This is a gorgeous gorgeous hotel. It's located on a hill facing Borobudur and Sumbing volcano. The property is so beautiful and the villas are just breathtaking. They even have a tea place to watch sunrise that they will drive you to if you ask. It's like right next to Amanjiwo, just as beautiful, and at a faction of the price. The staff is so helpful, we got driver and car for excursions and they are all top notch. I can't say enough good things about this place. The only thing to mention is that the villas are built on a pretty steep hill, so if you have mobility issues, make sure they don't give you a villa toward the top of the hill. Also, the call to prayer will wake you up at insanely early hours. But it's like that everywhere and nothing you or the hotel can do. Just take it as your sunrise wake up call.

Awesome setting, high above the town with the Borobudur Temple visible off in the distance. The common area and bedrooms have traditional decor. The bedroom and bathroom are spacious. The bedroom includes modern amenities, such as multiple charging ports, a/c and a writing table. For added protection, the bed had mosquitoe netting that did not appear to be needed when we were there. The internet signal was strong throughout the property. There is no tv. The pool was clean and inviting. The facility provides transporation to nearby sites and can arrange transport throughout the region. The staff was warm and accommodating. Food was simple and delicious. They had a well stocked bar and offered a good selection of wine. Caution...the steps from reception to the rooms and pool are steep. This is not the best location for patrons with physical disabilities. On site they have a wonderful vista for sunrise and sunset viewing.

Isolated / lovely views / great staff. A lovely position on the hillside you are isolated so if your staying at the resort food will come from the restaurant. Prices are good and the staff are brilliant. The accommodation is looking a little worn, mosquito nets around the bed were damaged and some of the wooden panels in the bedroom area have moved creating gaps to the outside. AC works really well though. Electric kettle to 20 mins to boil which was a bit unusual!! Resort pool was good but only one sun screen shade and that was a bit old. Staff organised temple visits and were great A great place to chill out but could do with an upgrade considering the price of the accommodation.

Villa Borobudur was our second accommodation in Indonesia and it was the one we liked best. Since we arrived at the parking where our driver and guide left us because no car is allowed on the narrow and steep road to the entrance of the resort , I realised its beauty : Up the hill surrounded by a deep forest in front of the valley where Borobudur temple lies. The whole resort has an authentic Javanese style : we were in Borobudur suite which we found really charming : large, with a carved Javanese ceiling over the bed and a great attention to details. The bathroom was charming as well. The suite is on top of the hill completely surrounded by the lush jungle . The only sound was the one of the many birds . From our windows we could see the Borobudur temple : amazing! We loved the swimming pool facing the valley where the temple is. We were welcomed by a kind and lovely staff and were offered a very tasting ginger beer ! The sitting area and the bar were two “floors” down our suite and also from there the view was amazing. We dined at the restaurant in an open area always with the same lovely view of the valley and we tasted delicious Javanese food . Silence, relax , privacy and charm : this is what we were looking for and this is what villa Borobudur gave us . Anna and Francesco from Italy

We stayed in the Villa Kayangan at the very top of the Villa Borobudur hillside. The view was genuinely spectacular and the location was quite extraordinary. It was gorgeous waking up each morning to the prayers wafting across the valley, and seeing the temple in the distance. It was a special experience. However, as a regular resort traveler, we expected a good deal more for the price of over $930SGD per night in terms of Villa standard, especially in Indonesia, where value for money is very achievable. The villa is tired, and needs a solid review/clean. The bathrooms came with frogs, huntsman spiders and just outside was a hillside snake. The furniture needs a re-vamp including the soft-furnishings such as the mosquito nets, cushions etc. For example the pool umbrella at the villa was completely broken, and the ones we had substituted were mouldy. The reception/general area was also tired. Odd furnishings, strobe lighting surrounding wooden columns and mis-matched artworks, missed that high-end villa resort feel. The staff were very friendly, especially the drivers. We had to whatsapp our orders for breakfast/food etc, and that was a little challenging in terms of trying to book and liaise for day events etc. The food offerings were adequate - and breakfast was very well arranged. However, we did go out to other hotels to experience greater food variety and then realised perhaps the standard at our Villa did not compete with the other hotels/villas in the area on offer. All in all, I would recommend staying elsewhere in Borobudur. But if you are after a stunning view, and are not concerned about the Villa standard for price, then this locale may be for you.

