unrelaxed nights, we decided on the 3rd of July. Day to leave. Good idea, but not feasible. There is only one flight once a day and it was booked for days.

Overall, the management and unfortunately not the guest is also in the foreground. The atmosphere on the island is like a funeral. We had the feeling that the roommates also served time in the villa.

We will certainly not return to Kusu, we did not experience the self-imposed motto "Luxury meets Nature"

Kusu is located in the southern part of Halmahera, near the island of Bacan. You can reach the island by flying to Labuha and then taking a 40-minute motorboat ride.
The reception was very friendly with a small committee on the jetty. Barbara and Christian, co-owners and on-site supervisors, were also there and gave a short introduction.
The bungalows are great and can accommodate at least 3 people, although most are only booked for two people. There is air conditioning, but electricity only from 6 a.m. to midnight.
The complex is beautifully embedded in nature and in our conversations with the owners we also found that a lot is being done to keep human influence as low as possible.
The food is varied, there are always 3-4 main courses for lunch and dinner, which are selected in advance.
The diving is very nice. The reefs don't have to hide from Raja Ampat. There are great reefs with lots of fish. However, anyone looking for critters and rare small animals could be disappointed.
All in all, a very successful stay.

Kusu Island Resort and its team leaves nothing to be desired. The room and everything around it is just terrifically beautiful. With great attention to detail. Best service we've ever had. The food is just top class, you don't have to say anything more. Christian and Barbara are two people with the heart in the right place. You just have to love them and the whole team. The underwater world is simply indescribable and full of life. There is much to discover. Conclusion from our trip...we will definitely come back despite the long trip!

The dive guides are absolutely unbeatable. All you have to do is put on your jacket and jump into the water. Nothing to worry about. The assigned guide will take perfect care of you throughout the dive. And sometimes finds things we might not even have seen. After diving there is also a deliciousness for the hole in the stomach. Conclusion... mega cool dive guides! Keep it up!!!

Kind regards Mischa & Natalie Vonlanthen

We had the absolute delight of spending 11 nights at Kusu Island Resort and had a magnificent time. The food was mouthwatering, the service was impeccable and the diving was out of this world! Barbara and Chris (along with their amazing team) were wonderful hosts. Barbara's knowledge about her 'garden' aka reef was incredibly in-depth. It is definitely where luxury meets nature. We had such an amazing time... that we are heading back next year. Can not wait!

We were greeted with music on December 24, 2016 at 5 p.m. on the jetty by Barbara, Christian and the staff. Over a drink we received information about the resort and the entire process. After that we were shown our Villa 4. The decor was lovingly designed and nothing was missing.
Our privacy was granted by the vegetation. We had travelled to Kusu for diving and switching off and our expectations were exceeded.
Barbara and Christian were always there for the guests through their presence.
To the restaurant we can only say “hats off”. What was conjured up there was amazing, rich and delicious. There was always enough and extra wishes were met, to which the entire service also contributed.
Barbara and Christian have created something great here in a few years with work and ideas.
Thanks to everyone for a nice holiday,
Pete and Marie

We were able to spend two weeks at the Kusu Island Resort. The warm welcome, the personal care from the owners and staff, and everything else made the stay unforgettable.

The resort has a very high standard, but at the same time does not neglect nature and the local population. Most of the things are made on site by the in-house carpenter. The owners invest a lot to keep the resort up to this standard and to make the guests' stay as pleasant as possible.

There were delicious snacks and food throughout the day - each with a decent selection.

The diving spots are usually a maximum of 15 minutes away and therefore very easy to get to.

We had two great weeks and would like to thank Barbara and Christian again!

We came here with the hope to snorkel some remote reefs and enjoy some parts of Indonesia that are rarely visited. The resort was excellent and probably the best set up resort for diving and snorkelling we have seen. The house reef was also the best we have snorkelled in Indo. Snorkel trips by boat were 5-15min away and some were excellent and others great. Probably the best thing here is exploring and snorkelling areas that very few people have visited. Rooms are very well designed with great sun and shade with privacy. A/c was great but turns off at midnight when the generator shuts down. Food was good and the staff cater to your level of taste, spice and portion size. You also have the option to byo drinks but also the resort has basic beverages and local beer. Definitely a great location and well run resort.
