Terrible place, creepy, not clean, bathroom is a nightmare. Luckily we only stayed a few hours as we got up early to see sunrise at the temple. The only good thing in this place is Johnny who is also a guide for Borobudur. THAT you should do ! He knows everything about the temple and symbolism. Talk with him and you will see the temple with another look! It is not just about selfies with the stupas :) No seriously the place is a no go unless of no other choice but give a call to Johnny (super guide) he is totally worth it !
The dirtiest place I had ever seen. I moved here because in Lotus II there was a problem with mice running on the roof. I just had to sleep few hours before visiting the temple at sunrise. The shabbiest, gloomiest, dirtiest place ever seen. People from the house sleep and do their business in the hall floor. They expected payment in advance and pretended not to know what a receipt was. Not suited for Italians. Just sleep here if you really are on a budget.
I think there's two different lotus guesthouses in Borobudur, and the one you should check out is LOTUS 2, just on the main road when you go to the temple. It has an amazing view over rice fields and volcanoes, and you can chill and have tea or coffee on the balcony anytime. The rooms are very big, and when you catch one of the upper rooms there's beautiful bathrooms with stone tubs and showers as well. The staff couldn't be more helpful, organising treks or scooter rentals for you. All at a cost for 200.000 IDR for a double room! But again, make sure it's LOTUS 2, the other one isn't much of a deal.
Just infront of the Borobudur Temple Archaeological site, in the midle of the rice coltivations, wit excellent view, spacy rooms and bathroom, wonderful aesthetics in decoration in balinese style. very friendly staff, full of things to see and explorate about javanese tradition, music and dance. Little bit expensive.
Did not stay here. Stayed right next door at nicer Cempaka Guest house. However, ate twice at Lotus Restaurant and loved the food and juices. Both Cempaka and Lotus are nearby to Borobudur, though you would still need a scooter ride to get to entrance for sunrise.
