Detailed Reviews
This place really is just superb. The photos (while impressive) really don't do it justice-the pool, grounds and setting are just incredible and the accommodation itself is traditional in style, but excellent and INCREDIBLY clean and well presented. The breakfast is superb, varied and plentiful, and the location just fantastic, being 1 kilometre from Montichiello and very close to Pienza, Montepulciano, and pretty much all the highlights of Val D'Orcia.
But what really sets this place apart is the welcome of the family. Maura and her son Nicholas looked after us as if we were family and made us feel so at home. They showed our daughter their animals which she loved, gave advice, made reservations and there was no question we had that they couldn't answer helpfully and professionally. Some places you stay are slick and professional, but without soul. Some are very personable but a bot rough around the edges. But this family get the balance EXACTLY right-super friendly and genuine whilst always being completely professional.
I don't often write reviews, but this place really is just the BEST, so I felt I had to.
Thank you Maura and all the family.

The hospitality and environment here were the best part of our 2 weeks in Italy. We only stayed two nights but wish it had been more. Maura is an absolutely splendid hostess that went way out of her way to make us feel so welcome in her home. If you have a chance, do have dinner with her as her food was the best we had in Italy and some of us overstuffed ourselves with joyous delight. The breakfasts were amazing and Maura and her family make so many of the items served, it was just fabulous. The views are serene and so relaxing and their dog Gino was so much fun. If we ever travel to Italy again, I would choose to make Agriturismo Podere Santa Maria a home base for a week and do several day trips from there. What a delightful stay we had!

FAIRYTALE farmhouse in the wonderful Val D'Orcia! Relaxing stay in a beautiful and well-kept environment with a spectacular view!
Impeccable cleaning where the scent of fabric softener reigns! Huge breakfast with homemade cakes and fresh local products.
The friendliness, the hospitality, the cuisine, the care and attention in satisfying the needs of customers make this farmhouse the TOP!!!
A THANK YOU to Maura who, with her stories, transmitted to us the love for cooking, for the territory, for people and for life!
An Extraordinary Woman with an Extraordinary Heart made of small gestures but of great humility and a lot of passion for what she does! And Nicola who resounded with "so much stuff" at each of his cakes!!!
Thanks to the legendary super crazy cuddly dog Gino who made our days so much fun with Zoe!!!
We'll be back soon! Thank you all!!!!

This beautiful agriturismo was one of the best places we stayed in our whole 5-week trip to Italy. It is right in the middle of the breathtaking Val d'Orcia, which in May was carpeted with velvety green fields, touched with a wash of yellow here and there. The charming Podere Santa Maria is nested in the valley, set apart from the villages but easy to find. Each room has its own door to the outside, with a table and chairs in front. The rooms are rustic, clean, and charming. The pool a few steps away, in an idyllic setting. The hostess, Maura, is a lovely person and a terrific cook. Her generous breakfasts full of her own baked goods and homemade yogurt were wonderful. We only wish we had stayed long enough to order one of her dinners. (We bought her cookbook.) We hope to return someday and stay longer.

It was all perfect. A small fine accommodation, clean, absolutely quiet, fantastic views of Montechiello, Pienza and the countryside as in the picture book. Unfortunately, there is basically only breakfast and the restaurants for a cozy dinner are a little further away, so you tend not to visit them on foot. Dinner with the family in Santa Maria was excellent, but unfortunately only once during our stay. Nevertheless, we can recommend this accommodation.

Right in the heart of Val d’Orcia, perfect location for exploring the hilltop towns.
Beautiful grounds with a pool and Maura our hostess was so welcoming. Our room had a small kitchenette and separate bedroom. Lots of room for 2 people. Breakfasts were supplied all from the farm, great food.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying with Maura and her family for four nights in October. Maura is a wonderful hostess and she has a very supportive family. We stayed in the apartment, La Loggia. Rooms were clean, tastefully decorated, and very comfortable. Breakfast was included and food and presentation were great. We had the option to have dinner with Maura and her family each night. After the first night we booked dinner every night. She is an awesome cook! (Chef). This is of course a working farm; they were picking their olives when we were there. The views were excellent in all directions. Monticchiello and Pienza both can be seen in the distance. Maura gave us great tips on where to buy local wine, prosciutto , and pecorino cheese. This family makes your stay a great one!

I highly HIGHLY recommend staying at this agriturismo. Maura and Virno are excellent hosts. If you get a chance to try her cooking, definitely do it. We had a really delicious Italian meal and enjoyed walking around the grounds of the farm. The pool is nice in the Tuscan heat and the uphill walk to Monticchiello allowed us to enjoy our dinner at La Porta without caring about calories :) And what a view when you look out at the countryside from the vantage point of the town!
I cannot say enough good things about this place!

We are a family of 4 and stayed here for 5 nights and it was the best part of our trip to Italy. First as all the reviews say, the owners are fantastic. They are eager to make your stay there very happy and Maura’s cooking is wonderful. We had one room for the older kids and a separate room for us. The rooms were sparkling clean and just perfect. The pool is just steps away. No matter what photos you take of the beautiful scenery from this Agriturismo, they never live up to the beauty of the actual landscapes. It is truly lovely. The two towns nearby are just wonderful. Visitors come back and back to this wonderful Agriturismo. We met one couple who have been back several times. Because our stay in Italy was fairly long, with Maura’s help, we found a laundry in Nearby Piensa and then used Maura’s clothesline to dry everything. Lastly, I was surprised at the lovely breezes we had here. While all of Italy was very hot, we had breezes here to help keep us cool. One thing that is not mentioned is that there is a very nice and fairly large common room where we made and ate our lunch. So we were able to go to the local Coop in Piensa and bring back lunch items for the next day. All kept cool in the frig. until ready to be used. Many restaurants are also around for dinner etc.
In our view, look no further...this is a very special place to stay!

This is an outstanding place to stay and one of the most wonderful travel experiences we’ve ever had. What makes this place unique is the combination of features you would expect in a luxury hotel, but in a relaxed setting that feels like home. And all in one of the most picturesque valleys of Tuscany.
As other reviewers have said, the food is fantastic. Maura prepares a delicious dinner each evening, as if a world-class restaurant has been transported into a family kitchen. At our request she prepared a vegetarian meal each of the four nights we visited, using a creative variety of locally-grown ingredients.
Just as important, each of the four members of our family (two parents and two older teen children) enjoyed the meals, even though we do not usually agree on restaurants. They were the type of meals that appeal to a wide variety of tastes.
The grounds around the house are well-kept, with a pleasant grass lawn, large and convenient gravel parking area, and the farm just a short distance away. We visited in mid-winter, so we didn’t enjoy the pool or the outdoor dining area under a vine-covered pergola, but we wished we could have. At night there was absolute silence and a darkness that revealed the stars.
The bedrooms and bathrooms are very nice, with a level of comfort that you would expect at a hotel. Next to the bedrooms is a large sitting or gathering area with a sofa and table that is very convenient when leaving in the morning and returning in the evening.
