We did not know what to expect going to Lesotho. But Malealea opened our eyes. It is remote, surrounded by beautiful mountains. The people are poor but they are incredibly friendly. The children will melt your heart. The visit to the village school house and orphanage was humbling. If you go, do not forget to bring clothes to donate. Our...

We stayed this weekend July 2016 for 2 nights and found the service, staff, and accommodation to be incredibly welcoming. 3 young kids who just loved the play ground, camp grounds, and friendly staff Also the communal kitchen really helped us with kids snacks in between meal times. Glenn (the manager) and Jackie were proactive in arranging dinner and food...

I traveled here with a group of 6 to get a Lesotho experience in a week's time. Glenn, the proprietor of the lodge was amazingly helpful from the start. Our transfer from Maseru was seamless. Our activities were all booked in advance (horseback riding, homestay visit), but there was plenty of room for additions and alterations. The meals on property...

My husband and my brother-in-law and I stayed here and had to extend our stay because we were enjoying our time so much. A family business that has been empowering the local community for year. Set up through a Development Trust, employing locals, leveraging the community's ponies for treks, etc. An amazing place to come and visit to really experience...

This place is wonderful. Shame about the drought as we only had water for four hours per day. The lodge has good self catering facilities, but the village shops aren't well stocked so it's better to bring supplies from Maseru. Possible to organise all sort of activities including horse riding and trekking by employing inexpensive local guides. Glenn was really...

Thank you for your review. I am happy to inform you that the drought is finally over and we've also had good snow this winter so the water table should be back to normal. We hope you'll manage to visit Malealea again to experience what Lesotho should look like in the summer.

Loved the overall setting of the site, like a rustic resort. Glenn and Nadia were warm hosts. There is enough to keep one busy, and alternatively, enough charming quietude to make for a nice lazy holiday. My pet peeve here is the electricity supply which is only on from 5pm to 9.30pm!! It is too early to sleep at 9.30pm,...

We chose Malealea Lodge based on very good Tripadvisor ratings. It appears European people think when a African establishment is in a run down condition it is "quaint". This establishment should definitely not get more than a two star rating and is not quaint. The bar area was the worst. The curtains where torn and ragged. The walls where dirty...

Dear Alex I was indeed disappointed to read your review as we met several times and every time we enquired as to your comfort you said everything was great. At Malealea we have always portrayed ourselves as a basic lodge providing a glimpse into local Basotho life. We provide basic comforts such as hot showers, limited electricity and comfortable beds....

We stayed here for 2 nights - 9 motorbikes & 15 people and had a really amazing time. The hosts are extremely friendly and accommodating (charging our cell phones in the bar) and the lodge was rustic yet nicely decorated around the grounds. The staff were also very friendly and were very efficient with any special catering requirements. The food...
