Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A lovely quiet retreat but close to Stonehaven and Aberdeen for those looking to explore the surrounding areas. Great hosts, lovely homely breakfasts, well equipped and extremely clean and comfortable rooms. this place is a must for anyone looking for a warm welcoming place to relax at the end of a busy day. We are already planning a stay with our daughter and again with friends.

If you're looking for a quiet, peaceful place to stay in the area, then Chapel of Barras is a must. Michelle and David were friendly and welcoming. The room and en suite were spacious, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. They provided bottled water, kettle with coffee and teas selection with the added treat of home baked muffins on arrival. The dining room has bi folding full length doors giving you a view out onto the garden and surrounding fields. The full Scottish breakfast was very tasty and included locally sourced products. A fantastic place to stay for exploring the surrounding area. Highly recommend.

I stayed here while on a business trip for one night in the local area, what an excellent find! The room was very clean, fresh crisp bedding, a very well presented bathroom and a homemade malteaser cake on the side (which was really very nice!) I had a great nights sleep! In the morning things got better, a full Scottish breakfast, with homemade jam, homemade bread, fried egg, black pudding, bacon, a little haggis (first time I tried this, pleasantly surprised) and a very decent coffee! I paid my bill and left in a hurry unfortunately, I left some paperwork for my rental car behind, the owner was very kind to text me and I collected it on my way back to the airport :) thanks again for a fantastic stay - hopefully my next visit will be for pleasure rather than business!

We arrived very tired and a bit late in the day (and suffering from jet lag) but was met with smiles, warm tea and a afternoon snack. Room and bathroom is excellent and comfortable. Breakfast next day was wonderful, so tasty and nothing was too much to asked for. This is a working farm and there are animal smells but only noticeable when you are outside, the room is so well made/sealed that it was cosy and warm. Sitting in the breakfast room, looking over the grass/garden was a lovely way to relax. Sadly, we repacked after our single night and moved on. Would happily stay here again.

Only a short drive from Stonehaven. It’s a working farm and your hosts are country people with country values, meaning they are nice and friendly. Great room with an ensuite. For breakfast you have a choice off the menu. Couldn’t fault it. Lovely place to stay b

Have been staying here the last week. The hosts are really nice and the rooms are 4 star quality. The shower is nice and powerful and there is a nice tea and coffee facility in the room. The breakfast is Devine. Fresh fruit, yogurt, homemade bread, bacon sandwiches.. I could go on. The house and everything in it are four star. If you like a tranquil setting where you can go for a nice walk/jog then your on a winner. Would/will recommend.

This has just got to be one of the top Farmhouse Bed and Breakfasts in the country. We stayed here while visiting family for 3 nights. Clean, very well appointed accommodation and a fantastic breakfast. There is a delicious buffet display, pancakes, croissants, various fruits, yogurts etc etc and that's before you start on the variety of cooked food. Lovely home baking in our room daily, shortbread, fruit cakes and lemon drizzle Yummy. Very near to Dunotter Castle which is a must see in the area. Michelle and David are great hosts and go the extra mile to make sure that their guests are comfortable.

Wow - my family and I stayed 1 night at the Chapel of Barras B & B and we couldn't have been more delighted. Michele & David are fantastic hosts and they run a top-notch farm and B & B. Our rooms were immaculately clean, super comfortable and roomy, and very pretty. The breakfast was fantastic - full Scottish, plus fresh fruits, salami and cheese. It is a very quiet location, and only 9 minutes away from the stunning Dunnottar Castle. It was definitely our favorite B & B during our week in Scotland. Many thanks to Michele & David for their hospitality. Roberta T.

We stayed there just one night and it was a pity. Beautiful bedroom, amazing bathroom and shower. Katherine and his husband are so kind and give you everything you need. Breakfast is great! We would like to stay more!

Lovely room, very quiet setting - off the beaten track in Kinneff (between Stonehaven and Inverbervie) so you would need a car (not sure what the bus service is like) but convenient for both and for Dunnottar Castle. Breakfast was wonderful, plenty of everything, nice fresh fruit and excellent cooked breakfast. We stayed here with a toddler; room had plenty of space for an extra bed and there was a box of toys thoughtfully provided on the upstairs landing. (Only downside is our room didn't have a bath; not sure if some of the others do.) Will definitely stay again.