We stayed there as family for 3 nights and must say that the resort has unbeatable view, very nice javanese architecture in a unique set up. Staff is very friendly and helpful, and can help organise any visit in the surroundings at reasonable price. Only downside really is the F&B which only has very local and basic options. Given the price of the rooms and location, we would expect higher standards when it comes to food, starting with breakfast.

What a magical place! Villa Borobudur offers some of the finest hospitality we’ve seen anywhere. We were given an upgraded suite for two days and all was perfection: Stunning view and surroundings, luxurious yet comfortable furnishings, incredibly caring and helpful staff, and wonderful food. I think we expected the place to be a little stuffy and formal from the pictures, yet it was so relaxed, even as staff made sure every need was met. The pool was delightfully refreshing, water in the shower was always hot. Any time we needed anything, a courteous member of the staff was waiting to be called upon and happy to oblige. The service felt effortless despite all the work that so clearly goes into making sure each aspect of a guest’s stay is anticipated. The Villa is close to Borobudur up in the mountains with a spectacular view. You can see the temple through the mist in the morning amidst the lush landscape in the surrounding valley. It was one of those experiences that will stay with us forever. There is truly nothing else like this place.

Located up on a steep hillside, 4kms for Borobudur Temple, this Villa is a great example of Javanese luxury and hospitality. My pre-booking communication in English was great with fast replies. They recommended a driver who picked us up at Semarang airport and drove us to the Villa. The roads are steep, so vehicle parking is at the base of the hill and a hotel shuttle will pick you up and take you 2 minutes by car to the lobby. We stayed in the 2 adjoining Borobudur Suites. Located just above the common living room, these suites have amazing views of the valley and Borobudur Temple. The rooms are large, with carved wood panels and full amenities like in room safe, hair dryer, strong AC and good WiFi. The bathroom is quite large with a huge walk in shower. These suits share the common pool, but it is never crowded. We did not experience many mosquitoes. Maybe it was the time of year. But the beds are covered by mosquito netting and insect repellent is provided in the room. Because of its location, there are not any restaurants within walking distance, but dining at the resort is possible. The food is good, however as previous posters have mentioned, it does take more time than usual and we did not have to pre-order our breakfast. Overall, we were very pleased with our stay. It is a special experience to be at such a charming Villa and I highly recommend Villa Borobudur.

The most awesome resort in Magelang, best view and best service from the staff, feeling like your own home. The resort is located in the village only 3 km from borobudur temple. The road is extremely steep, as you can only park your vehicle at the parking lot, and using their car to bring you to the villa. We are staying at first at Villa Diponegoro with amazing architecture inside, huge villa, and amazing view. However, the pool's water is cloudy after some treatment, so they upgraded us to Merbabu Villa with 3 rooms. And this villa even more amazing. The view is extraordinary, we can see the Borobudur temple very clear and the sunrise as well. The pool is very deep, so be careful with your children. The regulation is not strict, so you don't need to pay for extra pax. The food is tasty with low price. And the most calming and happiest are the really helpful staffs. They provide us with 2 private staffs that can help all of our needs, even to buy traditional food downtown. Maybe I have to say that this resort is much much better than Plataran and Aman Djiwo with comparable price or even slightly lower price. My suggestion is to choose Vila Merbabu or Villa Kayangan for best view. Villa Menoreh also offer a good view. But for guests who like indoor more, you chan choose Diponegoro Villa as it has the most amazing craftmenship for the architecture and also larger indoor area. Surely will come back again to this Villa with my whole family.
