We arrived here after a full day walking, unsure whether we had made it to the right place and arrived at this gorgeous lodge only to be told we had to sleep in the staff quarters down the road. It was quite frankly heart breaking but obviously we knew that we hadn't paid the elaborate prices so excepted it. We... More

We stayed here as part of the Abel Tasman Kayaks 3 day tiki tour (budget option). We were put into the 'Dorm', which was OK but there were other people on the same tour who got what looked like private rooms for the same price so that was a bit disappointing but not the Lodge's fault. Facilities were fine, nice... More

We stayed one night in the two older 4-bunk rooms attached to the main block while walking the Abel Tasman track. It suited us well, with the pizzeria open for dinner, and carrying our own breakfasts. The kitchen and the lounge were rough, as noted in other reviews, but the shower/bathrooms were fine. The option of the facilities of the... More

This hostel was so dissapointing. It belongs to awaroa lodge which is completely the opposite. well you cannot compare them because one is a budget backpackers and the other one a hotel. But because they have the lodge there they dont care at all about the backpackers housing. We stayed in a private room which was ok. But the mattress... More

Spent our last night of an otherwise perfect road trip around the south island at the Awaroa Backpacker's Lodge. It was the most expensive backpacker's (NZ$125 for a double room) we stayed in on this month long trip and surprisingly, the dirtiest as well. The common lounge had a funky smell and I initially thought perhaps there were heaps of... More

What a shame, this place screams opportunity but the owners don't seem to care. It may be linked with Awaroa Lodge but they are miles apart! The day we arrived it was raining and as we were tramping we were obviously wet, Barry (a co-manager/owner of both businesses) was very welcoming. He gave us our key and directions to our... More

First of all, ABBA Lodge is simply a basic backpacker standard Lodge. A convenient stopover in the wonderful Awaroa Bay within the Park and only priced $14 more than the local DOC hut.. The facilities available at ABBA are superior to those at DOC hut and these are: Electricity, Hot Showers, normal toilet, large lounge, with internet, TV and phone,... More
