Thank you to the entire wonderful, beautiful, soulful, & kind team at Amanjiwo for making our honeymoon -- the most important & symbolic trip of our lives together so far -- so special and so enchanting. The moment I walked into the lobby at the Amanjiwo and witnessed the view and the architecture in real life, tears swelled into my eyes. It is THAT beautiful. Then the kindness & gestures made by the staff to make us feel welcomed and special as honeymooners -- now that will also make you cry. It was like we were in a movie when the staff surprised us with a special candlelit table. This hotel, the people, & these memories will be something my new husband and I cherish for the rest of our lives. The entire experience was simply breathtaking.

This resort, which was opened in 1997, is very well maintained. The architecture of the resort is unlike any other we have seen, and it is in total harmony with the Borobudur temple, which can be viewed from the resort. We stayed in a Pool Villa with a Borobudur view for 4 nights, and the villa was nicely designed. Nothing looked outdated or worn out, even though this resort was built many years ago.
We were checked in by an inexperienced and careless staff member, which made us question whether we had arrived at the wrong hotel and not an Aman property. We have never encountered a staff member like her in any of the Aman hotels we have visited, and she definitely needs more training. Fortunately, the rest of the team was fantastic. Everyone we met was friendly and caring, and we had a wonderful time staying while exploring the fascinating temples in the area.
In addition to the Borobudur temple, we also requested a tour to see the Prambanan temple, which was more than 90 minutes drive from the resort. The temple was well worth the time, and we highly recommend visiting it. There was daily lecture about Balinese culture or the history of the temples in the evening at the library, hosted by the resort’s anthropologist. We learned a lot more about the temples we visited from these talks.
The food at the resort was good and there was a lot of variety. We also had dinner at the Pak Bilal’s house, and on the eve of our departure, we had the Ramayana Royal Feast with a traditional dance performance. Both specialty dining experiences were well organized and very enjoyable. It was also interesting to visit the back of house and see the kitchen in operation. We had a lot of fun at our chocolate cooking class, making ice cream and soufflé.
I came here to celebrate my birthday, and I received wishes from every staff member I met, which I really appreciated. Not only did they present me a brownie birthday cake at breakfast, but they also presented another cake in the shape of Borobudur temple at dinner. They also decorated our villa with flowers and candles while we were out for dinner, which gave us a wonderful surprise. It was definitely a memorable birthday celebration.
The one thing we did not like about this resort is the lack of spa facilities. They turned one regular villa into a couple room and called it a Spa Suite, and they could only serve one party at a time. This could not meet the high demand for spa services from guests, and the massage treatment we had was an underwhelming spa experience. We were told they have plan to build a spa, and we consider this to be absolutely necessary to meet the requirements of today’s travelers.

Dear ryu0803, Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for allowing us the pleasure of celebrating your special occasion together. Your loyalty to Aman is truly appreciated, and it was a great pleasure to meet you personally during your time here. We are delighted that you found the resort’s architecture and its harmony with the Borobudur temple to be captivating. It’s wonderful to hear that your stay in the Pool Suite was comfortable and that you enjoyed the variety of experiences, from exploring the temples to the special dining events and cultural activities. Knowing that your birthday celebration was memorable and that our team made you feel cherished truly warms our hearts. However, I am deeply sorry that your check-in experience fell short of your expectations. Please accept my sincerest apologies once again. As we discussed during your stay, this does not reflect the service standards we uphold at Aman. The staff member involved has already undergone a thorough review and has been assigned additional training to prevent such issues in the future. Your experience reminds us that every moment counts, especially at an Aman property, and we are committed to upholding the high standards you’ve come to expect. I also appreciate your candid feedback regarding the spa facilities. We recognize the importance of a well-appointed spa in enhancing our guests' overall experience, and I’m pleased to inform you that plans for a dedicated spa are indeed in the works. Your comments will certainly help us as we strive to meet the needs of today’s travelers. Thank you again for sharing your detailed and insightful feedback. It is guests like you who help us continually improve and deliver the exceptional experiences that Aman is known for. We hope to welcome you back soon and provide you with an even more perfect stay. Kindest Regards, Pandhu and Amanjiwo family

What can you say about this legendary place that hasn't already been said?
I knew I would be in for something special but I had no idea just how special. The hotel's Ed Tuttle design is ageing well- they've smartly added USB ports beside the bed- but the 40m pool (those utterly perfect trees!) and open rotunda remain visual icons.
As you'd expect, staff are extraordinary in remembering names and appearing and disappearing when you need them. I don't know how they did it exactly- ninjas, perhaps, or magical elves- but every time we stepped out of our room someone dashed in and tidied it up before we returned.
There were many magic moments. The location provides a spellbinding vista across to Borobudur, framed by Sumbing and Merapi volcanoes. I will never forget one evening as mist rolled across the valley at twilight, village lights coming on, as the call to prayer echoed around me. A special highlight was the Chef's Table dinner, where a small army led by Executive Chef Reza gave us a truly unforgettable evening.
I don't have enough superlatives- my high expectations were exceeded again and again at Amanjiwo.

