This place is definitely worth putting on your to visit and stay list. Kasia, the owner is truly great and she left us stocked up for our three day visit. She covered every aspect to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and ideally located in the wonderful Monticchiello. It was definitely beyond our expectations.

Nearly four years ago I visited Monticchiello and stayed in an “apartment” for nine days and I fell in love with the village, its unsurpassed views of Val d’Orcia, and the people and food of Tuscany, so when I decided to take my husband on a trip to Italy I knew that we would have to stay at least one night in Monticchiello as we drove between Roma and Firenze.
I wasn’t certain where we would stay because we only had one night and I planned to eat (and drink wine) at my favorite Tuscan restaurant that then I found In Toscana Affittacamere and booked it using Expedia. Some weeks later I received a notification for Trip Advisor of a price reduction on Agoda and so I canceled my reservation on Expedia and booked the lesser price.
A day or two prior to arrival I received an email from the owner, Ronald, to set up a time to meet to check in (remember this is not a hotel but rather an apartment) so we set a time to meet in front of the guard gate.
Ronald was very friendly. We talked about our trip up to that point and of my previous visit to Monticchiello. His English was perfect and I could tell he was not from Italy and so I inquired and he explained that he and his wife has left the Netherlands a few years previously to fulfill a dream of living in Tuscany. He then showed us the apartment and the little things we needed to know such as how to run the heat and where to leave the key when we checked out, and then he left us to the place.
As I mentioned before I had stayed in the village before so my expectations were rather low. After all it is a medieval town and all buildings date back at least a century or more but when we entered the apartment I was surprised. To say it is a rather modern accommodation would be a stretch but compared to the dungeon I stayed in previously it was a remarkable upgrade and Ronald and his wife and not forgotten a single thing.
On the “dining” table was a welcoming bottle or red wine and two large apples, with an assortment of coffee options adjacent against a wall.
There is a small refrigerator that contained juice, yogurt, milk and a large bottle of water, and on top of the fridge there was a basket with an assortment of prepackaged morning pastries.
In the upper unit, which is the one we rented, there is a very large bed adjacent to the living area and then one in a bedroom. The couch also pulls out so in total the place would easily sleep six people. There is also an update bathroom.
And then there is the breathtaking view of the Val d’Orcia from the windows. There is no price tag you can put on the view. It is simply exquisite.
When I booked a place in Monticchiello four years earlier this apartment was the fantasy of what I wanted to rent and was very disappointed, and now all I can think about is returning to my little Tuscan town for an extended stay because I know there is a very well loved accommodation waiting for me. If the flight from Arizona wasn’t so long, I would return once a month.
Thank you, Ronald, for sharing this place with us, and with the world, even if it was only for one night. Your friendliness and charm was most welcome and your love of Tuscany shires through in all the details provided in the unit.
The price of this unit was a steal. It is easily worth double the price.
One dining suggestion....
This tiny little village is blessed with three world class restaurants and the obvious choice seems to be La Porta. While it has the advantage of being the first place you see upon entering the village and has a small outdoor patio overlooking Val d'Orcia, I find it a little overrated. Don't get me wrong, the food is very good, however, for a truly memorable meal go to La Taverna di Moranda. Run by husband and wife Masimo and Francesca, the food is absolutely sublime and her (Francesca's) charm will win you over.
La Tarverna di Moranda is one of the MAIN reasons I insisted we stop in Monticchiello on this trip. Unfortunately, Francesca was not working that evening.
Also.... stop in at La Guardila for a caffe or glass wine. Young owner Giacomo will take very good care of you and you can enjoy the view!!!!

This is my third review of this apartment and I don't believe I can overstate my affection for it.
I had stayed here twice prior to my March 2018 stay when it was under the first owner and couldn't believe it could get any better, but it has.
First let me state that working with new owner Kasia was a dream. She was very responsive and communicative prior to my arrival, and even when it appeared that I wouldn't be able to get the upstairs apartment, at the last minute quite literally, she switched things up to fulfill my every wish.
Upon entering the apartment I couldn't help but notice how she had softened up the colors which improved upon the place immensely - not that I had any complaints before. Gone are the red bedspreads and accents and in their place are more muted tans and beiges. Little did I realize what small changes could make such a dramatic difference.
What remained the same was the comfort and familiarity. After all, I do call Monticchiello (and this apartment) my Italian hometown.
I could go on forever about this place but instead I will just say.... I am envious of anyone who gets to stay here in my absence and I am happy to have met Kasia and hope to see her again in he next year!
WELL DONE!!!!

This apartment is beautiful, we stayed in the first floor room which had stunning views of rolling Tuscan hills. We arrived late on our first night (just after 21:30) which meant the restaurants had closed, Kasia however rang the restaurant and asked if they would keep the kitchen open for us to have some food after the long drive from Pisa - it wasn’t something she had to do but she went out of her way to help us and it was greatly appreciated. The next night she also suggested a fantastic bar in Pienza "Idillyum" which is cocktail bar down at Palazzo Piccolomini which we would highly recommmed for a relaxing evening out with abit more of a lively atmosphere than the sleepy town of Monticchiello. We would highly recommend this apartment for your stay in Tuscany, it’s a beautiful and a well maintained apartment with fantastic hosts.

A few weeks back I was fortunate enough to visit my own slice of heaven, Monticchiello, and stay again at Ron's wonderful upstairs apartment.
Just as with the first time everything was perfect.
He provides everything and more for a wonderful time in the area.
I highlight recommend this apartment to anyone needing a home base in Val d'Orcia.
I return for the beauty, the wonderful people and the excellent food of Taverna di Moranda.
I can't wait to return in March 2018.

Monticchiello it's a so nice village in the charming Toscana and the B&B it's one of the best place to enjoy it ! In a quiet street without cars, with a great view from the window upstairs... It was a great stay for us.
Thanks.

To say the least lovely we stayed two nights in this magical place a medieval village above our expectations, super cozy apartment, very clean very nice with views that ranged over the hills of the Val D'Orcia, very kind owner and very helpful to our every request having two small girls we found every good of God . the decision to dine outside the structure was canceled when we realized how nice it was to spend it quietly in this small reality all together

There is one room downstairs with 2 beds and two room upstairs with one bed each. I am not sure if you want to rent the whole house. If you want to rent a room, you can contact the owner of the house and see if you can get the room downstairs. Based on my experience, the owner of this house is extremely kind and very responsive....
Hi,
Thank you for your e-mail. So sorry for responding this late, but we've only just now received notice there was an e-mail.
We'd be happy to help you of course but based on the info we can see on Tripadvisor unfortunately we cannot determine which client you are. Would it be possible to sent me an e-mail through the booking site (Booking? Expedia?) you have used?
Thank you, kind regards, In Toscana Camere
