It's pretty surprising to find such good hotel with friendly staff and safe parking in a small town like Ketama! The double bed room is carpeted and well decorated, the bathroom is clean with enough towels for 2 days stay and warm water, the beds are beyond comfy for quality sleep. There's also a nice view from the balcony over the private saloons in the garden. The poolside area is also enjoyable in summer. The biggest misfortune we had was when the door lock got stuck, we couldn't open get out of the room (215) for few minutes. Luckily, we tried very hard to turn the lock indicator on doorknob up, down, left, right until we found the right degree which opens the door. Besides that, breakfast buffet was average : boiled eggs, bread, cake slices, msemmen (Moroccan pancake), cream cheese, jam and orange juice with bad aftertaste. First dinner was also not up to the expectations for a 4* hotel : "okay" tomato sauce + spaghetti and veggie soupe. The second dinner got better after we shared our feedback with the cook. Hotel Tidghine has a old private "bar" with a dance floor you can book for a private party, that becomes public few minutes later. Strangers and non-residents come in, sit on the side chairs and stare at people dancing (mainly girls) all night long. It was so uncomfortable that the party didn't last as planned.…
Due to a detour we didn't have enough time to make our intended destination and unfortunately ended up in Ketama for the night. It has a menacing feel to it and I can't imagine why anyone would intentionally want to stay here. Note to self: Read Rough Guide before leaving and not upon arrival! A tired, expensive hotel that does not represent value for money. Avoid the hotel, avoid the town. The journey across the Riff Valley was memorable for the scenery. The constant offering of cannabis to purchase became irritating!!!
Ketama is an unusual place! There is a lot on the internet about it's main export that would be good to know about before you wander around town. The Hotel is a good safe haven in the middle of town. We arrived as a party of 20 all with our own vehicles as we were on a tour of Northern Morocco and the hotel put everything under lock and key, we had a good evening. Kind of shabby chic place nice food and comfortable room.
It is, I believe, the only hotel in this part of the Rif unless I am proved wrong. It is a good place to stay after a day's travel. Comfortable and clean. The staff is friendly, the restaurant serves moroccan dishes. Since Ketama is located at 1500m above sea level, it is kind of cool, too cool in May to use the nice swimming pool. Had drinks on the poolside (it is also the only place in town where you can enjoy a beer). Eating places in town are sparse and maybe not to my hygiene standards. So we had Tajine in the hotel restaurant. If you ask politely, you can be led to place in the hotel garden where one can taste a sample of local products ;-)