We stayed here for 3 nights and had booked the Cultural Trial package (3 cultural activities of choice, breakfast, afternoon tea and return airport transfer) which was a great offer and can be recommended.
It was our 4th stay at an Aman property and we were therefore expecting a certain standard. Here we were a bit disappointed by some things we had experienced differently before: Housekeeping was unfortunately not invisible and even forgot about our room one day. The little „presents“ (e.g. cable binders, bedtime treats and tag for the suitcase) fell short or rather sparse. The minibar contained only some complimentary items but also others which were not included. Our room was located near the staffs parking lot where people were having loud conversations early in the morning and late in the evening, from somewhere we could also hear a TV playing around the clock. At the pool complimentary water was served and loungers were nicely prepared but other than that service was rather ordinary. At the afternoon tea we were often not served but had to find our way by ourselves. In general I think it would be helpful if every room would have one specific, reliable contact person because we always encountered someone new while planning or communicating and this led to a lot of confusion on both sides, also because things were not followed up by. Also the kids club was unfortunately not staffed. All of this is portrayed in the light of the previous experiences we had at other Aman properties, if this would have been our first encounter with Aman, we would not have noticed or be bothered by these things at all. Also I did not communicate most of this directly because I wanted to spend a relaxing time there without constantly nagging about basically small details. But nonetheless I noticed them.
Other than this we enjoyed the scheduled activities very much. The pool itself is just amazingly beautiful! Do not miss the daily yoga sessions there. The Hotel, its surroundings and views are stunning and the food was excellent. The room was overwhelmingly beautiful with an expansive terrace and atmosphere. The coloring amenities in the room were a nice treat. Staff in general were amazing and super friendly. There is no constant music playing which we enjoyed very much because the nature around is just breathtaking. I did communicate about one larger issue that occurred and this matter was solved extremely well and quickly by Pandhu which I appreciated very much. We would recommend Amanjiwo and would return (but to a different room). Tip: Do a Sewa Volkswagen tour through the surrounding countryside. It is an activity only available at this particular town and it was beautiful and a lot of fun.

The Amanjiwo is by far the most beautiful hotel we have ever stayed in. Here the terms “wellness”, “perfection” and “luxury” are redefined. Even the location of this small, exclusive resort in the middle of the green landscape overlooking the Borobudur temple complex on the horizon is a dream. The hotel complex is beautiful - the harmonious, natural colors, the high-quality materials, the extremely tasteful design, the functionality - everything is super well thought out. It just doesn't get any better. In addition, the cuisine is top notch - everything we tasted was absolutely delicious. In addition, the menu for a small hotel is remarkably large. And then the service - it's world class! Without exception all staff are heartwarmingly friendly, helpful and totally dedicated. You are always greeted by name, which is not a given, and we had the impression that it was really important to the staff to make our stay special. And they succeeded, too. A special thanks goes to Harry, who drove us excellently, to Miko, who accompanied and enriched our excursions, and to the wonderful Fia, who through her tireless and at the same time unobtrusive efforts ensured that we recovered great and felt very, very comfortable. For those seeking relaxation and culture, this resort is the place to be. We definitely want to come back and recommend the place very, very much. It's already high-priced, but it's also worth every penny.

The Amanjiwo is one of the most luxurious hotel that we have ever stayed in. We were overwhelmed by the room, the facilities and the impeccable service. Staff were polite and sought to find out more about your day and wish you well. The room was cleaned and neatly arranged every day at least twice. They even took care to tie up the loose telephone charging cables that we left dangling. We would highly recommend the Amanjiwo for anyone looking for a private getaway.

Spent three nights here on way to Bali, and left wanting more. We were upgraded to a Borobudur pool suite (on lowest level). The astonishing 1300 year old Buddhist temple (largest in world) dominates this place; it is a commanding presence as well as the architectural inspiration for this, the fourth Aman. There are incredible views of Borobudur down the driveway thru the property, as well as through the reception area, dining space and walkway down to the rooms.
The special tour is essential and reveals the temple to be a giant story book of Buddhist wisdom and lore. The 73 bell shaped stupas were built to protect the statues of Buddha beneath them from volcanic ash. Nearly 10 thousand foot Mt Merapi looms over Borobudur (though we never got to see it due to mist and clouds), and it is still active (major eruption in Mar, 2024). The stupas had a purpose but one could not help but image the sound of bells ringing out from this powerful place.
Amanjiwo delivered Aman's uniformly high standard of service. We spent most of the time at their magical pool (despite a pool in our suite), and pretty much had the place to ourselves, both at breakfast and in the morning. Weather was wonderful-dry and low humidity. We absolutely loved our all-too-short visit here and would love to return.

An amazing hotel that is built with a view of the distant Borobudur temple and sympathetic to the temple buildings, but with all the modern amenities at your disposal. We were in the Borobudur suite which was beautifully designed and well equipped. One gets met at the airport and the 90 minute drive to the hotel was in an air conditioned wifi connected and well stocked car, through an interesting route with an informative driver. A breath taking view driving into the hotel. Met by management staff and we were given an excellent tour of the common areas and our suite, as well as the tours available to be booked. The massages in the spa were relaxing especially after a busy day touring in the sun. Hospitality and service par excellence.

Amanjiwo is a most beautiful and serene place where your every need or desire is anticipated and fulfilled This was our first stay at an Aman hotel. We wanted to stay close to Borobudur, and not only is it located close by, but we had a view of the temple from our pool villa, which was exquisite. No need to wake up before dawn to view the sunrise over the temple!
We arrived for our four night stay after 30 hours of travel, and were warmly welcomed and showered with rose petals. The main hotel building is stunning in its symmetry - covered in sandstone tile and perfectly framing Borobudur Temple in the distance. There are only 35 rooms and each is a separate walled structure. The main 40M pool is beautifully sited, with mountain views and lovely landscaping. As a swimmer, I particularly enjoyed swimming laps in this gorgeous pool. Yoga is offered in the morning, and I had a lovely private class with Augustin, as I was the only guest to show up. Food was excellent. We had dinner delivered to our villa or ate at the gorgeous open air restaurant each night. Both linch and dinner featured a small gamelan ensemble playing softly. Breakfasts were delicious with many choices of fresh juices, local fruits, and both Western and Indonesian foods.
Staff were beyond wonderful - friendly but unobtrusive. In particular I would like to mention April & Rafi at reception, Suna (26 yrs there) and Nuke at the restaurant. I had two identical 1 1/2hr massage treatments with Riski (Kiki) who was wonderful.
I cannot say enough about this beautiful hotel and staff. Truly a great hotel experience. It is indeed a very special place.

There is magic that dominates this place. You experience it for the first time when you arrive, when you see Borobodur towering in the distance through the temple-like hall. The magic also includes the complex with its individual villas, all of which are oriented towards Borobodur. It goes without saying that our villa was spacious and modernly furnished. Although the hotel has been around for a few years now, it certainly doesn't give the impression that it is showing its age. The service can only be explained with magic: not only did we find the staff to be friendly and attentive, no matter who we asked, they all knew our names immediately and had the right answer to every question. Whether at breakfast (in the restaurant or with a "healthier" menu at the pool bar) or at dinner: neither the meals nor the service left anything to be desired. Afternoon tea is also served in the hall. This also includes daily changing activities such as dancing, music or pottery, to which you are welcome to take part. If you like, you can also arrange trips to Borobodur or to important temples. Packages are also offered for this. Or you can simply enjoy your stay and let the magic work its magic on you. And what should you call it when you carelessly leave a book open and when you return you find it closed again - but with an Amanjiwo bookmark in the right place. Magic or just perfect service?

The hotel is about 10 minutes drive and in February it was stiil closed to see the sun rise. If it is open perhaps a driver from Amanjiwo can take you.

There are 2 ways to get up there. Walking or driving. Both take the same amount of time. The hike is about 45 minutes, is moderate except for maybe 5 minutes of a bit of a steeper climb but not difficult. You can drive there and back which takes around 1 hour one way.
The best time is evening. The car from Amanjiwo will take you there just about 20-30 minutes before the temple closes for public; but they give you a sticker (sunset access) which allows you to stay there for about 1 hour after the temple is closed, this is where there weren't many people around.
There are more places to choose from in the Borobudur area.
